Eden Beach Resort and Spa (SHA Plus+)
Khaolak Beach,Khao Lak - View on map
"- Beautiful, photogenic hotel - Good value for money - But unprofessional services We booked 3 rooms with separate bookings. We asked whether the hotel has connecting rooms. The staff said No. We were given 2 rooms next to one another and 1 room in another building, not far though. As we entered one of the rooms we were given, we noticed a door supposed to be a connecting. We called front desk and asked. They said it was a storage room not a connecting door. We found out later that it’s actually a connecting room and it was vacant. The hotel let us check-out 1 hr. late but key cards were disabled even before 12:00 pm. Hope there'll be an improvement. Khaolak is a nice place to revisit."

Kalima Resort and Villas Khao Lak (SHA Plus+)

"Stayed here only for 1D/1N, but it was incredible. If we ever come back to Khao Lak, we are definitely staying here. Hotel is absolutely beautiful and so clean. Seems very very new, but not so new that things are still being worked out. Only complaint is that there aren’t elevators that I know of. And there are lots of steps and random plateaus everywhere...so it’s not wheelchair friendly, OR heavy luggage friendly. Literally we carried our luggage up and down flights of stairs. Restaurant by the beach was very pretty, especially the sparkly pool at night. But the food was mediocre. Steaks aren’t the same, so just don’t expect that. Even the Thai food felt “modified” for foreign tastes. Seemed like they had good things to do everywhere for everyone: bikes, taxis to market, kayaking, yoga, crafts for kids, spa, etc. We really wanted to take advantage of the spa, but just didn’t have enough time. The room was phenomenal. Bed was high and super comfy. Room was super roomy and plenty of accommodations for whatever you could need. Bathtub was awesome. Shower was awesome. Toilet was, a toilet. Loved the ambiance of everything about the hotel and in the rooms. The breakfast was also super cool. Big international buffet. If I could have one other suggestion for the hotel, it’d be that the light switches were all messed up. You flicked them UP to turn them off. And flicked them DOWN to turn it on. Super illogical. Not sure if that’s just our room, but worth looking into. "

Le Meridien Khao Lak Resort & Spa SHA Plus +
Bangsak Beach,Khao Lak - View on map
"My family and I just had a weekend break at Le Méridien Khao Lak Resort & Spa, at first we were very frustrated because we couldn’t find the entrance of the hotel due to the road instruction and hotel hasn’t have the sign of the hotel yet (they just renovated 4 months ago). However when we arrived, we got warm welcome from the staffs’ especially Alice and Tony, they helped us upgraded the room to the Villa and arranged everything for us to the most comfort. My parents told me that this is the best hotel that they ever stayed. If you will have a weekend break or holiday, we would recommend Le Méridien Khao Lak Resort & Spa because everything’s are great (staffs, foods, facilities and atmosphere). "

Fanari Khaolak Resort - Courtyard Zone
Bang Niang Beach,Khao Lak - View on map
"We stayed for 9 nights, our room was very spacious and clean. You can tell the hotel has been revamped recently, but they put a lot of effort in it. Our room was in the main building, facing the pool and featuring a large balcony with additional racks to hang wet clothes and towels (pool/beach towels were provided). Breakfast was simple, but enough and tasty (mix of continental and local thai/asian food). The hotel is located near the beach (second row), and within easy reach of restaurants, bars, massage parlors, a pharmacy and a doctor. There's a local market 3 days a week, and local taxis are readily available near the hotel with the destination prices clearly written on a board. If you want a pre-organized tour to visit any island or national park or go elephant riding, you can chose from a multitude of providers (since there are mostly German couples in Khao Lak most tours can optionally be booked with a German speaking guide). If want to explore on your own there are plenty of places to rent scooters from. If taking a taxi from Phuket Airport I suggest to pre-book one online (one-way ~1,200THB, max 3 ppl), it proved easier and way cheaper than trying to get one upon arrival."

Seaview Resort Khao Lak (SHA Extra Plus)
Nang Tong Beach,Khao Lak - View on map
"We took a normal double room and we got upgraded to a pool villa and it was so nice! The room was full of little details and it was just awesome to have a pool only for us... Altough jacuzzi in the pool was "broken" (or they were just too lazy to turned it on). The bathroom is huge, full of light, there is a bath and two showers: an indoor and an outdoor one, which is in a private garden with very tall walls around. We went there during low season so we could't enjoy most of the activities provided by the resort, like the pool bar, the activities in the gym, etc, but we have to say the the resort is really stunning. You can park in the resort carpark and never move the car again. The resort start from the beach and reach the main road: from our villa it was closer to walk to the main road than to walk to the car park! When we checked in and out the staff came to pick us up with a golf cart so we didn't have to walk far with the luggage. As every resort in Thailand, the food is nice but the reastaurant is really overpriced (like everything in Khao Lak) so it's better to avoid it and eat outside. There are a dozen restaurants just outside the hotel, on the main road, much cheaper."

The Sands Khao Lak by Katathani Resort (SHA Plus+)
Nang Tong Beach,Khao Lak - View on map
"Location of Khao Lak is a bit out of the way - it is about 100 kms to the north (on the mainland) from Phuket Airport. Currently taxi operators charge around 1600 baht to get you to Khao Lak. Return trip is 2000 baht ex the hotel. The resort itself is at the end of the "strip" of shops/restaurants etc. that make up the township of Khao Lak, and is well signposted. We hired a car at the Phuket airport which was just the thing for our personal circumstances. Khao Lak was fairly easy to get to once we put on Google Maps, and road was very good (excellent). Plenty of parking is available at the hotel for hire cars etc. Check in was easy and quick, before a drive in their cart to our room with our luggage (and us). We were very pleased with our room, which was a Junior Suite with access to pool, lovely way to relax on the deck of the pool/room. Room is very airy and light and very clean and there was always complimentary water supplied - staff do a great job here, although one negative was that the couch in the room was not all that comfortable - it is also very low to the ground. Bed and pillow were really comfortable and suited us. The grounds are huge, and very well maintained, couldn't fault anything here at all. Plenty of activities for guests to do both inside and outside. There are a few areas of children, each one seems to cater for a different age group - and seem to be always staffed. There is a separate "joy" pool for children, which has slippery slide into the pool etc. The gym is one of the best equipped gyms I have ever come across in any of the hotels we have stayed in throughout Asia. It seems to have multiples of just about anything you would find in any working gym. At the end of the property is the beach area. The hotel has built a retaining wall fro the beach to the grassed area of the property. Many guests enjoy the walk along the beach when the tide is out. Many relaxing outdoor beds are provided for guests also all along the wall/bea"

Ramada Resort by Wyndham Khao Lak (SHA Extra Plus)
Bang Niang Beach,Khao Lak - View on map
"If you are looking for a great place in southern Thailand on the beach, with lots of shopping and dining within walking distance, great service and free internet in your room, your search is over. The Ramada in Khao Lak is definately a paradise in paradise. We stayed four days and wish it had been longer. Guest services are directed masterfully by Phoy who is fluent in five and a half languages, including english and german. He has a passion for service and teaching language so accordingly, most of the staff are very good at both and very attentive. The morning brunch buffet included in your room rate is exceptional. Fine dining at Sassi's restaurant is wonderful, but just a little expensive for Thailand. (One note, it was the only place in Thailand we had five meals served to us at the same time instead of one person being done eating before the last meal was served.) Great food is available on the beach within 50 meters of the resort. Also on the beach are one hour massages for 300 bhat that were outstanding. Lots of shopping and restaurants are available in walking distance. Not far from the resort is the The Green Pepper, a great restauant run by a couple of Swedish guys. It is close and wonderful. The resort's infinity pool just off the beach is large, warm and has a great swim up bar. The resort has lot's of comfortable beach chairs with umbrellas. The beach is wide and staff start a volleyball game every night about 5:00 p.m. The game is fun and you can play regardless of skill level. You can also book many activities at the resort. (Tip, you can find the same trips in town, cheaper if you search a little.) The rooms are very nice with beds more comfortable than we found in Bangkok or Chiang Mai. If we ever return to Thailand, we will definately come back to the Ramada. Before booking, I read posts complaining about the ocean view and a Thai couple that received poor service. It's true many of the rooms face the courtyard and pool rather than "

"I love everything except the GM. We met him at breakfast but he not event greeting us or checking the feedback. All staffs are very polite and friendly. The breakfast Should not provide a big portion of pastry, fried rice, or ABF. Because we did not realize that the breakfast we order was so big portion. "

Apsara Beachfront Resort & Villa (SHA Plus+)
Pakarang,Khao Lak - View on map
"I stayed at Apsaras toward the end of the quiet season and where other resorts close their beach bars, restaurants etc, Apsaras were still fully open. The real winner with this resort is the staff. They are so friendly and always on hand to help. The rooms are clean and comfortable. The restaurants have a good selection of food from traditional Thai to Western dishes. The menu's were also very well priced. The prices happily compared to the local restaurants in Khao Lak but the food was of a far better quality. If your looking for a relaxing resort on the West coast of Thailand then this is your place. I will return for sure."

Traveler impressions of Khao Lak

More about Khao Lak

The stunning Phang Nga province of southern Thailand is one of the country’s most attractive destinations. The resort town of Khao Lak is located here, boasting some of the most beautiful beaches. This area was heavily affected by the 2004 tsunami, but today, it is completely redeveloped with a full range of resorts.

A city of natural splendor, Khao Lak is mainly national parkland with lush forests and beaches on the Andaman Sea. Many of the resorts here cater to families or those looking for a peaceful and natural getaway. Much less developed than Phuket, even the most popular beaches here can seem deserted, and it is missing the exotic nightlight and its associated attractions.

Khao Lak’s national parks provide most of the attractions in the region. Khao Sok National park offers rafting and trekking on foot or elephant. Hiking trails close to the beach can be explored at Khao Lak-Lam Ru National Park. Within a short drive of the region, Lampi Waterfall and Chong Fah Waterfall offer up blissful retreats into nature.

Khao Lak is easiest to arrive at via plane to Phuket International Airport – the closer alternative – or Krabi.
