Knoxville (TN)

The third largest city in Tennessee and the site of the 192 World’s Fair, Knoxville is nestled about an hour from the Great Smokey Mountains National Park. Many cultural figures such as singer Dolly Parton, author Cormac McCarthy, and filmmaker Quentin Tarantino were either born here or call it home. Knoxville is also home to the University of Tennessee as well as the Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame. Arrival is facilitated by the McGhee Tyson Airport.

Knoxville has some wonderful areas to explore and plenty of sports entertainment. The historic Market Square found downtown offers some pieces of history as well as dining, retail, and special events. The Old City is the chief nightlife spot and boasts interesting architecture. The main drag of the downtown area is known as Gay Street and includes retail, dining, and a movie theater. Sites that are a throwback to the World’s Fair include World’s Fair Park and the Sunsphere monument. You can catch a game of basketball, football, rugby, baseball, or hockey from one of the city or university teams, or you can have your own adventure hiking the Smokey Mountains or fishing in the Tennessee River.
