Baan Haad Ngam Boutique Resort & Villa (SHA Plus+)
Chaweng,Koh Samui - View on map
"Bann Haad Ngam is the first place we stay in Koh Samui. This boutique is a little bit smaller than other big resort around Chaweng beach. And the infinity pool is not big either. But you can find the staff and facility is very special and adorable during your stay. For example, i didn't mention about my birthday, but the staff come to find me with a birthday cake and sing a lovely birthday song for me. This really touched. And although there is no beach in Baan Haad Ngam, but that place is the best area to swim in Koh Samui because the wave is calm there. Other place during our stay almost can't swim due to the high wave. And it's cheap to rent a motorbike from Baan Haad Ngam, they even let us extend our renting time without charging any extra fee. "

Anantara Lawana Koh Samui Resort (SHA Extra Plus)
Chaweng,Koh Samui - View on map
"this place is a total high-roller mecca. we've stayed at a few other places for a similar price in koh samui, and this place takes them all down. no competition. we stayed at the slightly more expensive pool-access villas, and man... waking up... opening the big sliding doors- seeing a massive private pool (shared only by 5 other villas around it)... taking the steps into the massive pool... or lounging on the luxurious private deck connecting your villa to the pool... seriously, this place is like something from a movie. i've stayed at many world-class hotels all over the world, and this was by far one of the finest. if you can afford this place, you won't walk away sore. sometimes... some things are truly worth the premium price. and this place qualifies. the rest of the hotel (pools, beach, etc)... all top tier. as good as it gets. but back to your own room... seriously, it's so serene, elegant, and classy... you won't want to spend a minute away from it. by far the best place i've stayed at in koh samui, and i've spent many months here now, trying one resort/hotel after another."

Banyan Tree Samui (SHA Plus+)
Lamai,Koh Samui - View on map
"i wanted to take my girlfriend on a holiday that would take her breath away. although i did keep the hotel a surprise (and may have even played it down on the way there!) the entire experience upon arrival; the location, hotel grounds, service, private beach/bay, and finally the awe inspiring villa itself ended up bringing her to tears of joy and gratitude - mission accomplished! you'll see why she had this reaction when you get there. value is everything to me. whatever i pay, if it's a little or a lot, i expect to get what i paid for. if it is a little, i expect little and i am happy with anything extra. if i pay more though, my expectations grow. i wanted to avoid all of the "fakes" that pretend to be 5 star, but was at first nervous about paying my way out of the nerves associated with poor bank account usually doesn't permit me to do so. having been to banyan tree bangkok, and now banyan tree koh samui.... i don't regret a thing. pros: everything. might sound over the top.. but it is everything you see in all of the pictures and more. we were in a villa that was almost at the top of the mountain and had uninterrupted views of the southern coast of koh samui. it was completely private (it was clearly designed to be this way), and very peaceful. every whim had been thought of and provided. the grounds are huge and you can get complimentary buggy rides wherever you need to go (breakfast, private beach, lobby etc). our host (butler?) was very helpful, and all staff speak english very well. hammock, 2 different sets of sun beds on either side of the villa, 3 separate divisions in the villa (lounge area, bedroom, and bathroom). fresh fruit every day. extensive menu for both in room or restaurant dining. "activities" every day!!! yoga at sunrise/sunset, snorkelling, kayaking etc etc... all complimentary!!! the breakfast was typical of banyan tree, completely decadent and wide ranging. everything you could want at an extremely high standard"

Impiana Resort Chaweng Noi Koh Samui (SHA Plus+)

"We traveled to Koh Samui to celebrate our wedding with our closest family. We booked Impianas wedding package and had all correspondence over email. We arrived four days prior to the wedding day and had a few meetings with Impiana about wedding details. The staff at Impiana is amazing and was way over our expectations. We have never ever felt so welcomed and would really recommend others to celebrate the wedding at Impiana resort. This resort is located on a clean and beautiful beach. The staff is so friendly and accommodating and the rooms are clean and nice. The restaurant serves delicious food and the breakfast has many choices to choose from. We loved it and would highly recommend staying here if you are looking for a place in Koh Samui. Saemyi and Morten"

Tango Luxe Samui Beach Villa (SHA Plus+)
Choengmon,Koh Samui - View on map
"Meals were good, wine the most expensive we experienced in Koh Samui 400 BHT a glass of red.when complained they said its because of taxes. But the tax was on top of the price... I bought lots of great red wine in a shop for 850bht for 4 Ltr. I know that duty has dropped a lot on wines in Koh Samui. Other restaurants also have to pay taxes. Breakfast in the villa was ok, but would prefer a proper restaurant setting. No ventilation in bathroom nor air conditioning either. Bedsite lamps can only switch off on one site, not good. Staff were nice, but would not stay again. "

"my best friend and i came here not expecting much, as i mistakenly booked this hotel. we had a full's day travelling just to get to koh samui and we were very hungry, tired, hot and in need of a shower! when we finally arrived at the front the porter kindly took our luggage to the reception. shortly after we spoke to reception regarding our room we were brought a chilled face towel and iced tea! it was perfect and what we needed at our state. we recieved a free upgrade to the bungalow suite and one of the reception ladies took us to our room and showed us general directions around the resort. staff we're always extremely friendly, can understand and speak english, there are two pools both very nice, buffet breakfast was great with a variety of foods. location is great as well no complaints with noise, smell etc. this place is a tad pricey but koh samui in general is more expensive than phuket. our bungalow is small but cosy and clean, my friend and i like clean toilets and can say chaweng beach resort ticked the box. overall a great place if you want to relax inside your bungalow or outside on the beach or by the pool. we spent a lot of time in our bungalow and on the porch of our bungalow as we travelled during summer so it was extremely hot. Santiburi Koh Samui (SHA Extra Plus)
Mae Nam,Koh Samui - View on map
"We have stayed at all the 5 Star resort on Koh Samui and this is one of the best by far. The resort is older but extremely well kept and the staff, some have been there for many years are excellent. The swimming pool is huge and there is a very nice kids pool. The bungalow/villa style accommodation is spacious and very comfortable and has everything you need. The breakfast is excellent and there is a good selection to keep just about everyone happy. Maenam beach is one of the good ones. It's North facing which means it face Koh Phangan which is nice to look over at. It's one of the few beaches on Samui you can run down the sand and dive into the water without hitting coral or rocks. This is a very large piece of flat land and great for kids of all ages. The gym is good, open from 6.00 am which is handy. It has everything you need for a workout, there are two tennis courts, one grass. My only gripe is the cost of the food. This is an expensive place to eat in. The beach cafe and the restaurants are all expensive. We live on Samui and eat everywhere and Santaburi although we love it, the food is definitely overpriced. Don't get me wrong the quality is excellent but it is pricey by ANY standards, especially 5 star Thai. We did eat in a few times but there are so many good places close by we recommend you eat elsewhere."

Weekender Resort

"The hotel was so great. We stayed there for 4 nights and wished we had booked for longer. The staff were so friendly and helpful. We got engaged while in Koh Samui and had a awesome romantic set beach side dinner at the hotel, while our room was done up with candles and rose petals. It is right on the beach, with the outside tables of the restaurant looking onto the beach. The pool is stunning and also overlooks the beach. (Lamai has an amazing beach). If you are wanting more livelier pubs, etc, they are all with in walking distance! They were renovating the 'standard room' section, but wasn't a hassle while we were staying there. Will definately go back!"

The Sea Koh Samui Beachfront Resort & Spa (SHA Plus+)
Bang Por,Koh Samui - View on map
"My daughter and I really enjoyed our stay at The Sea. We were unlucky to be in Koh Samui when there was a general power failure for 3 days. The Sea however provided several complimentary services to accommodate us. The location is ideal for quiet time on the beach and there are several local restaurants within easy walking distance (either on the beach or the road outside)if you want to sample other Thai food. For the sights or night life you do need transport as The Sea is quite far from the busy centres and while we hired a car the hotel does provide a shuttle service. The staff are very friendly and spoke good English. I wish to compliment the front desk who were very helpful when my luggage had failed to arrive from Bangkok."

More about Koh Samui

Koh Samui is located in the Gulf of Thailand just south of Koh Phang Ngan. Being one of the largest islands in the country, Samui is a favorite island getaway for tourists as well as locals because of its beautiful beaches and relaxed island atmosphere. Samui is served by Samui International Airport which is located in the north near the beaches of Bo Phut and Chaweng.

Chaweng is Samui's most popular beach, and resorts in the area have direct access to the shoreline and the island's exciting night scene.

A 10-minute drive to the south is Lamai beach, which features hotels and resorts that are geared more toward rest and relaxation instead of nightlife. However, those looking for an exciting evening can head to the famous Lamai Walking Street and take in the sights and sounds of Samui nightlife. There is a full range of hotels on Lamai Beach so travelers will find anything from backpacker hostels to luxury villas.

On the northern coast of the island is Bo Phut, which is far less developed than the other beaches and therefore offers a little more seclusion. Ang Thong Marine National Park is also a popular destination among visitors to this island, especially those on a family vacation. Koh Samui is a favorite among vacationers because it offers a great balance between lazy days spent relaxing on the beach and exciting nightlife.
