Where to stay in Kota Kinabalu
Kota Kinabalu hotels & accommodations

The Pacific Sutera (silk) is probably the best Resort hotel in Kota Kinabalu. What they dont tell you in the website is that you can also enjoy the pool areas of the MAGELLAN And their members only "marina" (great for the kids!). THe Marina is the only pool area that has the slides, so if you plan to stay here at the PAcific, walk around the boardwalk - its good excerc...

the location of magellan sutera is very good, only 3mins drive to the city centre and easy to look for local food. the room is classic, clean and the swimming pool is also an attraction of the hotel. the most amazing part is the breakfast, there're so many choices of food and drinks (including italy coffee) for us. well, the service, environment, cleaniness, facilities, food a...

I was speaking at a conference in Kota Kinabalu, and stayed at the Hilton Kota Kinabalu while I was there. The hotel was great in all respects. The food was awesome, the room size was very good, the location was excellent and the reception staff were pleasant. I'd definitely stay at the Hilton Kota Kinabalu again.

Spent a week in the spa suite apartments for the family and we absolutely enjoyed ourselves. The location was ideal for those seeking to get away from the busy city, while still remain close to amenities. We rented a car at affordable rates from a local car rental company, and used a mobile app called WAZE to get around - driving around was easy since the app had the...

It seems a little bit pricey for the average traveler but Kota Kinabalu is more expensive than Peninsular Malaysia in general and it costs far less than Meridien. But if you have a bit to spare, it's well worth it for the size of the room, the amenities and the location is fantastic. Lots of food options within in walking distance - if you need to get to a mall Centrep...

I am very satisfied with their service and facilities.. With the room rate agoda gave us, I was expecting nexus resort is just another ordinary beach front resort. Hey, Nexus did disppoint us. It is far more than just a beach front resort. They have a lot to offer. They have 5 restaurants in their resort, a spa equipped and designed to make you feel more relaxed and ...

The hotel/resort is a very very beautiful place... very quiet and tranquil.. The only drawback was that the resort is quit far from the main city.. Food is good especially the one where we dine at "TEPI LAUT".. The room is spacious and I really appreciate the mini pool by the balcony.. Staffs are helpful and very attentive.. If it weren't for the distance between the m...

I can’t describe how much i loved this place. We stayed in ocean view room which was best in my entire journey in Kota Kinabalu. The veiw from the balcony was astonishing. You can directly jump into the sea from the balcony. You can borrow snorkeling tools and kayak at the reception for free. Also hotel offered free boat service from Jesselton point to the hotel at fix...

Very good value for money. Clean, good facilities and fit out is modern and functional. Would recommend to anyone as either business or holiday hotel. Facilities are just as good as some of the more expensive 'Brand' hotels in Kota Kinabalu but at a significantly lower cost.

Hotel Grandis has upgrade my stay to an Executive Suite with two floors and lovely ocean view, thanks! The hotel is pretty modern comparing with other hotels in Kota Kinabalu. Nice location with a large mall just next door with plenty of food options, also within walking distance to the waterfront and town centre.

Really nice luxury hotel in walking distance to near the waterfront and nightlife. Level 14 has a nearly opened rooftop sky bar which would be probably the best location in Kota Kinabalu. There is also a special private club lounge on level 14 which is worth the daily upgrade if you take advantage of the amazing breakfast, lunch and dinner buffers and drinks. The hotel...

I've been staying at the Dreamtel Kota Kinabalu for the past 1 and 1/2years. It's my go to hotel in Kota Kinabalu and I return every month. Staff performance is excellent, they polite and friendly. They have recently upgraded their WIFI so it's much better now. Breakfast has a good range of breads, asian rice or noodles, egg station, fruits and juices. Hotel cleanlines...

It is located in Gaya street, so that should not be a problem to travel around the city center on foot. Do take note that you will need the local parking coupon if you wish to park your car in front of the hotel. Despite the small space of toilet and shower room, the room is actually quite spacious and comfy. Overall, this is a satisfied stay in a new international sta...

Our first time here. The resort is clean and spacious and I never expect to see such a nice and clean beach around Kota Kinabalu town area. We never prepared food and there is no restaurant nearby so we drove out to buy dinner and egg and bread for next day breakfast as there is kitchen fully equipped with kitchenware. There are security patroling at night. It is a ...

We loved and enjoyed our stay in The Klagan @ Riverson Hotel. The room was spacious and everything were super clean! The kitchenette were complete with everything you may need. The location is the best asset of the hotel. It's a very quiet and safe place yet just steps away from restaurants and cafes and the biggest shopping centre Imago. I want to stay there again ne...

This must be one of the best hotels in Kota Kinabalu! It is very near Suria Mall. The rooms are very clean and very spacious. Good for travelling families! It is a completely smoke free hotel. I love their water bottles! They are made of glass. They do away with wasteful and environmentally hazardous plastic bottles. I will definitely come back here when I next visit K...

Cititel Express Kota Kinabalu Hotel is in the middle of town, easy access to almost every where. The hotel room is clean, although the room size is a bit small, but it has all the basis facilities. There are many food stores around the hotel, recommended for traveler who looking for budget and clean hotel in Kota Kinabalu.

For first time visitor, the hotel entrance is not placed facing the main road. But the location is very close to Pasar Kraftangan, Pasar Filipina and Pasar Malam Sinsuran. I checked in 2 hours earlier but was grateful because the hotel did not request for additional charge. No cafe in the hotel. The interior design in the room is very nice and pleasant. From this...

Highly recommended for others who plans to visit kota kinabalu for any purpose!

this hotel is much better than another hotel i stayed with almost the same price. the hotel is conveniently located near some shopping malls ,travel agencies, convenient stores and some overnight food stores are right round the corner. this is a location even better than those at 'city centre' around the night market because the area of best western is cleaner and wi...

This hotel is one of the best location you can stay in Kota Kinabalu town. It is located in the heart of the town and at the most happening Gaya street with walking distance to famous food, tourist spot and all the amenities around it. The best part is the most happening Sunday market is right in front of the hotel entrance and around it making it so convenient. Love i...

Stayed in Mercure Hotel during my recent trip to Kota Kinabalu and had a great experience. The hotel is new and my assigned room has a fantastic view of Mt Kinabalu. I loved waking up on the morning and be greeted by the beautiful sight of the mountains amongst the fogs. The hotel staff is very helpful. I approached the front desk staff to assist in the rental of a c...

We as a family went to Kota Kinabalu. The hotel is not bad. It has a big room. So, enough for me and my family. The hotel staffs are very friendly and helpful. We are not really familiar with this area and the staffs showed us the direction. Food surrounding this area is not bad. There are quite a number of local food stalls. I would recommend this hotel to my friends ...

My family and I have been staying at this hotel almost everytime when we're in Kota Kinabalu. Apart from it being less than a minute away from eateries and mini markets, the hotel is well maintained. We've always had clean rooms, bathrooms, towels and comfortable beds.
Cheap places to stay in Kota Kinabalu

Top 3 Things I enjoyed the most at my stay: 1. The location is an excellent spot to everything. Everything is "walkable" from the place. You can go to the Suriah Sabah Mall for some shopping, grocery shopping at KK Plaza, Adventure at Jesselton Point, or take a bus at the Padang Merdeka. It is the center of all the city tour you need to do when going to Kota Kinabalu...

Can't beat The Jesselton Cabin hostel in Kota Kinabalu, extremely good value for money, great location, very clean, lovely free breakfast and the staff are incredibly welcoming and helpful with anything you require! I highly recommend staying here and I will definitely stay stay there again if I return to the area!

My friend and I stayed here on our way in to diving and trekking round Sabah, Borneo. We loved it so much we decided to stay here on our way back out of Kota Kinabalu! It's a hostel so the rooms are simple and not decorated much, but what we loved so much about this place was everything was so clean! The rooms, the beds, the common room, the bathrooms and showers!! ...

You've made us feel at home here in SKYPOD! It wouldn't be so much fun without your great help. Thank you for taking care of us throughout our stays here in Kota Kinabalu. I initially booked for a service apartment in Likas area but cancelled it for Hood Borneo instead. I took the private room which ia good for 2 people (but still big enough for 2) with a huge restroom as well. Conveniently located at heart of the city (Jalan Pantai) just parallel to Jalan Gaya. Just a few meters away from the bus stop for buses coming from KK. Hotel st...

This is one of the best hostels I've stayed in three months backpacking through South East Asia. The bed is comfortable, and they provide curtains which gives you more privacy. The staff is really kind and they give you a real breakfast: Milk, cereals, juice, cake, pancake, peanut butter, jam, noodles, even sausages! And the shower was even better than mine at home!...

For a backpacker hotel, Sakot is more than what we expected. Almost everything you need are provided. The staff are all very friendly and nice. The location is very good, most of the malls and tourist attraction of the city can be reached by walking. We even walked to Jesselton for our island-hopping activity. For a stay in Kota Kinabalu city center, I will always go b...

It is a good place to stay for backpacker and those who want budget traveling. The hotel is located at center of the town of Kota Kinabalu. The staff of the hotel quite nice and service my friend and i with a smile most of the time, simply say quite friendly.Eventhough the room of the hotel quite small but it is convenient for both of us to sleep. We also can online with...

CONS: no outside drying -caused moisture buildup inside windowless men toilet, no toilet seats in 2 sitting toilet bowls -caused me to step on the bowl posed accident risk, travellers round the world come here with different jetlag time and management should put kitchen/TV curfew on noisy gathering after 11 pm (Malaysia time) -caused me a sleepless night, needs more to...

I had booked a single room and got a really spacious room for the price. Clean toilets and showers with hot water. a small hostel so not too many people in the place. My room had a cupboard and 2 multipurpose plugs so no hassle in charging electronics.Bedding and towel provided.... The common area is well designed and brightly lit with full glass walls so it feels ca...

I've been staying at this place for many many times and never got disappointed. The location is great, close to mall, eateries, market and even the Sunday morning market. Now, with Uber available in Kota Kinabalu, traveling by a car is as cheap and convenient as ever.

This hotel is located at a great location. It is clean and the staff are friendly. Breakfast (bread, coffee/tea, fruits, cereal and even Malaysia roti canai) is provided. What I did during breakfast was sipping a cup of coffee at the balcony while enjoying the morning breeze and looking at sights of the morning crowd. Great feeling. The room is a little bit small and h...

This premise is right where the Gaya street market starts & within walking distance to Pasar Filipin, Todak monument & many more attractions. The staff are friendly and they help us to book the ticket to Manukan Island for a better deal. I will come back here again if I need to stay for long period in Kota Kinabalu.

the borneo gaya lodge is situated in the heart of kota kinabalu city. they have very friendly and honest staffs. we left our camera last march and just got them last weekend but they still gave it back. when you go down borneo gaya lodge, there are a lot of malay food nearby. these is also the street where they have sunday market and it is very nice to see diff...

The lodge is very clean and comfortable, the price is reasonable, and the location is very near to the Gaya Street, also opposite to the seafood restaurant, is convenient to us. And the staff help us call the taxi at midnight, maybe this is one of the best lodge in Kota Kinabalu.

I took the private bedroom with queen size bed. The location of this backpacker's place is very central. The airport bus is situated behind this place. If you want to go for tours, ask the receptionist. He can help you to sort it easily. Overall, I enjoyed my stay at Kota Kinabalu - one of my favourite destinations in the world!

Just Found Out need to check in at old building , after climb to 2nd floor. Reception check in me at Old building which I paid for New wing. They told me fulled and moved me to old wing, but I paid more for new Wing. End up need me to wait only 15 min and check me in new wing? what a silly reason ? Stayed here for 2 night but found out expired bread roll on fridge ,...

it was fun to stay in capsule. I like that purple lights, the mirror. USB charger. Have ventilation. Air con outside, was a little cold, can't ask to change, cause other 3 people in room with no room, maybe hot. Can't turn off all lights, even without card charger is working. And one blue button is on. So I tried to stick something to cover it at least a bit. The bedd...

Being a spa they did some spa things like have mattresses on the floor and have chiming music with dimmed lights but I kind of liked that it was different and it was open late as I had a late flight in. The toilet was ok but a bit disappointing and there wasn't a bus stop close enough for me and the road access was only from one direction so it was in a cul de sac. T...

First impressions are everything and not only was the lodge clean, modern, new and comfy looking but the owners are also so friendly. They couldn't have made me feel anymore comfortable if they tried. They made a point of listening and then later asking me how my day trip went, unlike other hostels where I was just greeted. The other members of staff were also very fri...

Affordable price, walking distance to main attractive places in Kota Kinabalu city, just 15 minutes drive to Kota Kinabalu International Airport, easy to travel by using uber apps, friendly and helpful receptionists, has 24 hours convenient shop at the ground floor just beside the hotel. Aircond has no remote, TV too obsolete and channels were not clear, no slipper p...

The hotel is about 5 km. from the centre of Kota Kinabalu. The hotel is very close to the pick-up point for mini-buses into K.K. (about 50 meters) and it costs 2 ringgit one-way. For a wireless internet connection it is better to be on the 1st floor than the 2nd floor. My room with a double-bed (a "queen") has a good bathroom, good air-conditioning, good wireless co...

A very good budget hotel to stay for travelers who want to take a bus ride to any of Sabah attraction pace outside Kota Kinabalu. A disappointing moment during the confirmation within the desk, the receptionist a bit rude handling the conversation through phone which she's been mistakenly look at my booking but I handled it properly.

One of my preferred hotel in kota kinabalu. It is located just outside the busy boundary of kk city centre. Basically you are outside from the busiest part of the town yet you still can walk by foot to the city cemtre and by car, it only took 2 minutes (this because of the traffic light). The service is great, the staff is doing the best that they can to provide comf...

the horizon hotel in kota kinabalu is situated in the heart of the city close the istanza, the sabah governor’s residence. it’s a new hotel, being only 4 months old. but don’t let that dissuade you from staying here. the general manager, philip d. theseira, who i would now count as a good friend, has a top rate staff. all are very welcoming, polite and most helpful; ad...

It was a family outing with young girl & she really enjoyed her time at the pool. She woke up real early to spend another splashing hours at the pool before v checked out. I was in Kota Kinabalu with my mom to visit family members. The reason why I chose Novotel was for its brand name. Based on the price I paid for the room, I am indeed satisfied with the service provided to me. Staff were extremely helpful and friendly. As I arrived early I could not check in, however my information was taken before hand, and when I got back there at 4:...

I have experienced the hotel twice now and the staff were able to recognise me on my second stay. Check in and check out was efficient and in Kota Kinabalu this hotel has internet connection which is reliable. Telephone operators are friendly and reliable. Room service was reasonably priced and served efficently.

If you are looking for midrange resort in Kota Kinabalu, Beringgis beach resort is the perfect choice. Immediately upon check in, I was impressed by the resort lobby which is uniquely Asian and Malaysian. The front desk staff were extremelly friendly and helpfull, I was given all info that I need. The lobby has a sundry shop, mini library and internet corner, You can en...

It's far from the central business district (kota kinabalu); you'll definitely need a car to get around. But, the hotel itself is located within a small commercial area and Grabcars are easy to come by. Rooms were spacious and clean, and staff were friendly. Food served for breakfast could be much better.

the suite is very suitable for family with young child stay for a holiday at kota kinabalu. The accommodation is stay at place which can easily to visit town .... all the facility is ok but need time to improve. My family also planning at end year holiday also stay back this accommodation.

It’s been few times we been staying there everytime we came to Kota Kinabalu , but Dailypod unit is the best we had all this while . It’s been great , the area is big and worth for the price . We sure will come back and no more to scroll just directly choose for dailypod unit for sure .

Pros: Security guards everywhere, restaurants nearby, fast wifi, TV channel is clear compare to some that offered the same price, ample parking spaces and are still free, close to the city Cons: Aeropods still not fully construted. Gateway to the parking place is sometimes close, have to move around and pass the gravel before we can get into the building. The only ru...

We got an upgrade to a huge room with kitchen - Otter's House! View is awesome: lush greenery, sunset at the west, Kota Kinabalu night view, all from within the room! Sinurambi has a swimming pool facing west for sunset view, narrow path leading to small orchard, they even have snooker and table tennis as leisure. we even observed 1 of the best sunrise at the east side...

Everything is great with this apartment. Free access to private parking, high speed internet, clean environment, and good staff/host. Checkin/out process is easy since it is self checkin/out. The apartment is close to the pool, if you have small children trying to sleep the people at the pool can be loud. It's not so much problem for us. On the good side, the pool loo...

Stephen and his wife were great in ensuring we had a good stay. The apartment was very cosy and comfortable. Kids loved the pool and their beds. Amenities were a walk away. The pool had an OK view of the sunset (not full sunset though). Many thanks to Stephen's family for a wonderful holiday. Hope to be back again for Kundasang, KK and Eastern Sabah... It’s affordable place, close to hosp likas and UMS. Place is clean but can get dirty if somehow you end up staying with a sloppy tenant at the same time. During my booking i notice that there’s a lot of accomoda...

Best location - above best shopping mall IMAGO in kota kinabalu, great sunset view from hotel balcony, luxurious interior desgin and furnitures, clean environment, help of friendly and responsibile staff during check in and out. Highly recommended for others who plans to visit kota kinabalu for any purpose!

The apartments are located on the opposite side of the highway not on the beach side. The actual room was comfortable with washing machine and fridge. The washing machine kept stopping annoyingly especially on the dry cycle...

This is definitely one of the best place to stay in kota kinabalu. security is good, shopping place is just below the appartment (most branded and expensive items), facilities are clean and well maintained. I will definitely stay at the sabah holiday homes in the future and I definitely recommend this place for family.

We enjoyed our 2 nights stay here very much. located in the middle of the city kota kinabalu. Easy access to shopping mall. theres a lot of shops/eateries around that area.. Luckily about 5mins drive to Jesselton Point Waterfront, Night Market etc easier to shop, eat and go to the islands. The host - Daphne was very pleasant and helpful. The host (Ann) is very helpful and kind. She responded to our queries attentively. The seaview apartment unit given to us is very clean, tidy, with complete kitchenware and washing machine, all in best condition, that has made our 3 night stay at ease, comfy and relaxing, since the unit is facing the ocean. More like a town than city. Shopping around business district can be done by foot and you can enjoy cheap and good live seafood in this area.
Kota Kinabalu is more like a quiet town than a city. The main attraction I would recommend Mount Kota Kinabalu to be close to nature.
A city with shopping malls to visit. There are a few islands for activities such as snorkeling, and others.
Kota Kinabalu is gaining popularity among Asian travels as well as from the West. It is a very safe place to enjoy with the family and it has a lot of venues for out door fun.
It's a small city which is awakening. It's still charming and has some bars good places to each sea food.
Our family didn't stay in the city but visited daily. We stayed at a resort outside of the city. We enjoyed coming into the city to visit the islands, shopping and dinner.
A quiet city with limited options for travellers. Recommended for booking further tours or accommodation only.
i visited here a few years back, what a difference. The roads have been improved, the areas are now very clean and tidy, shopping is good, nightlife is good, restaurants so much choice.
There are really two parts to Kota Kinabalu (KK), one is the city which can be covered in a day with very good planning (or a very good guide!).
A city full of adventure. Besides diving and beaches, a bike tour in the village and a jungle walk along mount Kinabalu were also good.
Kota Kinobalu is amazing, islands, beaches, sun and the ocean, you will love this place and the seafood is so so so yummy!
the hotel servive is quite nice.the service good.people there nicely .the location is convenience for family trip, shopping ,dine every way eazy to find and the transportation every where are eazy got motor and cab every where but when we check in is waiting so long make us tired.
A short stay in KK town is great for the food and the prewar buildings especially along Gaya Street.
I can't really recommend Kota Kinabalu for vacation destination unless you have a unlimited funds. Getting to KK and staying in KK isn't that expensive.
It's isn't my first time in Kota Kinabalu but I has been awhile and I found it very amusing with new shopping centre around and leisure island such as manukan is rather unforgettable.
Kota Kinabalu is a beautiful city with abundance of restaurants especially seafood and at affordable prices.
The city is much larger than we thought initially and there are many places of interest in and out of KK, with a great diversity of outdoor experiences: all water sports (including snorkelling and scuba diving), nature and forest walks, mountain hiking, shopping and dining, etc.
The city area of Kota Kinabalu is not really a big area where you can easily access most of the places by foot.
Wonderful city with sandy beaches and mount Kinabalu as must see. Good mix of outdoor and places to chill out.
a lot to do for outdoor activities and starting point to a lot of other attractions. easy access to beaches and islands.
Wonderful place to visit. You have highlands, the islands and nature all wrapped in one. The roads are good and road trips to Kundasang, Kudat or Sandakan is wonderful.
Nice and reasonable pricing of sea foods. City is easier to walk around, but not many city attractions to look for.
Vibrant city with many restaurants, malls, pubs and tourism destination such as the islands,Mt Kinabalu, and Cultural village within driving distance.
kk city is not really big. making easy to walk around from hotel. kk city is full of seafood restaurant and the price is not over charge.
The food, shopping mall and attraction are not as well established as compared to Kuala Lumpur. However, Kota Kinabalu offers good beach/sea activities and not to mention the spectacular view of Kinabalu Mountain.
A bustling and rapidly developing city with a regard to the tranquility and preservation of their vast nature.
I've been to many cities with markets of all types. Not trying to sound sour, but, a market is a market, is a market; whether it's stuff or food, night or some other specialty, the deals aren't deals and there are all types of goods available.
Kota Kinabalu is the city with the beautifull port, beautifull beach, also mountain area. The cost of living is also cheap.
It is just a small town with limited sight seeing activities. The food is okay, but not great. Movie tickets are cheap comparatively.
Very beautiful beach and the sea water is very clear. The beach is clear and not deep, suitable for children to play at seaside.
