"the grand dorsett hotel is only 4 years old. however, it has set itself up as the premier hotel in labuan. all the rooms are large and spacious, from the smallest to the largest. the royal suite boasts two bedrooms and central living area. whilst the premier suites are smaller, they still have a large separate living area from the one bedroom. making them both ideal for families, who may need the extra room for additional children’s beds. all rooms have king size beds in the main bedroom and are fully air-conditioned. as you enter the large lobby, you feel welcome and relaxed. there is a central bar, offering reasonably priced alcohol, food and beverages. just off the main lobby is the fun pub, which is great if you like live music. however a word of warning, it is very loud. other facilities include valet parking, a large gymnasium and swimming pool. if you take a room on either the 7th or 8th floors, you also have access to the executive lounge. the hotel also caters for both smokers and non smokers. all the staff are friendly, polite and very helpful. they’ve even booked my onward travel, whist i’ve relaxed in the lobby bar. the hotel is located near the water front, and the choice of views is either of the harbour or victoria town. it is only a couple of minutes walk to victoria and all the shops, many duty free, bars and restaurants. the island of labuan is government tax free, making the purchase of any goods very cheap in comparison to the rest of malaysia. opposite the hotel is a large mall offering very reasonably priced goods. this building also houses most of the multinational banking corporations on the upper floors. i’ve stayed at this hotel twice now, and nothing has changed my mind, in wanting to return on my next visit."
