I stayed mostly at Gili island and its a nice place to spend 2-3 nights as the sea front is quite close by and beach are quite sandy and clear water so very good for snorkelling etc.
If you plan to go to gili trawangan by public boat (15,000 rupiah) per person vs speed boat (more than 100,000 per person), you can go to Bangsal by taxi (170,000 rupiah) from Mataram.
Take horse car (30,000 rupiah or less) negotiate before ride to jetty from taxi park. At Bangsal, there will be sooo many local trying to sell you speed boat ticket by telling you they will leave in short. Do not take! Public boat is good enough for 20 min ride to Gili.
An Island rich in Nature. Beautiful Sun and Sea. Good place to be away from City life. An untouch nature that would be appreciated by whoever were to be in Lombok.
Not well developed yet. Good for those travelers whose looking for an uncommercialised spot for beaches, waterfalls and mountain hikes.
Lombok has many scenic beaches. It takes time to visit them one by one. If you have more time, try to visit Gilis.
Gili Trawangan is the most crowded spot in Lombok. But if you want to experience peacefulness, beaches in South Lombok are waiting for you as those were still pristine and not many people came to those remote areas.
Nice place for couple to enjoy their romantic time at beach or if you are looking for adventure, can do trekking as well.
Lombok isn't really big to be honest, you can definitely visit the whole island in one to two weeks. Depending on what you're going to do.
A lot of people would recommend to visit Gili Trawangan but believe me when I say there's a lot more than just the three famous Gilis (Trawangan, Meno, Air). There are a lot of beautiful beaches in Kuta and waterfalls located in the foot of Mount Rinjani. I visited Senggigi as well (definitely better than Mataram!).
Beautiful Island spoilt by the locals rubbish everywhere, on the road side, on the beach, in the water.
...very disappointing.
The Best untouch area so far that I had ever visited. Beautiful Beaches Clear Sky and full of nature.
The locals from Lombok are beautiful people, 4 days just wasn't long enough. Can't wait to go back and see more.
.. I could easily move here.
Lombok is a not develop city, I am not recommend to go. if you are planing to hiking there may be a good choice otherwise go Gili.
Island from Bail would be the better choice.
Sengigi beach not recommend because Lombok is a non-delevolope place, I think there are not well for traveling.
perfect for couple who want to escape from routine & boring life and enjoy your private time together
Lombok is not a city, it's a large island with numerous settlements (it's actually 4 separate islands if you count the Gili islands, which are also "Lombok").
I'm not sure why Agoda refer's to Lombok's as a city.
beautiful place for everything, diving, swimming, party, foods, hiking, everything is perfect.. the beaches are superb.
. love it.. love it
It is obvious that Lombok are now in the early stage of tourism development. There are much potential with is great beaches and clear sea water.
But a big effort is needed to clean up the cities and improve the local awareness on cleanliness. Rubbish can be seen everywhere! A trip to Tanjung A'an is memorable for both the good & bad. Good for the nice sandy beaches, sea & view. Bad for all the rubbish strewn on the beach and practically whole lot of floating rubbish which may be mistaken for seaweed. Being a majority muslim inhabitants, not much of a night life is seen. We majorly stayed in Senggigi area, may be its a different story at the Gilis.
havent explore much this city, but if u stay at senggigi beach, must use car to go every where coz its very farrr
Lombok has developed well in the past few years. However need more places for relax. Please develop Lombok like Bali!
Lombok got so many things to offer. stayed for 4days and 3 nights but still not satisfied. food was awesome, people in Lombok is very friendly and polite, the magnificent scenery.
Nice island to have relax with family or beloved ones, kind of quiet place but it has nice night life to hang out :)
Lombok is beautiful island and very easy to go around with transport. friendly people and very nature island.
Lombok is very beautiful. But it's very rural. Don't expect to see another Bali.Roads are basically good and there is much less trafic than in Bali.
Local food is amazing- you should try it! Shopping is so-so.You won't find any alcohol at conveniece stores, only at restaurants. I recommend visiting one of Sasak villages for some cultural experience!
This is a review of Senggigi Beach area. Stay away. It's an over-priced, under-visited area, and the local peddlers won't leave you alone.
You can't even sit in a restaurant without the touts coming in selling you necklaces, and all kinds of trinkets. What I'm saying is that it's hard to relax when every 15 minutes, somebody is bothering you to buy stuff and wont leave, even after you say "no" several times. If you want a tropical paradise, SKIP this area/beach. Lombok does NOT have good reviews, anywhere, but there are gems to be found and explored, and of course everybody's experiences are different. Ours was not a positive one, with locals trying to scam up virtually everywhere apart from the Sheraton resort we stayed in. BTW, don't stay here either. Again, skip Lombok, and go elsewhere, unless you really like roughing it out, and rough it will be.
A great retreat from the craziness of Bali. Nowhere near as many tourists but beautiful beaches.....
The city is worth exploring especially if you are into observing daily life of the locals, and the architecture of the Masjid (Muslim prayer place).
Lombok is known as "island of 1000 Masjid"
Lombok is less busy compare to Bali, hence a great escape for relaxing vacation. The island is mostly sitted by muslims, hence the environment is more subtle yet not ultra-conservatives.
Lots of great beaches, mountains & cultural attractions to spend time at, especially the gilis (islands) for diving and snorkelling fanatics.
Lomboks main sights can be covered in a few days. Dont expect the same tourist infastructure as Bali.
Alot of nice quiet beaches but aspart from that there isnt much to do. Its worth a visit but I wont spend a long time there.
Beautiful beaches, beautiful nature (e.g. Mount Rinjani is absolutely phenomenal!). And most importantly, super friendly people and very quiet compared to Bali (at least, when we were there in May 2015).
I would reccomend lombok if you enjoy beaches however there is not alot of sightseeing or things to do as in Bali.
I would reccomend the Gili islands though for beaches nightlife and relaxation.
Lombok is a nice, safe relaxing city with friendly locals. Not a party town, it's a good place to go as a solo traveller or family :)
