Largest town fo 450km in any direction so availabilty of shops and facilities such as govt services is the best you will get in the region.
Sugar town with huge mining industry. There are better central Queensland destinations, but Mackay is okay if you need to be in the region for work or play.
Mackay was a very friendly place. It reminded me of growing up in Mt Isa. I really enjoyed my stay here.
Mackay is a mining town which caters for the local population with business people visiting for a couple of nights as fifo/dido.
Would not recommend Mackay for long term stays as above this is a working mans mining town built around mining industry. Mackay is a rough and ready town..
Mackay has many nice beaches to the north of the city. Tropical weather, so be careful of stingers and crocodiles.
Otherwise...good fishing also!
Do some research before going to Mackay. You can overlook many wonderfull things to see On arrival into Mackay stop at the information centre on the main road and talk to the friendly staff.
