Traveler impressions of Mae Sai (Chiang Rai)

More about Mae Sai (Chiang Rai)

Known as the northernmost city of Thailand, Mae Sai is the last stop between Thailand and Myanmar, often playing host to travelers coming and going across the border. There is frequent bus service into Mae Sai, especially from Chiang Mai and Chaing Rai, as well as minibuses that pass through with border crossing passengers.

Mae Sai is also a popular destination among tours of what’s known as the Golden Triangle, the geographic marking of the place where Thailand meets with Myanmar and Laos. Given these reasons, it’s easy to see why Mae Sai is home to so many hotels and guest houses, and why it’s such a popular destination for being a relatively small city.

Whether in Mae Sai for a day while passing through, or spending a few days to explore, don’t miss a trip to sites such as the geographic spot which marks the Northernmost Point of Siam, and the natural attraction of Tham Luang Cave. The caves are located just over 10 kilometers outside of town, and is a great destination especially for active and adventurous travelers who don’t mind walking for a few kilometers with a torchlight to try and uncover something new, or just explore the caves.

There’s a lot more to see and do in Mae Sai, and the best way to discover what else this city has to offer in terms of attractions, landmarks, and hotels is by exploring the interactive map on this page.
