More about Mesa (AZ)

Part of the Great Phoenix urban complex, Mesa is Arizona’s third largest city. It was founded in 1878 by Mormon pioneers and is today one of America’s fastest growing cities. Although not one of the better-known cities, Mesa’s population rivals that of such greats like Cleveland, Miami, and Saint Louis. To reach Mesa, travelers may use the Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport.

Mesa offers plenty of opportunities to enjoy your time here. With strong roots in the Mormon culture, the Mesa Mormon Temple is a highlight on the sightseeing itinerary and the third largest outside of Salt Lake City. To delve deeper into the history of the city, make a visit to the Mesa Historical Museum. For flight enthusiast, Mesa is certainly ideal with its Commemorative Air Force Museum dedicated to the preservation of great war planes that dominated the skies during World War II. There is also the opportunity to fly a dogfight mission in the cockpit of a jet at Fighter Combat International. For spending time outside, there is a great mix of Hohokam Indian canals and a beautiful desert botanical garden at Park of the Canals. While in Mesa, also tour the Sonorana desert or float down the Salt River.

Be sure to check out the interactive map of Mesa for information on hotel locations, attractions, and must-see destinations.
