"I had a very comfortable and pleasant stay here. 1 to 2 min walk from north exit of Mito station, hotel is just behind a Lawson. The room and bathroom space are great, and the amenities very satisfactory. Staff are very nice and helpful - the lounge staff at breakfast are so nice and polite it really lifts moods, reception staff also do their best to help you. I wanted to confirm my travel route for 1 of my sightseeing itineraries and the reception staff did his best to find all the information, print out and explain to me. Thanks for giving me an ease of mind. Breakfast buffet is small but the variety is sufficient to not bore if staying for more than 1 night. Got a good impression of the JR-East Hotel Mets chain after staying here."

"Smile Mito was exactly the kind of hotel I needed: a cheap place to leave my luggage while I explored the area, and a place to sleep. The room isn't large, but I didn't need it to be. The hotel is about a five minute walk away from Mito JR Station, which is itself part of a larger shopping center/food court/cinema/arcade. The riverside/lakeside walking path right across the street from the hotel's entrance is about a 20-30 minute walk to the famous Kairakuen Gardens. The English speaking Drunken Duck bar is about 10 minutes away, and an Irish Pub is a few minutes down the road. There are plenty of restaurants within five minutes of the hotel, so you won't be wanting for options. I actually spent about half of my vacation visiting Oarai, but it was cheaper to stay at Smile Mito and ride the trains to Oarai rather than stay in Oarai itself."

"The hotel was within walking distance (10-15 min) from Mito Station. The route was not too difficult - just head north from the station along the main road till you go past a post office and then turn left at the junction. The hotel name was clearly visible from the junction. If you come from the other direction, there's a huge banner proclaiming the location of the hotel at the junction too. The streets are lined with shops and restaurants and there's a large department store a few bus stops away (or 10-15 min walk). The room was small but adequate. "

The only drawback is that it's not very accessible to the metro/train station and there are no shuttle services to the nearby train station. Before you come to Oarai, make sure you research on the travelling arrangements!"
