Munnar is a gorgeous hill station in the Indian state of Kerala. It was once the summer retreat of the British and is famous for its tea plantations. The area is also known for having the Neelakurinji Flowers, a blue flower that only blooms once every 12 years. Reaching Munnar is done via car with the nearest airport being Cochin International Airport
some 110km away.
Munnar is abundant in scenic spots, including waterfalls, lakes, and national parks. Near the town is the Atukkad Waterfalls, Blosson Park, and Pothamedu View Point. The small town of Chithirapuram is only 10km away with its world-famous tea plantations. Tea Museum
is a great place to visit for those who have never gone to a tea plantation before, and a tour around a factory shows how tea is processed. For flora and fauna lovers, Eravikulam National Park
serves as an excellent destination, featuring the Atlas moth, leopards, tigers, and lion-tailed macaque. More wildlife can be experienced at the Chinnar Wildlife Sanctuary or the Salim Ali Bird Sanctuary. Many consider Munnar to provide a great romantic setting with beautiful landscapes that can be taken in via a cycling trip, hike, or boating.
