Hotel Metropolitan Nagano
Nagano,Nagano - View on map
"This was my second stay for another 3 nights. Would recommend booking the Superior Twin Room. Very much bigger at 30 sq m. Worth the extra $$. Very reasonable price for the quality of sleep you get. A real 4=-star hotel. Very convenient to book tickets for outstation. The Apico Highway bus office is just opposite. Booked my ticket to Togakushi Shrine (must do) Buy the Togakushi Travel Pass which comes with a free ride to the famous Nagano famous (Zenkoiji). The walk back is all doiwn hill for 1,8m. Yopu can also buy tickets from here to Takayama, Matsumoto and Kamijkochi. At the East Gate of the Nagano Station, you can take buses to the surrounding ski resorts e.g. Happo-One . Or to Omachi or Shinado Omachi Station for the start of the Tateyama Alphine Route (Snow Wall) Will be back again. "

Dormy Inn Nagano Zenkounoyu Natural Hot Spring
Nagano,Nagano - View on map
"Sadly we only stayed two nights at the Dormy Inn, because it was so relaxing and comfortable. The hot spring facilities on the top floor of the hotel were perfect for starting the day super early and relaxing after a long day exploring Nagano. The location of the hotel is also perfect for day trips because the train station is just around the corner. Overall one of the best hotels we stayed in on our trip to Japan regarding comfort and price. "

Jinpyokaku Honten

"okay so best could be a little overwhelming here as i may have tried this one ryokan, but after all this is my first visit to Japan, we're on our honeymoon and it happened to snow in the autumn of the year and we can dip in the onsen at the same time snow was falling, what else could we asked for more. we booked a room with indoor onsen just in case we didn't make it to the public bath, man the indoor onsen really put up the atmosphere by much, totally worth it. food was also amazing, although it's not served right in the room, well after seeing their full meal plan, i guess we could all agree it's too much to set up in the bedroom, better yet no cooking odour. staffs were very helpful and kindly attending to our questions and needs. I'd totally recommend this to anyone looking for the ryokan experience. don't forget to visit the monkey park while you're in the area. "

Traveler impressions of Nagano

More about Nagano

The city of Nagano is located in Japan’s Chubu District. The city is best accessed by bullet train from Tokyo, but there are also buses for those who would like to travel through the region while seeing some of the beautiful scenery along the roads.

There’s a great deal to see and do in Nagano, even though the city is mostly known for an important temple. Nagano is home to the famous Zenkoji Temple, which was built in the seventh century and is a major place of pilgrimage for those of the Buddhist faith. The temple houses a Buddha statue which is only shown to the public every six years, and understandably the city is overrun by visitors especially during this time.

The prefecture’s most celebrated art museum is also located in Nagano city, within easy reach of the famous temple. Travelers to Nagano often visit Nagano Prefectural Shinano Art Museum to appreciate some of the most beautiful traditional Japanese-style paintings as well as changing exhibits at some of the galleries. Of course there’s much more to this city than just a temple and museum, but these are great jumping-off points for a most complete exploration of Nagano.
