My friend and I missed the dinner (and so cannot review that) as we had difficulties reaching the area, travelling 10 hrs from Osaka to Nakanojo, arriving at the station after 9pm, which supports how incredibly extraordinary the staff at Shima Tamura really is. After 9pm there are no taxis, buses, or any kind of transport to the onsen asides from a 4 hour walk up. We f...
We stay for 1 night. There are two public hot spring baths & both are equally good. We do not speak Japanese but the hotel assign one who speak English to take care of our stay there.
Kashiwaya ryokan is located a short walk from the 清流の湯入口 bus stop and the bus stop returning to Nakanojo station, making it in a very convenient location. I was greeted warmly by the staff and my luggage was kept while the receptionist/owner gave me some extremely useful maps and explained the available onsens in the area. Traditional hotel with nice location, located along the river so you will have river view from guest room as well as onsen. But staff can only speak Japanese and by japanese operation style, everything is fixed. This hotel is good for traveler who can speak Japanese and get used to Japanese style.
