If you are in India, you will probably end up spending at least a few days in New Delhi. Mostly, it is horrible: a crowded mass of humanity suffering through a poorly planned city that does not have enough mass transit.
If you are a foreigner, you are the immediate target of every scammer and greedy businessperson in the country who will make your travel experience unpleasant through their sheer persistence. If you can make your plan, know where to go, and ignore the touts, you'll do well. Even better, have a local friend before you go, because the average, non-business people in India can be wonderfully friendly and will help you make the most of your time in this sprawling metropolis.
Suggest you really take the time to soak up the atmosphere and engage with the historical relevance of this place.
We loved it.
The Metro is a great way to get around, if you can find a good hotel nearby then use it. Tuk-tuk drivers are mercenary when you have finished all your shopping, needless to say they are only interested in their commission on what you have spent and not your stay.
I felt safe at all times when out and about. The big downside the smog.
I have been to Delhi many times and I would recomend anybody to come and explore New Delhi and NCR. There are many attractions to visit like Jantar Mantar, India Gate, Red Fort, Kutubminar, AksharDham to name a few.
Delhi is the National capital of India. It has several British and Mughal era monuments....and heritage sites.
.....to visit, Museums, Forts...and religious places....Since the city is big and travel time is more as compared to smaller cities...Few more days added to itinerary will always give extra pleasure. the Food, and
I was really not there long enough to take day trips, I only used the hotel as a stop over base for returning to Australia.
New Delhi is much beautiful city than Mumbai. And it`s possible to go to Agra for viewing the Taj Mahar and back to New Delhi within the same day even if you use train.
You can enjoy viewing many landmarks in New Delhi and Agra.
Delhi is a city of markets, I like shopping here. The Palika Market in Connaught Place is very good for shopping, I can say good bargaining.
If you really want to enjoy Delhi you have information about it.
If you like culture or interesting historical places, this is a place to visit as there're so many of these to offer.
Delhi is surrouded by various ancient historical places and being the National capital city it has both old and new architecture to see.
Many historical attractions and The Taaj Mahal is also within 150 kms from New Delhi. Its a great giangantic city to stay and enjoy some of India's history..
New Delhi is really crowded city, its not really clean but its interesting to see about the culture and especially foods.
Delhi is a beautiful city with many historic sites, but with the same poverty and deplorable side found all throughout the country.
The public parks were well-maintained with lots of people enjoying the great weather and beauty. The historical sites were well worth the visit. You need to have a private car and driver to get around successfully...but this really applies to everywhere in the country.
I have traveled to many parts of SE Asia, but this was my first trip to India. In comparison, I found it to be an assault on my senses.
Unfortunately, we had to make our trip in May when the temperatures are so high. The smog was horrible, the street traffic was dangerous, the street-level life was crowded, noisy, dusty, and filthy with all forms of trash and garbage, the water was polluted, and sellers and beggars were extremely aggressive. The only "tourist" site that was very well kept was the Taj Mahal. All others were in serious need of upkeep. Restaurants and coffee shops were a welcome respite from the heat, dirt, and crowds. New Delhi needs to clean up its act, but where do they get the money to do so with so many living in dire poverty?
i will return in New Delhi with my son and sister. I think that they have to see this beautiful and surprising great town.
this is a very nice part of Delhi - a lot cleaner and quieter than other areas that we have stayed in Delhi.
The hotel is delightful and very clean - will definitely stay here again next time we visit Delhi.
Overall we enjoyed our time in Delhi and spent 5 nights all up (probably a little long). We saw most of the major sights and recommend Jama Masjid, Qutub Minar and Humayun's Tomb the most.
If you're there at the right time of year (Feb-Mar) please visit the President Estate Gardens (Mughal Gardens). They are only open for one month of the year and well worth seeing.
Delhi is the worst city in India. Its the most untidy place ever. Even in the city there is a raw sewage you can find.
If its not the gateway to Agra where you can find Taj Mahal, I wont be in Delhi. However, sites like Homayun Tomb, Red Fort and Gandhi Memorial are worth the visit.
Everyone is trying to scam money out of you - I can deal with it but honestly it just gets old after a while.
It's never-ending and give Connaught Place a miss because every 5 yards someone is trying to hustle you.
Well Very heavy traffic. The Cabs drivers and owners take you for the ride. They commit fraud by taking you on long routes wasting time and money.
As a capital city of the country having great historical background, going around for sightseeing is an enjoyable experience.
Diverse culture and locations make it unique. NCR getting extended from Delhi as a suburb developed for business activities, it become a central place as the business hub.
Getting around Delhi can be difficult. The Metro is the cheapest way, but it is very crowded, difficult to get on and off, and few stations are located near the main attractions.
You have to walk a lot of catch a tuk tuk. Make sure you agree on a price first and ensure the agreed price is for the journey, not per person.
The major sites are interesting, but the pollution, infrastructure and hawkers make the city an horrible place.
Get in and get out.
For travelling conveyance, Metro Rail is best suited 6 AM to 11 PM. In the Day time Delhi Transport Buses Come II.
Other wise Cab Service is also good - particularly MERU Cab. Most of the time you can pick Auto-Rickshaw. Beside Historical Places - Qutub Minar, Lal Qila, India Gate, Rajghat, Many Temples are there, latest one being Akshar Dham Temple. Markets are the life of DELHI-NCR : Connaught Place, Chandni Chowk, Karol Bagh etc.
Gurgaon is suburb of capital City New Delhi very close International airport. Gurgaon has couple of malls for shopping.
Bargain as much as you can as they will put high price. At least try to bargain quarter of the price for sarees
There are very noce sight seeing such as Red Fort, Qutub Minar, Old Fort, Parliament building, Temples, India Gate and shopping centers
Great place for sight seeing and cultural events, its very useful if your driver is keen to tell you all about the things that are happening around at the time.
Do make a point of asking the driver about things, we found that to be very helpful. I didnt feel scared at all.
I was at the holiday for the night before the flight the next morning. So I did not look around the town much.
This place has wonderful, cheap food. Has the friendliest taxi drivers in the world who despite their kindness, use their horns a lot.
The place is filled with generous and kind locals disposed toward helping others, especially foreigners.
Delhi is a typical Indian "modern" town, with 12 milion inhabitants and 8 milion vehicles! traffic is amazing, cars and motorcicles going everywhere! lots of religious spots and temples, but zero organization.
I wish I had more time to visit (I was in business trip), but there is surely more i have to discover. I will have to go back to try more.
