When looking for a beach vacation without much else to do besides relaxing by the sea, this is the ideal destination. The biggest, perhaps only, attraction for visitors to Ngwesaung is the long stretch of white sandy beach
The small beach town is very remote, so the best way to arrive is by bus or minibus from the nearby Panthein or Yangon cities. It’s also important to note that ATMs and other banking stations are not readily available, so it’s best to come prepared with enough cash. Some of the hotels in Ngwesuan can assist with currency exchange, but that’s not always guaranteed as well.
At low tide, it’s possible to walk across the rocky beach to reach Lovers Island
, where one can arrange for snorkeling or night dives. It’s also possible to have the hotel’s knowledgeable staff assist with arranging for an elephant ride along the beach. The rest of the time should be reserved for a lot of relaxation, not doing much else but enjoying the lazy beach days until it’s time to go back to the real world.
The beach is the main attraction at Ngwesaung, but exploring the interactive map on this page is a good way to see what else there might be to see or do.
