Nongkhai Tavilla Hotel and Convention Center

"There are two hotels in Nong Khai, the Nongkhai Hotel and Resort and the Nongk Khai resort both close to the train station. The hotel is part of a parking lot come warehouse and is quite a way from the main city and restaurants, you definately need a car to stay here or use a Tuk Tuk or Taxi to get into the city. The plus point is that if you wish to obtain a visa from the Thai embassy they will organise a car to take you their and back the next day for Thai Baht1,800. There is also a shop adjacent to the hotel if you are there for a visa run, to compare prices. The only problem I found was the electric sockets were worn and needed servicing and it was difficult to use your charger even with a thai adaptor. I stayed in one of the chalets at the rear of the hotel come garage/warehouse which was reasonably comfortable. The lady at reception called "Mon" speaks very good English."

Park Pool Resort

"We stay here often. One of my favorite places in Thailand. Nice clean hotel rooms and cabanas. Beautiful pool. But best part is the very relaxed feel of the place. Friendly but not overly agressive staff are the perfect fit for the place. Adequate breakfast with both Thai and western options. The emphasis appears to be on the grounds where there are lots of different plants and flowers. You see staff attending to it all day in the relaxed pace that is common at this resort. We love staying here right after Bangkok, the difference in pace is palpable. We see lots of the same people staying here which says a lot. It is a chill resort without all the hipster wantabe attitude that is common in many Thailand resorts. I wish there were more of these types of resorts I'm Thailand!"

"Its just 1km from the bus station, we paid a tuktuk 40baht to the hotel and its like 5mins to get there. We like our stay at the hotel since its only5mins to be everywhere by walk. There are the very well-known Vietnamese Restaurant, the indochina market and temples along the Melong River. We walked to see the sunrise in the early morn at the river and the weather was so nice. Also, there are so many steet food around the hotel. I would recommend to try the PadThai and Thai papaya salad at the corner of the road. the fresh juice is only25baht. I just cant wait to be back to Nongkhai again. This city is so lovely and chill. After the stay at the hotel, we've been to Vientiane, Loas by using thier service. One day tour in Vte is a must thing to do and its really worth my spent. "

White Inn Nongkhai

"All good for my guests who arrived late; everything according to description. A dreadful thing though remains the terrible noise upon those Thai groups departing early in the morning as of 5.30am. Shouting, giggling and massive door slamming make sure that EVERYBODY on the same floor is definitely awake. Like a bunch of uneducated kids without a teacher in sight! Suggested more than once to put up signs IN THAI LANGUGE in all the hallways to keep quiet. If the CCTV would be equipped with audio both ways the girl decorating the reception downstairs, taking more interest in the dogs, could hear what is going on and tell those noise makers through the same CCTV-audio to be more quiet. Carelessness by hotel guests and hotel operator. So, if you do not want to get woken up - go elsewhere. "

"Great room, clean, very comfortable bed and high quality bedding. The pool is fantastic, huge and clean, and is accessible directly from many of the rooms. I was very surprised to get upgraded to the Pool Access room! The staff is wonderful. The manager, who speaks wonderful English, checked me in personally, and the helpful staff assisted me with my bags to my room. Breakfast is also very good. Nice selection of local and Western food. Good and prompt service at the restaurant, staff always offering me to try local dishes, I kept having to say no because there was already too much (good) food! Location is a little further away from the center, but it's actually very close to many major tourist attractions in Nongkhai. The hotel offers free rental bikes. Service is impeccable. I had some problems getting a last minute flight to Bangkok, and the staff were great in helping me get the tickets and even printed out the confirmation for me. I loved my stay there. Will come back!"

Pantawee Hotel Branch 2

"Stayed here for four nights, as a base for exploring Nongkhai and Udon. This hotel is really old, but quite large, has a few different room options, has a pool, and has a 24 hour restaurant. The people staying at this hotel are a bit of a mixed bunch, with some that are just passing through and only stay the night, while others seem to be staying a bit longer term. The staff were all really friendly and happy to help with anything. The location of the hotel is really good, in a reasonably (for Thailand) quiet location, short stroll to the river and market, and other restaurants, 7-11, shopping etc all nearby. The rooms... are old, and not very soundproof. Bed was okay, aircon worked well (but noisy), room had tv and computer, bathroom had been renovated and had good hot water. Therefore not as nice as a new hotel, but many other factors made up for that. For breakfast, ordering is a-la carte... and you need to specify how you want it cooked or you get runny eggs."

Panlaan Boutique Resort (SHA Extra Plus)

"I had noticed this hotel almost 1 year ago as I live in Nongkhai and thought I must try this hotel one day. Its location is close to the Friendship Bridge and Immigration. It is about a 5-10 minute ride from the centre of Nongkhai and its attractions. The hotel has a swimming pool which is clean and an outside dining area. We stayed in the wooden bungalow which was traditional in Thai style and very clean. The breakfast was good and there is a choice of about five sets of breakfast. The staff are friendly and helpful. The only bad comment I have to make about this hotel is that they are currently building phase 2 of the hotel at the rear of the bungalows and the noise from construction works starts at 08.00am - 18.30pm which is not very good if you want to relax in your room. I believe the construction works will continue until February 2013."

More about Nongkhai

Located in Thailand’s Isaan region on the banks of the Mekong River, Nongkhai is the capital city of Nongkhai Province. The city’s position along the Mekong River gives it the unique beauty, which is accented by the many stunning sculptures and religious statues that are scattered throughout.

Nongkhai is the main gateway from Thailand to Laos, and is therefore served by quite a few local and regional transportation providers. Most of the regional airlines have flights to nearby Udon Thani, and reaching Nongkhai by car or bus is relatively easy to do.

Nongkhai has many attractions which must not be missed, but one of the most popular destinations is Sala Keoku Park. This park is full of massive and bizarre religious sculptures that combine concepts and legends from Buddhism and Hinduism, as well as other sculptures that reflect the artist’s unique perspective. The park is perhaps the most popular destination in Nongkhai, often a favorite among tourists who come from everywhere to see the sculptures.

The Nongkhai Aquarium is probably most famous for the giant catfish that live in the freshwater, but it’s also home to many different ocean species and is a great destination especially for families. The aquarium also has beautiful gardens that are perfect for picnics or relaxed afternoons. There are several hotels near the aquarium, ranging from luxury accommodations to more modest choices.
