Self-drive is the best way to visit Okinawa. The weather in early March is not good. 3 days of our visit are cloudy and rainy days.
Suggest to visit after April.
It can quite disappointing if you come here to shop. It is really more for those who want to enjoy the beaches and water activities.
A nice island, with very remarkable natural scenes such as beaches and cave. People are friendly and speak good English compared with other area of Japan.
It is better to rent a car and drive around different places because the buses are not convenient with limited access.
Okinawa has some nice beaches. Good diving and beautiful offshore islands. The climate is good and it does not get really cold in winter.
If you are expecting beach and shopping together like Bali, this is not the right place to go. But if you just want to relax and look at sea with no disturbance, this is the place for you.
Okinawa is great, much more relaxed than Tokyo. If you want to see and talk to weird but interesting Japanese old people, go to Naminoue beach.
Kokusai-doori has lots of dining and drinking options, such as Yataimura. A little bit pricey though!
beautiful shiny pearl in pacific ocean. i would like to visit again and again to discover more beauty of this island.
Naha is a great place to stay for a short trip, and everything is just perfect in Okinawa. Rent a car and go check around yourself, even you don't speak Japanese, do not be worried, it is very difficult to get lost in this lovely island and actually it is a place you should wonder around.
Naha is a busy city so get yourself ready for the traffic jam. Souri Castle is a 30 minutes tour, for those who have been to Kyoto or Osaka, please do not expect too much.
Overall speaking Okinawa is a good place for sport and beach, not for historical tour. PS: The grilled lobster with sea Uni is awesome.
This is an island with great fun in diving and scuba diving. Weather is very nice in summer. Very relaxed city and the people are friendly.
better start the tour from northern part of Okinawa. must go to the new AEON rycom mall for shopping.
a very children friendly city.
First time being to Okinawa, really nice place for relaxation. Prefer driving on your own, seems like it will be quite far to travel by public transport.
Rethink when you say okinawa is the eastern hawaii. No way! Beaches are shallow , raining or cloudy in summer end of august and beginning of sept.
If you look for deep water to swim and sunshine, you get the wrong place. People dont speak english, makes everything go wrong. No, No, No is the way the okinawa people deal with things, simply because they dont English.
only stay in Naha for 3 nights, it's easy access from airport to Naha city center. only 10 mins walk to the kokusai street.
Okinawa is not a crowd city and we enjoy the atmosphere there. food is ok but it's not very traditional japanese.
It is very easy to go around this island with a car. It is easy to rent a car in the airport. The food is very delicious.
You can go to the fish market to buy fresh products and ask the restaurants to cook it for you with a fee. There is an old palace that is worth a visit. People in Okinawa are pretty friendly and helpful. It is a great place to relax. There is a beautiful aquarium located in the north of the island. The sunset on the bridge connecting 2 islands are wonderful! The sea is pretty clear. The only thing I don't like is that in Japan, it is too safe to enclose the sea as the swimming area. You can only swim inside these areas. It is forbidden to climb on the rocks along the seaside. I had a feeling that I was not swimming in the sea but a swimming pool with salty water!!
The food is good. Better to stay in 2 different hotels, one in central/north area (i.e. Onna, Nago, etc) and one in Naha.
It's not a good idea to drive in Naha.
Okinawa is a great vacation destination. The people are very friendly, the hotel accommodations are great, the food is excellent, shopping is fun, and the major tourist attractions are easily accessible.
Okinawa offers a relaxing and enjoyable experience.
Very clean city, road conditions are good, driver standard is good, I did think taxi fares are expensive.
You must have local currency YEN. Credit cards/visa are not readily accepted unless Japanese cards.
Our 1 st time visited Okinawa , it was really awesome place for having relaxation there by traveling by a car .
Hotel bigger compare with Tokyo and Osaka areas , good place for honeymoon . Can't forget the blue seal ice cream and is a must to try the Salt ice cream.
good combination of nature and history. great beaches for sports and sightseeing while plenty of historical sites
Unfortunately I did not get to get out of the city area, so I hope there are places that are natural and beautiful.
What I saw was a land of concrete with small crowded roads and not much to do.
It gives very different impression as a city in Japan. You can see the different types of buildings in Okinawa due to their past.
Aquarium is very impressive and very nice for family. However, publics transportation is not easy if you stay in resort area.
If you want to have some great food, do some shopping, go to the beaches, or simply hang in the hotel, Okinawa is a great place to go!
Well first of all Okinawa is not a city, it's an island. I strongly recommend to visit the Churaumi Aquarium, which still holds the title for the biggest one in the world.
There are many castles on the island, telling us a lot about the islands rich history. The beautiful beaches also make it an ideal place for swimming and snorkeling.
Go in the right season can enjoy so much of Okinawa natures. It's a super friendly place if you are looking for somewhere to relax.
It is clean and the weather is very comfortable. It is better to drive so as to make it easier to visit the capes and other main attractions like the caves.
The shopping and dining at the Outlet Mall Ashibinaa is good. The Sam's Steak House at Kokusaidori Street is really excellent with the chefs cooking a delicious meal in front of you.
A small and compact city blessed with a mild winter in January and February. The sakura blossoms in Okinawa shows a different kind of beauty and strength (more long lasting against wind and rain) when comparing to the sakura blossoms in the Honshu.
The historical scenic spots are easily accessed, well preserved and managed. A good choice to be in Okinawa during the winter break if pure relaxation is desired.
Great for driving around with rental car. Diving is affordable and the scenic views under water is really great! Friendly city for travelling with kids and senior family members!
A lot of beautiful beaches and natural scenery make you feel wonderful and relaxing. Food are food in both Okinawan and Japanese style.
Driving is convenient to beaches and major good scenery locations. Travelling inside Naha city by monorail and buses is also convenient.
Car rental in Okinawa is cheap, and the cars are brand new, with reasonable price, and good service, one can think about renting a car when they are in Okinawa.
