B2 Phrae Boutique and Budget Hotel
Phrae,Phrae - View on map
"Spotless hotel, located on the Eastern edge of Phrae. Its basic and functional. Undercover parking for bikes at the rear. A choice of restaurants locally withing 15 min walk. However, all of my group noted the shoddy workmanship in the build of the hotel ... sinks installed at an angle, loose toilet cisterns, and in my room No. 712, the shower, despite showing power on, resetting the ELCB, and reducing the flow ... it just wud not get hot. One last gripe ... 500 bht deposit for a electronic key card is taking the piss a bit."

TARIS ART HOTEL PHRAE
Phrae,Phrae - View on map
"Everything is so perfect, except the unfriendly front office girls. They seems they do not want me to book the hotel from Agoda, they said the prices are not that big different, which is around 6 USD. At last, I booked the hotel from agoda, even I wait for the book confirmation to save money and to comment for their service! Later on, I came back to them and ask for the internet password, and they told me with the unfriendly face. But the other departments gave a warm welcome, like security guards, house keepers, and the waiters. No smell on the bed, perfectly clean. I recommend this hotel if you have a chance to visit Phrae, just ignore the service from front office."

Come Moon Loft Hotel
Phrae,Phrae - View on map
"The hotel is located near the main attraction, the major temples and the Vongburi House, but quite a distance from the Pratu Chai (Victory Gate) which is the entrance to town with a night market (I recommend Pan Jai restaurant at a lane before Pratu Chai). The helpful hotel staff insisted that I take a free bicycle in town (even at night to Pratu Chai). The room is very spacious like a five star hotel and is very clean. I am paying budget price for five star hotel stay. And the vicinity of the hotel is very quiet at night. What is most memorable is that the people in Phrae are so friendly! When my spectacle frame broke, the staff recommended me to the road ahead of Pratu Chai to look for an Optician. And indeed there was one, and the kind Optician repaired my spectacles for free. _/|\_. My trip in Phrae is really exceptional because of this awesome and exceptional Come Moon Loft hotel. Thank you. Gingerbread House B&B
Phrae,Phrae - View on map
"I had visited Phrae twice before and stayed at two other hotels. The Gingerbread appealed to me because it was close to the old city just a short walk to the night market and the cluster of shops and restaurants that I had visited before. The Gingerbread has recently been repurposed and imaginatively remodeled. Unknown to me at the time of my booking, it also has an association with a man who has inventoried and gives tours to the amazing array of teak structures in Phrae, once a center of foreign logging concessions in the late 19th and early 20th Century. There is even a gallery on the 2nd floor of the Gingerbread that inventories and describes (in Thai) hundreds of wooden structures in the city. He was very helpful in planning my motorbike visits to many of these. The hotel itself is very pleasant. Breakfasts are outstanding, and the coffee is GREAT! I enjoyed my stay in Phrae and appreciated the helpfulness and hospitality provided by the manager and staff. I'll be back."

PhoomThai Garden Hotel
Phrae,Phrae - View on map
"Phrae is a bit off the beaten track, so one shouldn't expect to see the same high levels of sophistication as in BKK or Chiang Mai. The pace is slower here, but the people are nicer and the prices are cheaper. We found this hotel to be clean and comfortable, staffed by people who are kind and good hearted (ใจดีมาก). We stayed in two different rooms for our 2-night stay, and in both cases, the rooms were clean, in good condition (most hotel beds in Thailand are very firm), and had good amenities. The breakfast buffet, contrary to what some other reviews have said, was excellent, but may intimidate some people who aren't familiar with Thai breakfasts. All of the staff were friendly and kind, and exemplified the very best in Thai customer service. We wanted to tour around the city and surrounding villages -- one of the best parts of Thai domestic tourism -- and the manager gave us a detailed overview of places to go, but never steered us toward any tourist traps. When I was having trouble with my in-room wifi, one extremely kind gentleman (Khun Roon) stopped what he was doing to reboot the wifi servers. Voila! Problem solved. To be honest, we were so charmed by the staff that we brought them back some food treats when we went to the night market/food stalls, The garden area is nice for breakfast, and you could linger as long as you wanted without feeling hurried or crowded. But you need to beware of mosquitos if you hang out there in the evening. "

Phrae Nakara Hotel
Phrae,Phrae - View on map
"Was the best hotel and least expensive we stayed in during our trip around Kamphaeng Phet, Lampang, Phrae and Petchabun. Room (standard twin) was big, clean and had everything we needed. Breakfast had many choices and was always well kept. Our room, including breakfast was less than a USA Jackson per night. Staff was great, plenty of parking and a very good location. The night club noise wasn't heard in our room on the opposite side of the building. The only "head scratcher" is why have they mounted the shower head well below shoulder level of a 5' 6" person? Even to use the handheld shower head, you have to bend down to wash your hair. That's the only gripe."

More about Phrae

Located on the banks of the Yom River in the northern river valleys of Thailand, Phrae is an old and historic town with one of the largest collection of collection of Teak houses and a teak forests in the country.

There are regularly scheduled flights from Bangkok’s regional airport, arriving at Phrae Airport which is then accessible by local transportation. From cities in the north, like Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai, the easiest way to reach Phrae would be by local bus or rental car, although taking the trail affords the opportunity to see the stunning country sides of northern Thailand while traveling.

Once in Phrae, exploring by foot or the local transportation of motorcycle taxis of city bus is the easiest way to see some of the oldest Teak houses in the country, including Khum Chao Luang, the house where the King and Queen once stayed. There are an impressive number of historic buildings and places in Phrae, so ask the local staff for access to a map of all the historic buildings, and get to exploring. It’s a great way to spend at least one day in this town.

While exploring around Phrae, get some natural scenery at Phae Muang Phee Royal Park and then stop by the local temple Wat Prathat Cho Hae and observe how the temples in these small towns are often the center of the community. While in the neighborhood, explore the local market and pick up some souvenirs as reminders of this town that seems to almost be stuck in time.

This unique and historic city has a lot to offer to each visitor, and the best way to see what else Phrae has in terms attractions, landmarks, and hotels is exploring the interactive map on this page.
