I guess it was a wrong choice to visit Phuket city as there wasn't much to explore within city and considering the fact the places that we wanted to visit were situated far away from our hotel and taxi fares were too expensive.
We visited Tiger Kingdom, Trick Eye Museum, Phi Phi Island, a bit of shopping at City Centre, Thalang, etc. May be next time if I come to visit Phuket, I'd prefer to stay at Patong beach instead.
Truth be known even though both of the hotels I stayed at were clean and comfortable, I doubt I will ever return to Phuket.
The beaches are amazing, but there is garbage everywhere, and with the exeption of a few taxis, Tuk Tuks and restaraunts, the shopping and taxis at the Airport is way over-priced. It is more expensive than just about everywhere else I visited, although the soup I got from the vendor stand across the alley from the family mart (accross the street and to the left from the airport) was some of the best soup I had in Thailand.
Phuket is blessed with many beautiful beaches and islands nearby. It also have good facilities and amenities.
Very attractive to visitors.
Phuket is land of excellent beaches. There are lots of activities to be done like elephant trekking,go-karting,bunjee jumping.
Phuket Town just barely functions....Traffic on the whole island is a nightmare...very crowded place.
..here twice..getting worse..?Won't be back...Think they may be killing the goose that laid the golden egg !!!
Phuket is blessed by serene ambience & sunny beaches. Attractions like Krebi, Phang na Phi Phi etc keep you spell bound!
Beautiful city with lovely and much needed cleaning beaches.Have lovely bars and seafood restaurants.
quite commercialise but that is why is more happening place compare to other stand alone islands. price getting higher compare to smaller town in thailand.
People visit Phuket because of beaches. Not much comment at Phuket city as only spend short period of time there.
We've stayed at 2 hotels in Phuket one is in Patong and the other one is in Laguna. The difference about the two is that Patong would cater more from the young adults to a more mature crowd, who wanted to party and experience the local food.
As for Laguna this would cater to families and business men as this is more laid back and more on the upper class as it's a little bit more expensive than the usual hotels in Patong.
You love it or not. You can go for partying or with your family and enjoy a calm stay with enjoying the Thai kindness.
Phuket has many amusement parks and natural surrounding with a lot of cultural history and backgrounds connected with it.
Phuket, the city for everybody. Beach, Jungle, Town, all in one. You can go for day trip to the beach and sea for snorkling or scuba.
Very nice clear water during high season. U can also see the jungle within, via elephant or atv or flying fox. There's even bungee jumping. The town have lots of shop for shoping and restaurant is on every street. Thailand Food is just to die for! Complete package for a place to go. And the price is also cheap, below average i might say. When u interact with the people here, u dont want togo home. Thai people is the soft type. Enjoy phukett!!~
Phuket is full of fun, Atv, flying hanuman, water park, spas, restaurants, water sports, shopping, beaches.
Place for party oriented people or for people planning to spend time only on the beach. For family vacation, I preferred Ao Nang and Phi Phi.
I did not had the opportunity to visit Ko Lanta but have heard that it is a very peaceful place as well. Again, this is all based on my preference for a quitter vacation place. Phuket is way too commercial for my taste
A great place to stay, excellent food, beautiful beaches and water activities. A bit on the primitive side so this may not be for everyone and could be challenging for young families - although many Europeans were there with their families.
It's a long trip for Americans so not worth it unless you can stay for 1-2 weeks. I hope to come back soon :)
There are many places to visit for shopping, eating and sight seeing. It is best to rent a car so that you can travel to any place you like.
Phuket is expensive for Malaysian as most of the things there are expensive. The food is extremely expensive coz they treat us like we are from UK or US.
So try to reduce food intake but everything else in Phuket is good.
Small and easy to travel around without fear of getting too lost! Worth a visit for a relaxing, short trip (:
Phuket is a nice place with nice beaches. Lots of shopping can be done here and lots of eating places to from.
But it is way too crowded. I prefer Krabi then Phuket.
The food and shopping at Patong Beach area is too pricey. I was surprised to find the price of food is equivalent or more expensive than Singapore.
Rolled ice-cream cost S$4 and is not value for money. The cornetto ice cream I bought from the numerous convenience stores were more tasty and cheaper.
If we talk about Phuket town only i reccomend to stay in town for a few days. Old centre is unic, so narrow and cute streets, many cute restorans with a delicios food and special atmosphere.
Its very far from the beaches. If you want to swim you need take some trips to the islands, but in other places of Phuket you cant see the history
bangla road is interesting but not for young nor older children but makes for a fun night out with friends.
just don't get so inebriated that you forget where you are like everywhere else in the world. one should not go to parks where tigers and elephants (and other wild animals) are exploited. Shopping is good for half a day and the massages are so cheap. Thai people are really lovely and the whole destination is tourism-centric. Phuket airport is a bit un-cordinated but its still a comfortable airport even though it is old
an excellent holiday destination with something for everyone.. by far the biggest drawback on phuket is the extortionate price of taxis and tuk-tuks.
. even grabtaxi is relatively expensive but by far the safest and easiest way to travel around..
it's a great place for a holiday.. don't use taxis without meters or tuk-tuks.. grabtaxi now available- use instead
Staying mainly in the Patong district, would recommend for the nightlife and eating. Transport to the tourist areas ie.
elephant farms, snake show and monkey school requires tuk tuk or taxi hire but the prices are still reasonable after the obligatory haggling. Travelling there in May the conditions were very hot and steamy, temps around 32 - 34 degrees.
Get the wifi sim card at the airport to give you a sense of security when traveling Get a hotel near patong beach, theres where all the best attractions and activities are Those packages that you sign up for to visit the islands, you can bargain for cheaper rates, but as you are there to relax and enjoy the nightlife, don't sign up.
bus leave at 7.30am, lots of waiting time. Too commercialised. Gotta visit bangla road, every night while you are there. Visit No. 6 Restaurant for the best thai food. I had all my meals there. Fast food is expensive over there Massage is damn cheap. Do it everyday
Very commercial. Pleople are not so friendly when you try to bargain to have the price you know you should have - some of them seem to think that you've never lived or travelled before and they are quite condescending and laugh in your face.
Weird for such a touristy place. I couldnt wait to get out of phuket. Hopefully Thailand has much more to offer than that!
A more culturally diverse group is now visiting Phuket, since the Ruble has declined significantly in value.
The taxi drivers seem to be more friendly also. Lots of Burmese now man the market stores, and come across a less friendly than the Thais. There are still not beach chairs for hire on the beaches since the government clamped down on corruption with regard to licensing of operators. Some beach mattresses are available however in some limited areas. good to use Phuket as a base to visit outer islands like Raya, Phi Phi, Bamboo, Koh Phang Nga and Koh Kai.
Great Hospitality, Great Preservation of Culture, Hot bodies at Patong Beach :), Great Foods, Cheaper Stuff, Great Entertainment.
