Found on South Korea’s east coast, Pohang is a major industrial city. It is home to one of the world’s largest steel companies, a highly ranked university, and one of the country’s most popular fresh fish markets. Pohang Airport
accepts domestic flights, serving as a gateway to the city.
One of Pohang’s most noticeable landmarks is POSCO. At night, the company turns on multicolored lights, creating an eye-catching display. Across a small inlet from POSCO’s steel mill is Songdo Beach, a popular area for windsurfers. For swimming, head out to Chilpo Beach, Wolpo Beach, or Guryongpo Beach. A trip to the small fishing village of Homigot is a popular adventure for many a traveler to Pohang. A massive bronze structure of a hand reaching up from the water draws many a photographer. The cove it is located in is famed itself for being the easternmost point of Korea, also known as Tiger’s Tail, meaning it is here that you can catch the sunrise before anyone else. A second bronze hand can be seen reaching out of the ground of Homigot Sunrise Square
