Where to stay in Porto
Porto hotels & accommodations

It was more than a pleasant stay at the hotel. We had personalised messages and little gifts by the manager to welcome us at the room. The staff was not only helpful but courteous and warm. They always made us feel as if we were the VIPs. We were presented with flowers at check-in and that made our day! The room was very comfortable, immaculate and posh. Whatever amen...

The Vincci Porto Hotel was lovely, set right on the river. There is a beautiful bridge you can see when you walk out the front door, we called it "our bridge." There is also a supermarket next door with an ATM, very convenient. It was about a 12-15 minute leisurely walk to get to the Ponte Luiz area, but along the way there are restaurants and people out and about...

We love the location of the hotel. Our room has a view to the Douro river, Dom Luis I Bridge, and the square. It was so nice to see sun set and sun rise through the window. We also saw double rainbow. It was amazing. The hotel staffs are wonderful. They go extra mile to reserve restaurant tables for us. My daughter had a 2 hour facial and massage. She really loved ...

Pros - Fantastic location, lovely staff, good breakfast. The room was minimalist style dominated by the artist themed wall mural but had everything needed. Cons- due to heritage frontage, the river view rooms with the exception of the couple with French doors, only had small windows so you had to stand at the window to enjoy the view. The windows opened which was nice...

+ Very large room. + Clean and comfortable. + Provide every things you need for kitchenware. + Excellent location at the perfect spot for porto river view and walking tour. + Well maintain. + Has elevator, so you can take large luggages. + Paid parking is near by, at walking distance. - Breakfast is made to order (which need time to prepare and serve) - As it is in ...

Firstly, chose the hotel due to proximity from Metro Heroismo (literally 50m away) & Campanha (for our train ride to Lisbon next day). Modern facade, newly constructed (seems to be) both interior & exterior. Option for online check in is available (techy). Staff are friendly & hospitable (Portuguese trait?!). Room is spacious, toiletries included, no kettle for tea & a...

Pros: - not too far out from Porto Sao Bento station. (Probably about 10-minute walk though there's a gentle up-slope though might have to factor into consideration there are quite a number of slopes at porto) - convenient location to get to surrounding places of interest, dining and shopping places. - have a small gym that I can squeeze in a 30-min training - helpful ...

This was by far the best hostel I have ever stayed at! It feels like a boutique hotel with (very clean) hostel bedrooms. The staff was friendly and helpful. They were genuinely interested in their guests and enjoyed sharing their culture. This hostel is in a great location. They also offer a delicious and cheap dinner that creates a sense of community in this lovely ...

The appartment was in the center of everything very comfortably with children , Rui the owner met us and prepare a bad for a baby and even prepared a toys for a baby . ..Explain us were the best plays to go The appartment very good and clean we felt like home . I am surely will come t

This hotel is really cozy close to the Clerige Church. The room was clean and the personal were really nice. As welcome drink we got wine and some home made liquor which was really delicious.. If I come back again to Porto. I will definitely stay at this hotel. Thanks

Very clean . Friendly staff . Very good location close to the river but the city as well. Relaxed and comfortable atmosphere. Very good breakfast included in the price. Hanging solution needed in the room and also a tiny bit of decoration as well would be nice. Everything was great, even though I noticed that the hostel level in the center of porto is quite high as...

Super hotel near to metro and old city. Hotel is really clean, pool, turk bath and sauna are really great. Staff is really willing to help and smiling. I got problem with a window and it got fixed within an hour. Only downside is the price otherwise I would have stayed my hole time in Porto there.

This hotel was perfect for our short break in Porto. About 5 minutes away from the metro to get to busy parts of Porto. Nearby the hotel there is a great centre with little bars and deli's so you can sit out in the sun and enjoy the produce. We would stay again

Apartment is well fitted out and very close to main line metro (3 mins walk ) owner indalina is very helpful, the only drawback with this place is there is major construction right out the front. There was an industrial drill rig drilling deep foundations right out the front but this only happens between 8.30-5pm not on weekends and will probably finish in the next mon...

Booked a romantic getaway for me and my partner, thinking that the deluxe private balcony double room would be the perfect place to stay. Unfortunately, the space and layout of the room meant that it was difficult to relax. We are slim, fit, regular sized people and the space was too small for us to move easily in the room. Property not as advertised.

Were on a business trip, and stayed at the hotel for two nights. Nice clean rooms, friendly and helpful staff that both helped us order dinner at a nice restaurant, and also helped us find an IPhone that we had misplaced in a taxi - we really appreciated the effort and service the staff at the front desk showed us in this episode. The hotel is located a bit outside of ...

We stayed in HF Ipanema Porto Hotel for one night which was located about 3 Kms from the Porto city centre. The room was spacious, clean and neat with upgraded facilities. The front desk staff was very friendly and helpful. It was in walking distance to the nearby shopping centre and food market where you could purchase all kind of local food and drinks. Although n...

As with most multiple apartment owners, the check in was clumsy, having to call the number to arrange a meeting to find the apartment. No greeting at the assigned address. But, with some help from a local who happened by, the greeter arrived in about 10 minutes, filed the paperwork and walked us a couple of blocks in a rain storm to the apartment. Otherwise, very ni...
Cheap places to stay in Porto

It was an amazing stay with such a clean and well-maintained room despite having 12 beds. There were enough amenities such as power stations and also sufficient bathing cubicles. Receptionist was really friendly and helpful as well. For such a wallet-friendly price, Oporto City Hostel definitely exceeded my expectations. Besides, there are many eateries around with aff...

Enjoyed my stay - very comfortable, quiet, safe and convenient location (5 minutes walk to Renex Express bus office to Lisbon). Check-in time is rigidly set at 3 pm. 50 Euro cash deposit is required upon check in for the apartment booking. Overall, highly recommended.

Just returned from a 4 night stay at Dear Porto Guest House. It was spotlessly clean, with super friendly staff and in a good location. We had breakfast each morning and for 4 Euros it was a good start to the day. We had a room on the second floor with a small balcony overlooking the road, the sun streamed in through the french doors late afternoon , early evening and...

One of the best guest house or hostel experiences we've had. This place is in a great location, and Pedro really helped us out when we checked in by giving us a map and pointing out a bunch of great spots. Bathroom was really nice, plus there's a decent kitchen, and Wi-Fi of course. Since it's on a busy corner, it can get noisy at night. We always travel with ear plugs...

I had an amazing stay, the room was big and comfortable, with a private bathroom. Excellent cleanliness. The price is affordable, good value for money even in high season. It is well-located very near a bus stop where you can get the bus for the city centre which is not far. There are also supermarkets, bakeries and restaurants nearby. It is a family-owned place and th...

They just changed our towels and did not clean the room...you can see some built up dust particles. Receptionist was not too pleasant. A bit troublesome if you plan to arrive or leave the hostel too early or too late since they lock the main door. You have to ring the reception bell and you will notice that they will not be happy coz you disturbed their sleep. Ventil...

Liked it so much came back for end of our holiday to stay again. Good size rooms with air con. Bathroom had shower and bath as i prefer a bath it was great for me. The hotel is located not far from the city centre about 15-20 minutes walk, some grocery shops are nearby, they have their own garage but not sure about if it is free, one of the things I like and always look for at hotel is free wi-fi and they have it, staff is very friendly and helpful. rooms are reasonable size and cleaned daily and it is value for money, i would re...

Love this place -- very romantic -- love the stone walls, the bed was comfy. (Only bad thing -- there was mold in the bathroom) The ambiance gives the place such a great feeling. The location is great -- one street over from all the action, so it's not too loud at night when you are trying to go to sleep. Great because you can walk 1 or 2 blocks over for the night l...

Helpful customer service & give a lot of advise. Guest house locate not city center but a lot of buses are available. 20 mins walking to Livraria Lello & churches. Bedroom with nice bathroom, air condition, fringe & TV. Very clean & tidy. Luggage stockage is available. Must book if u come to Porto.

I had a good short stay at Lusitana. The staff was very helpful - Helped me with suitcase, helped me with a very early check-out at 4:30am, etc. The room was also comfortable - everything I needed at a great price. It's just a short walk from the main attractions and train station.

The bed is quite comfortable and the location is great, lots of restaurants nearby and sightseeing points are in walking distance, slightly concerned about the bathroom as there are some mould in the bathroom floor, and the hot water is not hot enough.

The location was good, katrina and patricia were very kind and friendly. The room we stayed on First floor was clean but I could hear the sound from the room nearby. That was the only thing I did not like. I was tired and fell asleep soon but if you are unlucky you can be bothered by noise .

This small place with only a few bedrooms (approximately 5-7), which are are small, but clean, is located right in the center of the old part of he city. It is more or less a private guesthouse operated by an older lady (speaking French) and her son (who has a very good skill of the English language. A few minutes away you'll find small local restaurants with excellent...

Even though this hostel is situated in the old-old part of the city and it takes a solid 30 minutes to get to the center of the old town, it was worth the stay. Manager was very friendly, did a map of Porto for us with highlights of the must see places in the city. The room was cleaned every day and housekeeping never bothered us, while we were in the room. Susana and Antonio were fantastic. The facilities were beautiful and had a nice comfy feeling. Everything was neat and very clean. The staff was friendly and helpful. Susana helped us get oriented on the city and it's sights. She called to get my airline tickets home all set so I didn't have to worry about check in. We left very early in the morning, I mean very ear...

In the quiet part of the old town, pleasant with great little cafes for food, and a supermarket streets away. Just a short walk and you hit the Riberia. Great fruit store at low prices 20 meters away from the apartment. As for the room itself, the television set did not have sound but it was ok because we don't watch much television. The walls were not soundproof so we...

We loved Porto and we loved Tim's flat. He was there to greet us and help us with our luggage. Unfortunately we had no Wifi during our stay but this was nothing to do with the flat but with external matters. The flat was spotless and in a great location close to the many wonderful attractions of Porto.

We loved the Belomonte, particularly Joana's friendliness and hospitality, and the marvellous breakfast each morning. Location is perfect for restaurants, bars and sightseeing, but is also feels quiet and tucked-away. Room was luxurious and bright. Would definitely return

WE LOVED STAY IN APARTMENTS! FROM THE EASY CHECK IN (THANK RICARDO!) TO THE CLEAN AND MODERN MEETS OLD WORLD APT, TO THE LOCATION RIGHT IN THE MIDDLE OF THE RIBERIA ACTION AND ABOVE AN AUTHENTIC DINER...THIS PLACE WAS THE BEST! HAD EVERYTHING WE NEEDED EXCEPT SOAP FOR THE SINKS...WHICH WE BOUGHT FOR 80 CENTS. NO BIGGIE! RICARDO ALSO CAME THROUGH AND SECURED A RIDE ...

This was an absolute joy - the staff could not be friendlier and more helpful. We were in the main house and if you want coffee or tea then all you need to do is to ask. Breakfast is plentiful. Staff are available until 10pm. We enjoyed a bottle of wine (with nibbles) each evening sitting in the garden which is very tranquil. Highly recommended!

The apartment and all facilities are super clean and made up in a cute way. I loved the location, easy to explore all of Porto by foot from there and lots of nice restaurants and bars and little shops around it. Also the view is great. Definitely Value for Money in that regard. However, its an old building, and quite noisy especially if your neighbours (as in the peop...

we stayed here for 2 nights in september 2012. it was a fantastically located hotel, 10 minutes walk to the river, the bridge and the furnicular. it is up the slope so you can walk down and take the furnicular back for your day out (hills can't be avoided much in porto). the rooms were big and comfortable and the prices really reasonable at the bar for a night cap and ...

The staff at the front desk was curt and rigid. After a long day of travelling I woudl have been nice to be warmly received. Instead it was a very cold reception with little care for our business. Almost as if, the hotel is so upscale that they have forgotten the whole point of why they are in business.

Nice town. Charming. Welcoming people. Nice panoramas. Porto caves to visit (did the one of Calem, which was satisfactory).
Small. But got lots of things to see. Beautiful, relaxing. The food and the night life is very good!!!
Great town with really nice wine cellars (Port wine!!!!!). Just remember, go to the ones with Portuguese name.
Porto is one of the prettiest cities when the sun is up. The kind of run down and colorful houses along the Douro river just make the perfect picture.
how can i write a bad review from my hometown :) Porto is an world heritage city with mediavel strets.
Porto is slight under presented as a tourist spot but it has lots to offer. The best thing about this city is its view and wine cellars.
Porto is a wonderful city. The river area and the view of the city built up on the hills around the river is absolutely beautiful.
The weather in early September was wonderful. We probably enjoyed the river front and the sea front areas the most though the trip up the Douro was also wonderful - we took the train both ways and were not disappointed.
Lovely city, a lot of culture and history combined with good, cheap drinks and foods served by friendly locals.
Porto was amazing - looks very historical. All tourist attractions were within walking distance and we managed to stumble upon a quiet hilltop with an amazing view of the city.
I was amazed how wonderful this city was, having travelled a lot . The people were so friendly. We went on the tour bus, on the river and then the cable car.
You can visit a popular old bookshop in Porto. The staircase is very special but you are not allowed to take photos there.
Nice little town. Can get around easily using metro. People are friendly but majority don't speak English.

Discover the Charms of Porto Portugal
Porto, Portugal’s second-largest city, is a captivating blend of rich history, stunning architecture, and vibrant culture. As you wander through its cobbled streets, you’ll be greeted by the stunning azulejos (ceramic tiles) that adorn many buildings, telling stories of the past. The iconic Ribeira district, with its colorful facades lining the Douro River, invites visitors to soak in the lively atmosphere, where street performers and cafes create a delightful ambiance. Porto is not just a city; it's an experience that enchants every traveler with its unique charm.
One of the most enchanting features of Porto is its remarkable bridges, particularly the Dom Luís I Bridge, a marvel of 19th-century engineering. This double-deck iron bridge offers breathtaking views of the city and river below, making it a popular spot for photographers and romantics alike. The city’s rich maritime heritage is celebrated at the Museu do Porto, where you can delve into the fascinating history of the region’s seafaring past. Whether you’re an art lover, a history buff, or simply seeking a picturesque getaway, Porto has something special for everyone.
In addition to its historic sites, Porto boasts a thriving culinary scene that reflects the city’s cultural diversity. From traditional *francesinha* sandwiches to exquisite port wine tastings, your taste buds are in for a treat. Local markets, such as Mercado Bom Sucesso, offer a taste of authentic Portuguese cuisine, where you can sample fresh produce, cheeses, and baked goods. Porto is a city that invites exploration, encouraging visitors to discover its hidden gems and experience the warmth of its people.
When to Experience Porto at Its Best
Timing your visit to Porto can greatly enhance your experience. The city enjoys a Mediterranean climate, with warm summers and mild winters. The best times to visit are during spring (April to June) and early autumn (September to October) when the weather is pleasantly warm, and the crowds are fewer. Spring brings blooming flowers and vibrant festivals, while autumn showcases the grape harvest, celebrated with wine festivals that are a must-see.
Summer (July to August) is peak tourist season, attracting visitors eager to enjoy Porto's lively atmosphere, outdoor cafes, and beach outings. However, be prepared for higher accommodation prices and larger crowds. Winter, while quieter, offers a unique charm with festive decorations and holiday markets, making it an ideal time for those who enjoy a more relaxed pace. Regardless of when you choose to visit, Porto’s allure is undeniable.
Throughout the year, Porto hosts a variety of festivals that celebrate its culture and traditions. The São João Festival in June is a highlight, featuring fireworks, music, and the iconic tradition of hitting friends and family on the head with plastic hammers. This lively celebration is an excellent opportunity to immerse yourself in local customs and enjoy the festive spirit. Each season in Porto brings its own unique flavor, ensuring that there’s always something special happening in this charming city.
