"On the internet i was charged $33.15 but when I reached there it turned out to be $70.00 per night. For that price I could have stayed at a 5star hotel."

"This hotel is a real family hotel with the beach at the opposite of the street. Close to the Hotel you will find various places to eat or just to take a drink. Please watch your belongings!! I was sitting on a terrace one day and took out my sneakers under the table (it was hot). While talking a boy took one of my sneakers away and when I found out that I had only one shoe left, people offerd me help to buy my shoe back. I had to laugh about it and had to pay €10,-. Brazil is a beautifull but with surprises!! "

"Very nice and quiet hotel in a bohemian neighborhood in Salvador. It was a bit difficult to find and get to by car due to the many road construction sites all around (Nov.2015). The hotel provided parking which was a plus. Breakfast was excellent with a combination of buffet and a la carte. The rooms are nice but not awesome. We would not hesitate to come back. TIP: we walked to the Casa de Teresa restaurant which is highly recommended. Order a moqueca!"

Traveler impressions of Salvador

More about Salvador

There's no other city in South America that's quite like Salvador. Beautiful colonial districts are a common enough site in Brazil, but here in Salvador they're magnificently well-preserved. This combined with world-class beaches, modern shopping options and a few lively entertainment districts make Salvador one of the best holiday destinations on the continent.

Salvador sits squarely on the Bahia coastline, an area known for ample sunshine and great surfing conditions. Surfers of the itinerant variety come with board in tow, but everyday tourists can join in by renting a board or signing for a couple of surf lessons. The Guinness Book of World Records considers the local Carnival celebration to be the world's biggest, and hotels in Salvador are busiest at this time. .

Plenty of more mainstream activities are on the agenda. Salvador's historic quarter, Pelourinho, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site overflowing with beautiful churches and houses that date to the 17th century. Leading the way is the Catedral Basilica and the adjoining Atiga Faculdade de Medicina. The latter is a museum that explores the role that early slave laborers from Africa played in Salvador's heritage.

In fact, one of Salvador's most exciting aspects is its rich Afro-Brazilian culture. African influence factors heavily into the local cuisine, giving way to a kind of culinary fusion found nowhere else in the world. Local music is just as exciting, and there are many excellent performance venues lining Pelourinho's cobblestone streets. .

Salvador's Deputado Luís Eduardo Magalhães International Airport is well-connected to the North America and Europe. It's relatively far from town and has its own hotels district. The best way to reach accommodation in Salvador from the airport is by prepaid taxi.
