SEESEA RESORT

"We booked for 1 night through Agoda, and decided to extend our stay. It is a relatively new hotel, so there are still some construction being done around the hotel, but it doesn't bother us at all. It was raining when we stayed there, so decided just to stay in and laze around the hotel. The hotel does have direct access to the beach, however, I wouldn't recommend it for swimming. The beach area was not kept well, lots of broken glass bottle. please put on your shoes while walking on the sand. the breakfast buffet was adequate. Good food and we really enjoyed it. The area is very quiet at night so you will get a good rest there. "

Royal Hill Satun Hotel (SHA Plus+)
Pakbara,Satun - View on map
"I travelled with my spouse, my mother and my 4 months old daughter. This hotel is probably the best accommodation Pakbara could offer. We really enjoyed our stay here. Pros : - The scenery from this hotel is magnificent. Seaview room offers scenic sights overseeing Pakbara beach and the islands while on the outside you could view the valley. The sunset is magnificent! - Hotel is new, super clean, and the staff are very helpful. - Food and massage service is affordable. The food is nice too. - Carpark is available and this is very important as I drove from KL to Pakbara using my own vehicle. Cons : - The biggest drawback of this hotel is there was no direct elevator access to our Seaview room. There is a lot of staircase to get to our room. Not really elderly or handicapped people friendly. - 7 eleven and town is about 5km away and it is non-walkable. Not an issue as we have our own car"

Best House Resort (SHA Extra Plus)
Pakbara,Satun - View on map
"The guys at Best house saved our butts, we got stranded an hour away in Satun and apparently all the taxis decided to stop running at 5pm. We managed to borrow someone's phone and called the hotel, they sent someone over ASAP and picked us up!! (For cheap). The guy was really nice, then they upgraded the room for us, gave us a free lift to and from some street stalls up the road and then sorted our ferry out, couldn't have asked for more. It's also a 2 minute walk from the ferry terminal, and that's what we really needed. Perfect place for crashing a night before or after a ferry, and fantastic value for money. Thanks guys!"

Lake Terrace Resort

"Hotel staff picked us up at the Jetty. The room with a balcony facing the see was spotless and spacious. The coffee shop served excellent very spicy food. It is rather sterile but we discovered on day 2 we could sit outside in the garden. Rented a very cheap motor bike from hotel to explore the waterfall. Front desk was helpful even though English was limited. Pak Bara is not a destination but if you lay over here on your way from Ko Lipe this is the place to stay."

The One Boutique Hotel
City Center,Satun - View on map
"Located in the northern half of Satun, about a 25 minute drive from the Langkawi ferry. On the way there we got a ride in a local bus for RM50 per person, on the way back reception could have booked a private taxi for RM300, we flagged down a bus after only a 10 minute wait for RM100 per person, no bargaining. A very new and well maintained hotel, modern rooms and facilities. About 30 minutes walk from more central Satun, though there are lots of small places on the way. Ti Baan restaurant is by far the best food in Satun and is 35 minutes slow walk. For a more budget option for backpackers we were shown Ons Guesthouse which would have been fine, One Boutique is a few levels above this. Staff are nice, limited english for some but clearly learning and trying hard. "

Traveler impressions of Satun

More about Satun

In the far south of Thailand, Satun is a laid-back coastal village near the border with Malaysia. It’s a popular last stop en route to the Malaysian resort island of Langkawi. As far as tourists in Thailand are concerned, Satun is interesting due to its sprinkling of Sino-Portuguese architecture and its inviting beach.

Accommodation in Satun consists mostly of budget bungalows with basic facilities, but there are plenty of mid-range options. The major appeal of booking a room in Satun is the chance to explore nearby Thale Ban National Park and the outlying coastline. Local tour operators specialize in ecotourism.

One of the most popular attractions near Satun town is Ku Den Museum. It's housed in an old mansion that was built to accommodate King Rama V when he visited the region in the early 1900s. This king was famous for embracing Western modernization, and the house's architecture is vaguely European. Other attractions in Satun include Mambang Satul Mosque and Chanathipchaloem Buddhist temple.

Most visitors just stay one night at hotels in Satun town before heading out to Lipe Island, the biggest tourist draw in the region. The island's mountainous interior is ringed with sandy beaches, which are developing a tidy community of easy-going resorts. Several hundred chao leh or 'sea gypsies' enjoy a moderate degree of autonomy here, and their villages are primary attractions.

The nearest airport to Satun is in Hat Yai. Tourists from elsewhere in Thailand fly from Bangkok to Hat Yai and connect by bus to Satun. Otherwise, the easiest way in or out is by sea via Tammalang pier. Ferries to Langkawi take about 90 minutes to arrive.
