More about Shizuoka

Shizuoka is set halfway between Tokyo and Nagoya and is the capital of its prefecture. The main city center is located around Shizuoka Station, a popular point of entry via the Tokaido Shinkansen line. Buses unload passengers here from Mt. Fuji Shizuoka Airport. Travelers come well-known teas cultivated here as well as the incredible views of Mt. Fuji.

Shizuoka gained prosperity thanks to attention from the Tokugawa Dynasty. The founder of the Tokugawa Shogunate established the local Sumpu Castle as his retirement home, and his original burial site is located at Kunozan Tosho-gu. A nearby children’s park and a garden with a tea ceremony make this a great place to explore with family. The natural splendor of the region is also an attractive draw for travelers. Miho Beach is made up of small stones rather than sand and is dressed with pine trees. Views of Mt. Fuji coupled with the water and foliage set the scene for the walking and cycling trails found here. Another incredible view of Mt. Fuji can be had from Shimizu Port, an area that was a city of its own in 2003 until it was incorporated into Shizuoka. If views of this incredible natural wonder aren’t enough to satisfy your excitement, the mountain is only 80km to the west of the city.
