Sihanoukville is perfect place for you IF you dont mind other tourists, crowded tourist places, rich tourists who love to spend crazy amount money, (therefore) greedy locals, streets full of bikini girls and shirtless men who are searching for those bikini girls, horrible restauranst full of greazy pizzas and burgers and fat western people eating that robbish.
But if you like get knowing cultur, meet honest local people, see beautiful landscapes, see peacefull beaches and taste local food this is NOT place for you. But if you accidentally get to sihanoukville or if you are in cambodia and really want to be near to the turquoise sea you need to find nice place to stay far away from the city and we recommend that you rent a bike. By bike you can go different places, see friendly local peoples in small villages or perhaps you can even find peacefull spot from the beach where you can enjoy the view all by yourself.
its a great vacation not expensive if u shop hotel prices on agoda people are friendly , ignore all the begging Cambodian children and adults some good places to eat and some amazing beaches, scooters are cheap to rent get a tourist map and scooter skip the tuktuk's the drivers are greedy but if u do take a tuktuk negotiate the price before you get in it.
same as all things you purchase negotiate the price often you can buy for much less then they are asking, don't be afraid to walk away they will call u back and accept your price most of the times
I would recommend the place for the well travelled or seasoned traveller, you can find some gems in Sihanoukville, like beaches, bars, restaurants, jump on a bike and explore but would not recommend it for the lesser travelled person as there are pitfalls and a roughness to the place and one has to be on its guard
We stayed at Otres 1 beach which is one of the least developed beaches and was still quite busy. It was the slow season! You probably need to stay at least one night but I would recommend getting out to the islands as soon as possible.
They are gorgeous
Love the beaches and the night life in Sihanoukville. I have been in peak and off peak seasons and the place although quiet in off peak is still a fabulous venue to relax and enjoy Cambodian food and hospitality
For the vegan set, there are a few places to eat at. DAO of Life is Cambodia's only truly vegan cafe, even though there are loads of others that will describe themselves as vegan, they tend to serve meat too.
Bamboo Bar is a vegetarian bar/restaurant just near Serendipity beach and they cater for Vegans and are well aware of the concept, so the food there is also good. If you're not into the whole party all night sleep the hangover away on the beach during the day, I'd recommend to stay away from the main beaches as that is what it appears like on the surface.
I have been coming to Sihanoukville for 16 years but haven't been for the past 2 or 3 years. Now it seemed dirtier, seedy-er than before with trash on the streets, rough roads, broken foot paths, curbs, etc.
watch out when on the beach.... you will be surrounded by cute kids trying to sell you things... also there is a one armed man who will walk around begging usually in military fatigues.
He is one of the ring leaders of a gang... he will approach you and scan to see if you have bag or anything of value that can be swiped. If you do you will be surrounded by kids who will distract you while they pinch your things. BE AWARE VERY AWARE...
okay to spend a couple days but best as a 'launching off point' for the surrounding islands unless you are looking to party with back packers and mongerers.
its a very beautiful and relaxing place but overpriced ! The service at restaurants by the beach extremely slow ,disorganised ,very poor for what u pay .
a lot of nice beaches with enough hotels ranging from cheap guest house to very luxurious hotel. Island hopping and snorkering to the nearby island.
Not the place for me & my wife we are 65 this place is full of kids loud music bars& gambling all so run by Russians with a corrupt police force
Very Sleezy but also good fun. On the beach in Serendepity its very grim at night with massive bass speakers and drunks, begging kids, drugs.
Otres is really good so get a moped and go there for a bit more class and better white beaches. Lot of theft so be careful. Its a bit like Benidorm for Cambodia ie sleezy etc but good fun. Its good for 3 days before or after heading to Koh Rong Samloem.
This place is a bit of a party town with many bars and restaurants around. The food in general is pretty good and the locals are friendly.
It does get a bit annoying being offered a Tuk Tuk every five minutes but I suppose this is common in most places. I would visit with a group of friends or with a partner.
its a great little town - can get almost anything your heart desires. Still unspoilt - not too many tourists - but far too many casinos.
It is a place where we could just move there and live one day. If you like beach, it is definitely a place and explore Islands fishing.
It is interesting beach, try the local food on the street especially BBQ beef serviced with fresh vegetables under ice - it is amazing
Going to Sihanoukville is the fastest, cheapest, and most exciting thing to do if you want to escape your busy life in the city.
The beaches are clean and the food is great. Seafood is cheap and people are very nice too.
It is an awesome place to visit for its great mix of sea and forests, making it picturesque and great for sightseeing and fun.
It also has handful of hotels and restaurants. The only problem is that there are still lots of unfinished roads, even close to the beach side (e.g. near Otres) which should be repaired to make it lot easier to move.
no rules town, cheap prices for all but dangerous place. I get poisoned in olive&olive restaurants near golden lion circle .
... be careful
The beach of Sihanoukville is pretty dirty. The only reason makes me want to come back here is the islands nearby.
The place is really, really nice. We spent there five days and we re pretty sure that we are going to come back.
The sun, the sky, the people and the food was marvellous. I dont remember a time when I ate so much seafood, as in myncountry of kiving it is pricy and not so fresh. The taste of fressh squids, prawns and fish was.... It is really hard to explain :-P. I really recommend the beach bar Beachy (yo would recognize it as it has blue chairs and armchairs) as it has the nicest foood around Serendipity beach. Really we tested some more bars and this is surely the best. They have marvellous fish and you should realy try theisnbarbecue seafood.
Was nice to see the cambodian beaches. Local fisherman traditionally fishing. Cooler. Waterfall a must to see.
Good local food relaxing and lay in water.night life was for tge younger ones.
Koh Rong Samleom has superb beaches! We stayed in Koh Rong but only stayed in the southern part of the island.
We wanted so much to go to the lazy beach but the waves were too big, and we didn't try coz we were with small children... I would definitely come back to Koh Rong Samleom and Otres Beach in October! The beaches are gorgeous, raw!
I would like to recommend Sihanoukville as a transfer village only (to Koh Rong or Koh Rong Samloem certanly).
The Shoka Beach was the only one which was clean.
All are nice (beach and sun)but I has got snatched from tuk tuk at night time :( grabed my phone from my hand.
Police in here not work at all . so be cafeful with your stuff ...it's like normal things that you got rob by cambodia in here..I knew one got robed by kid and another same as me on street....
GREAT PLACE FOR A HOLIDAY, I BOOKED 4 NIGHTS DECIDED TO STAY 3 WEEKS. VERY SAFE AND PEOPLE ARE VERY FRIENDLY.
Sihanoukville is a large open area. Their is an airport as well as good bus transportation for Pnnom Penh.
There are many different beaches and sections to Sihanoukville. There is the quiet part called Victory Beach, a more expensive and secluded area of Independence beach. The younger more nightlife of Serendipity Beach. As well as three other beaches that are also unique in their own way. There are many restaurants and even more beach surf-side local relaxing spots. I suggest you take a ride along the beach and stop at one of the many small outpost get a table under the shade covering and order a drink and lunch or dinner. Bring a swim suit and a towel, you can enter the water from your table and enjoy warm clean shallow water.
Nice beaches and good food, friendly people. We went to some small islands for snorkeling and sun bath.
It was incredible! The beach was very clean with white sand. On koh rong saloem inland, there were some bungalow for travelers.
