So glad we decided to visit Tangalla. The veiws were lovely and the beaches were like a tropical dream just lovely and im from the home of beautiful beaches - Australia.
Very inspired place and hope to see the area build up after the Tsunami
We did not see a lot from the city, but enjoyed the beautiful beaches which are everywhere. We saw the monastery Mulkirigala, which is really beautiful and fascinating.
There are nice restaurants on the beach (most of them from hotels). Really romantic and quiet.
Situated 195km from Colombo,is one of the nicest spots along the coast, particularly if you just want somewhere to relax and soak up the sun.
The town itself is an easy-going place with some reminders of Dutch days. From Tangalla the white sands of Medaketiya Beach stretch for more than 3km northeast. Heading southwest there is a whole series of smaller bays and beaches. From a distance it looks idyllic, but up close it is another story. Tangalla suffered grievously from the tsunami. Thousands died in the area and hundreds of homes were destroyed, especially going northeast from the Kirama Oya. Scores of oceanfront guesthouses (with owners, guests and staff) were washed away along Medaketiya Beach. Rebuilding has been very slow, although at some point more places to stay should reappear along this gorgeous beach. In the meantime, everybody has their own tale of loss.
The town is not really interesting. It's pretty busy and has hotels, restaurants, spas, however other towns are probably more interesting.
This would probably be an OK place to go see various parks and use it as a base or as a stopover on your way to another place.
Is not a toristic place, enjoy the really nice food in beach bars of many hotels and beach road. Visit blu hole and Rock Temple, very nice.
Of course enjoy the nice beaches.
Tangalle is a great little stretch of beautiful beaches you should not miss. Idyllic, peaceful and, best of all, far from any crowds.
The beaches are all practically deserted and absolutely stunning to be at. Do yourself a favour and de-stress immediately with a short stay here.
Didn't visit Tangalla, just did a Turtle spotting tour nearby. Turtle Bay is located approx 20km east of Tangalla in Kalametiya Bay.
A very nice village in the South, not much shopping and entertainment, but a lot of sightseeing and beautiful nature.
If lucky you meet a local which takes you of the beaten tracks.
Tangalle Beach is beautiful. The nearby Guest House offers nice food and beverages. Overall a relaxing experience.
