Townsville is a fantastic city to walk around - an incredible effort has been put into maintaining the Strand, the parks and the riverwalks as clean, tidy, friendly places for families visit/use and this can be seen in numbers that use these areas.
An absolute pleasure to walk along the Ross River. With Magnetic Island so close and a range of historical towns nearby it is easy to spend a week to 10 days in Townsville!
Townsville was great for shopping but I found it a bit dirty and industrial looking. The area around the casino and the strand were beautiful but the rest wasn't great unless your really into shopping there's not much else to do.
If you don't want to travel as far as cairns to visit the Great Barrier Reef, then Townsville is the place, its not over touristy and there is plenty to do for all age groups and Magnetic Island is a must.
Castle Hill is a lovely spot to visit to get an overview of the city and very convenient to get to, magnetic Island is a nice day trip from Townsville, some good shopping and an easy laid back pace.
There is a great strand and waterbomb park great resturants and after the moonsoons there is a place up near rollingstone called paluma or crystal creek full of waterfalls and swimming holes
Townsville is a vibrant tropical city. Good place to visit with a hire car as you are not far from beaches, rain forest, waterfalls & rural towns like Charters Towers.
Magnetic Island is a great day trip or stay for a few days. Only 20 minutes from Townsville.
We found the bus drivers and taxi drivers to be very friendly and helpful. The people that we met at the hotel allen were extremely friendly and welcoming.
The staff were also very nice and helpful. We walked aroung the town, and then headed over to magnetic Island. We found the people who lived and worked on the island to be not friendly. Not helpful and extremely rude. I would definately head back to Townsville but would not go to Magnetic island.
Its a lovely city it has a country feel about it and not so hussel & bussel. Its also very pretty with the Strand and marina, has gorgeous resturants.
Palmer St-Yumm! The new Myer centre for shopping was very convenientas well.
very diverse city - rural meets city - university / defence force / mining support infrastructure - great place to visit and possibly STAY AWHILE!
Take the time to travel to Magnetic Island and spend the day exploring - by a day long bus pass and do a little hiking on some of the trails.
palluma crystal falls. castle hill at night is nice .queens garden.magnetic island.the strand the crock park was ok but needs help.
frosty mango ok.hogs breath in town max brenner ok.
A large regional city, with a diverse population. Best thing we went to was Renegade Handmade Market at the Aitkenvale School Hall.
It's only on the second Saturday of the month, but it's all local and handmade. Excellent quality.
Townsville is a very metropolitan city but with a very country feel! It is a regional hub for many industries and also travellers.
From backpackers to soldiers....this place has a mix of everything.
Only there for just over one day. Enjoyed Reef HQ and the Strand. We were there over the weekend and the city itself seemed dead.
But at the places we visited, there were plenty of people enjoying themselves.
Townsville is a fairly quiet city that is mostly accessible by foot. Roads are very steep especially at the foot of Castle Hill.
Short drive to the airport which is only 6 kms away. Also a short drive to the Hervey Ranges which sport bush walks, swimming areas and tea rooms. The city centre hosts a weekly market for craft, clothing and food items.
So many activities to do along The Strand, restaurants and bars have a great variety of food. Nightlife is always buzzing.
Day time activities like hiking up Castle Hill or driving the scenic routes is always fun. Fish and Chips on the beach followed by an afternoon at the free water parks, dinner at a seaside restaurant followed by a stroll and Gelatissimo. No time to be bored with kids or otherwise
A friendly laid back atmosphere great weather well thought out walking paths and parks especially along the strand.
The people from the airport to the hotels to the cabs and everywhere were xtra nice, accommodating and helpful.
Townsville looks like a very peaceful place. Nice to relax and get away from the hsutle and bustle of city life. But I hope Sealink will consider pushing through with the Great Barrier Reef tour even if the 12 pax/grp was not completed. We flew all the way from the Philippines just to see it, but it was a goner. And we were only there for a night. Too bad. Missed the chance?
We went there for a dance com.etition and it was fantastic. Highly recommend Dancensations Dance Studio.
The com.etition was held at the arts Centre. Fabulous venue and the swimming .ool outside looked very inviting and it was massive. Great area for kids. Lot of roadworks at the moment so allow extra time for that, but once it's done it will be a great city to get around in. We would go back
not much to do, not good to travel there in summer. Difficult to get around, no real public transport.
Everything very expensive. Difficult to eat healty. Surprised that you dont have beach resorts like Sydney has Bondi. Sorry but I would not recommend it given how far it is to get to from the main cities. I only went there to watch my son play cricket.
Extremely friendly place. Fantastic attractions and activities. Brilliant location and accessibility.
My partner and I are considering moving there in a couple of years.
