"My boyfriend and I spent one night in the Eagle Safari Bungalow and we booked the Udawallawe safari with them (3000 rupees each). For the cheap price of a double room, we got a room with a double bed, a quite big private bathroom and a fan. Toiletteries were there and even a water boiler which was perfect for us coffee junkies! The room had an AC but the remote was not there so I believe that you have to pay extra for it. We arrived in the evening, so it was not too hot in the room but the next day when we left it was so hot and stuffy - so if you're planning to stay for longer, we advise you to get the AC included. The staff's English was not thaaat advanced but enough to communicate the main necessities. They also let me cook in the kitchen when I asked them. The location is complicated to find and is not displayed correctly on Google Maps but there are at least some signs and you can ask around. Besides that, it is directly near the main road and the bus drop off point."

"The best thing was our ranger, who took us on a safari to Udawalawe National park. He was so knowledgeable and always made sure we were happy to move on after spotting animals. The hotel also arranged a tuk tuk for us to the elephant transit home, where we saw baby elephants being fed. A great experience. I would say food was a bit basic but absolutely fine for a 1 night stay. Room was spacious and clean and we had an amazing view if the river from our balcony. The staff is very friendly too."

"Given the great reviews, we were surprised to experience a stay that was pretty much average. -The facilities are beautiful and made us feel in a tiny jungle resort. -The room is spacious and clean but poorly ventilated. The owner said that the fans would work better at night due to stronger electricity supply, but it didn’t. We had to leave all the windows open (no screen but a net over the bed) and it was still very hot. -When we woke up for the safari, we found hundreds of mini-flies and ants crawling on the floor near the bathroom door. They all went away by themselves when the daylight started shining. A bit expected since we are in jungle, but the quantity was impressive. -We chose to have dinner on site, but the rice & curry was average at best (1800lkr). A bit of green beans and chicken, but mostly starchy options (potatoes, squash, rice, etc). It was the same for the included breakfast: no fruits, but lots of bready options (pancakes, muffins, roti, dahl wade, bread). The cutlets were good. We were also charged for the water we were served during the meal (even though we had our own reusable bottle). Not that it was expensive, but just surprising. We informed the host of our comments, but I’m not sure he understood everything. With that said, the owner is a very nice man who really wants to make his customers happy. I feel sorry that we were not able to communicate more. "

"We stayed at Udawalawe Safari resort for 2 nights after changing our booking form another hotel. We got scared off the other place after reading some horrible reviews and decided to book here instead as we needed a bit of luxury after some of our other experiences in Sri Lanka. It cost more than a couple of places we had previously stayed at, but boy was it worth it! we had a massive room with a very comfortable bed, and a nice big balcony to sit out on in the afternoon drinking beer and reading. The pool was also massive and we virtually had the place to ourselves for most of the afternoon. Also Buffet meals were fantastic. The staff helped us organise everything and just let us bill it all to our room and finalise payment when we checked-out. They were really helpful and made our stay very enjoyable. We organised an early morning Safari tour after our first night and I would recommend this as the main thing to do while you're there. We saw about 30 different elephants, as well as lots of other wildlife (Peacocks, land monitor, hawks, eagles, crocodiles, deer, etc). make sure you do this and also visit the elephant rehabilitaion centre a short walk from the resort."
