Wellington hotels & accommodations

Thank you to staff at Willis Wellington Hotel. I couldn't have asked for a better experience. I don't want for much when it comes to accommodation but your warm hospitality and friendliness was most impressive. I'll be singing your praises and would happily recommend this establishment to any fellow travellers.

it is the second time that we stay at the Rydges Wellington Hotel. as in the previous time, we were pleased with our room which was large, with a big window looking at the city. the staff were helpful and friendly. there was, as before, a charge of 30 nz dollars a day for the car valet parking, but since it is in the centre of town, it is understandable. the only draw...

We stayed at the Travel Lodge Wellington from December 19-23 2012, and appreciated the warm welcome, efficiency and hospitality. The hotel is perfectly located; a few minutes walk from all the ‘attractions’ – museum, shops, restaurants, public transport, Wellington harbor, Parliament, Churches, supermarkets etc. The check-in/out process was seamless. All the st...

My boyfriend stayed in the dorm here on our first few days in Wellington and everything was great - I've stayed at all hostels in Wellington and this is by far the best and best value! Super clean, free dinner which is the best!!! cheap drinks and PERFECT location!

Just a short walk from the waterfront and convenient to the bars and restaurants in central Wellington, this multi-storey backpackers had more of an industrial/ backpacker-factory feel than I'd have preferred, but it was fine for a couple of nights. WiFi throughout is only on a paid basis and the breakfast was overpriced. Desk staff were quite helpful though was twi...

Logan Brown very close proximity, Havana bar & Restaurant, this was my favourite, easy walking to Cuba street, then down to Te Papa, Gallipoli exhibition was incredible. We took an Uber out to Maranui Cafe at Lyall Bay, exceptional breakfast, brunch food and the salads looked devine. Jumped in another cab to go to Weta Workshop, we did one tour $28 or you can opt to do...

Stayed here for a day during my weekend trip to Wellington, a few months back and had a pleasant stay overall. Though I got there before the check-in time, the front desk executive was understanding of my situation and provided me a room which was being cleaned by housekeeping. They did a $10 charge on my credit card during check-in which was eventually reversed during...

We had a fantastic stay at the Bolton Hotel in Wellington and wished we had been able to stay longer. I would definitely recommend this hotel , especially to families with children as the rooms were big with a large bedroom which had a separate bathroom, living area, and kitchen. The kitchen was fully equipped and even had a washer/dryer machine! The hotel was centr...

New property and well located and so it was in good condition. The main issue was the mechanical noise. When we complained the receptionist said all the mechanicals for the building were in the wall adjacent to our room and others had also complained. Fortunately it was a constant noise so bearable but you did feel like your were in a factory with the constant hum o...

My partner and I were stuck at Wellington airport after missing our flight and desperately needed somewhere to stay so we just booked the closest accommodation and hoped for the best. We were so pleased with the motel - from the free pickup to the spa bath, all the amenities were perfect. The bed was comfy, room was clean, bath was luxurious and the staff were so frien...

We were a group of 8 people ( 3 kids and 5 adults). And it meet out needs quite comfortably. Specially rooms with two bathroom were a bonus. The staff ( Night Manager Mr. Bharat) was very accommodating and helpful. Sharing his insight about the city based on our unique requirement was very much appreciated by evey one in our group. The location is super nice...and clos...

We really enjoyed our stay at the Ibis Wellington Hotel. The Staff were very nice and the room was nice and clean. We got a great deal for 3 nights for 2 people. It was cheaper than staying at a double room at a Hostal. Thanks Agoda! This Hotel is 10 mins walk from restaurants and bars on Cuba St. I would recommend this Hotel!

Serviced apartments. First night we were disturbed by some kind of fighting on the floor above us or beside us, we weren't sure, which means sound proofing is not that top-notch, but bearable, no problem sleeping at all. We got the studio type, it comes with a washer/dryer machine, kitchen. It is fully equipped, designed for long-term rental if you want. Our room w...

InterContinental Wellington is wonderful first class hotel which has everything you would expect from InterContinental. All my needs and expectations were met with high class standards. On my mind, this is the best hotel in Wellington now. Wonderful job of all staff members. Special thanks for everyone involved for making my daughter’s birthday celebration unforgettabl...

The setup on Dixon was perfectly located in the city of Wellington. Friendly staff, clean room and good facilities. For example, guests could gym for free at the Les Mills gym which was a big bonus. Also free coffee, hot chocolate and tea. Only downside was that the room had no window and the airflow wasn't the best, but it's your own choice to book a room with a wind...

Everything was great - the room was really well equipped, the decor was nice, bed was huge and very comfy, it was spotlessly clean and the staff were nothing but smiling and helpful. It is very central but is tucked away up a small side street that is a bit of a pain to get to but it was very quiet, unlike any of the hotels in Cuba St (you've been warned!!). This is g...

We enjoyed our stay at the Novotel, Wellington, New Zealand. We found it to be a modern hotel, with efficient attentive staff. Our room was large and well equipped, clean with a nice bathroom. It was well situated and had a separate lift that exited into the shopping centre on Lambton Quay (access after a certain time in the evening by key swipe from the street) whic...

My fiance and I had an 8-hour layover in Wellington so we decided to stay at the Airport Motor Lodge to get a few hours sleep before getting on a very early flight. We got to the motel at about 10:30pm and the man who greeted us when we checked in was very friendly and hospitable. He showed us our room, gave us information regarding the property (what to do if you che...

On a budget? Then Brentwood is perfect. Excellent value if you just need a place to sleep and leave your bags while touring the city. Comfort level is similar to most hotels. Clean and quiet. There is the infrequent sound of plane's taking off, but only the most noise-sensitive person is going to notice. Airport collection is easy as. Go to the airport information desk...

amazing! The best hostel I ever stayed in New Zealand. The whole place just smell really nice. Clean room and bathroom. The kitchen and common areas are very spacious and comfortable that I almost just want to stay in all day. Breakfast was simple but nice and good coffee. Because all the early ferry is fully booked, I had to get on a 2am ferry and they were really n...

We loved this hotel. Everything was absolutely superb. If you can find a better value hotel in Wellington CBD we would love to know about it because we certainly can’t find anything better than this. Great location, very central to everything, great price, spotlessly clean and great staff.

We checked in on New Years' Eve at around 6pm, and the owner was very friendly and gave us some good tips about eating and drinking out that evening, since Wellington is a bit of a sleepy capital city. The wi-fi actually worked, was decently fast, and the allocation was generous for a New Zealand motel (200MB each). Amongst other useful items, the kitchen contained two...

Old property that serves as a backpackers, but also has private rooms, some with ensuites, some with shared facilities that are more than adequate. Double room was clean and spacious w...

This hostel is located right in the heart of Wellington. It gives it a great urban feel, and is centrally located near all the attractions and, for ease of access, many stores. The facility offers many amenities such as a café, kitchen, all the areas that you would expect from a hostel. It was also very clean and tidy. I stayed in a private room, as that was all they ...

Even though the hotel is a bit older and would need certainly some refurbishment it's a great location to explore Wellington, bar and restaurant streets are close located. Mount Victoria is just nearby. It takes a bit longer by walking to get to the cable car. The dinner we enjoyed there was delicious.
Cheap places to stay in Wellington

Initailly chose this as it was the cheapest one. Ive read some reviews about how awful it is because its dirty, its not a 5 star hotel but it is a nice place to stay. Its a bit dirty in the way that hostels can be sometimes. Most of the dirt I saw was from guests not wiping down the table after they used it ans dirty dishes in the sink. The staff are super helpful, the...

What a hostel! The facilities and level of cleanliness are incredible. The staff are super friendly and for some reason this place seems to attract really amazing travellers. Definitely worth the few dollars more you pay compared to the cheaper hostels in Wellington. They are still quite new, hence still growing their number of reviews, but The Marion Hostel is definit...

The family had an enjoyable stay. Didn't feel like a backpackers at all. Everything you need for a value for money stay at a location close to Wellington. Nice and comfortable beds, clean rooms and amenities, fantastic view of the sea, friendly and hospitable staff, etc. Highly recommended. Will surely stay again in future.

The outside view of this motel would make you think that it was a bit below standard, but with a few exceptions detailed below, the interior of the room I had looked much more inviting than what I was expecting. Overall the room was sufficiently spacious as was the bathroom/shower. The room was also well cleaned and there was nothing to fault anywhere. The locati...

we had a great time during our 2 day stay, this place was easy to find after we turned of the freeway , we checked in and was shown straight to the room , a little gem ,the king suite , a very spacious big room but a down fall was the small T V , but we did not go there just to watch movies , The king suite is away from the pub , above a vacant shop so was quieter ,...

Such a great place to stay we arrived early (8am) and they let us store our bags in their office till (2pm check in time) and one of the guys who worked us let us tag along on his Uber and even showed us around Wellington then we came back to Te Puni at 1:30 and they let us check in early so that was cool super clean and comfortable stay and there was a balcony if you ...

The basement room is at the back of the property does provide privacy, however, I could hear all the noises from any movement upstairs. They have a tardis elevator!!! The walls are a bit thin so you can hear all the..fun happening in other rooms. Room was lovely and clean, there was no window in our room but that worked out well because there was no morning light to wake you up and the room was well conditioned so you even notice. Highly recommend, and did I mention the tardis elevator?!

We arrived after 22 hours of travelling, were greated very friendly and give advice how to spend our time in Wellington after a short rest. We didn't need a car, only 15 minutes walk to the centre of town. As on every Thursday, the museum has long opening hours, we enjoyed that. After we came back, we slept like babies in the relaxed and quiet atmosphere and were gree...

This B & B was beautifully appointed with lots of thoughtful touches. Jann could not have been more friendly or helpful, even giving me a lift down the road when it looked like rain. A cup of tea, iced water, even the offer of a glass of wine, and of course, a fabulous continental breakfast. The bed was super comfortable, with lovely linens, and the bathroom was great ...

We arrived late as we took the 6.30pm ferry from Picton to Wellington. They leave the room key inside the safebox infront of the reception building. The room did not comes with blanket - you need to request and have to pay extra. The facilities are great but we do not get to enjoy as we leave early in the morning the next day. Overall, its worth a night stay.

My partner and I was renting a camper van and travelling when we found that there were no decent camp-sites round the centre of Wellington so we booked Halswell lodge. It was brilliant. Great, safe off street parking, lovely staff and a great selection of different rooms for different prices.

A cute little hotel. Gave me a warmth and personal feeling. Located between Tory and Taranika St, quiet but within walking distance to eateries. The manager on duty has the best hospitality personality I hv ever seen. Always carried a smile and helpful. Loved sitting in their little cafe in the morning enjoying my cup of coffee. Will check in again if I revisit We...

Very close to our daughter's home in Brooklyn. Within walking distance of Cuba Street and Lambton Quay which was for us a big plus. Having a car park was our first consideration for staying at the Marksman. The quality of the interior, furniture and appliances was first class and far exceeded other hotels/motel we have stayed at in central Wellington.

It was a pleasant stay, this apartment was fully equipped with kitchenettes, laundries (washer & dryer), toiletries everything you need they have prepared for you. Car park has to be reserved upon booking at NZ$10 per day, the parking slot is not that fantastic as it is right behind the building with weak lighting.

Stayed for a weekend in Wellington. Had a car so opted to stay at this motor lodge rather than in the city. Parking was ample, accessibility into the city was ok, 28 kms drive, for a weekend, traffic was not a problem. Overall very happy with stay.

Great room. Got the cheapest one and it was clean and well appointed. The best part was that it was very spacious. Only downfall was that there was a constant pouring water noise in the room above which kept me awake most of the night, but I’m assuming that it will be fixed and is only temporary. Great location. Walk right out onto lampton quay.

Going to Wellington when there is Rugby and you have no clue about the game, that the escape point for you. Close to the city train station, great breakfast and Nice staff. And if You love riding a real Motorcycle ask for the Indian and Harley dealer who also offers to rent such beauti...

Booked on line, explained, 2 single ladies...separate beds...room with view of beach and Wgtn lights in distance. Owners lovely, cleaning ladies very friendly. laundry and clothes line perfect. It is about 10 years since I stayed at this accommodation which has been significantly upgraded. While not in central Wellington it has easy access to motorways and good value for money. I will certainly stay here again if I return to visit Wellington.

Excellent location, very easy to get into Wellington on the train & much better than being stuck in the city. Lots of things to do in the area. Russell & Viv are very friendly informative hosts & make you feel very welcome. Enjoyed staying here very much.

Stayed in room 6 and there was a loud dripping noise every 3-5 seconds and it went on all night and i could still hear it in the morning... Stayed on Level one. Easter Friday had no room service. We had a lovely stay at Brackenridge. From the full kitchen and bbq to the spaciously layed out 2 bedroom suite to the gorgeous property. We all agreed we slept better than we did at the Hilton. Loved it!! Wished we'd stayed longer and looking forward to coming back!!

Museum Art Hotel in Wellington is an interesting boutique hotel. Slightly away from the CBD,the hotel is close to major entertainment areas of Wellington. This room was huge! It also had an amazing sea view and you could see across to Wellington City centre. The Wellington Art Museum hotel is surely the best place to stay in Wellington. The hotel has a high level of luxury, is comfortable and the staff are friendly and helpful - without being 'in your face' for the rest of your stay like other hotels. The Museum Art decor is interesting and provides a lovely eclectic atmosphere. The location of the hotel is also great!...

Your host is the architect who designed the B&B, including the Garden Room studio, comfortable and beautifully appointed. Bed, linens and shower are top notch. Special touches like art books and design magazines, comfortable chairs and an ottoman, his own painting and a joyful sculpture add character. Continental breakfast goodies are just right. Real reviews for hotels
we only stayed 2 nights and other than a break for us ourselves, we went to wellington to see the Galipoli display and Te Papa it self, after 3 hrs in Te Papa, we went to see the Cuba Mall and it was so busy and full of fun it was just nice sitting outside people watching,, The weather was great and we spent a bit of time just resting in the room with the fantastic view of the water front, watching Families, Boats, Planes.
Outstanding people - very hospitable. Wonderful variety of shops, bars and restaurants too and both Te Papa and the War Museum are must visits! BUT - there's a distinct lack of public toilets and facilities, other than making use of the facilities at the bars and restaurants we visited.
We always like to drive aorund the coastline, meandering into odd little areas, getting gently lost among the multitude of streets, looking at the wonderful architecture.
Breakfast or lunch at The Hangar. Afternoon drink or snacks at The Arborist; they say that the Lumberjack is the best burger in town - and it's true! Not huge as the name infers, it is the perfect size.
Wellington is definitely one of my favourite cities, it is not too big but it has everything: amazing museums (the Te Papa is the best museum I have ever seen, I liked it even more than the museums in New York or London), good restaurants and cafés (Midnight Espresso is great), a cool nightlife especially in Courtenay Place, it is close to the sea and it is great for shopping too (I love the Recycle Boutique, a huge Second Hand Shop).
Wellington, you truely are a fun safe vibrant safe city for nightlife, with a wide range of choices to suit all ethnithices.
We didn't have enough time to stay longer, but made the most in exploring the town one day and walking to the top of Mount Victoria the second day.
Excellent from every aspect. Lots to do and see along the huge natural harbour as well as in the compact city itself.
Friendly Wellingtonians. Te Papa Museum is one of the best I've been to anywhere. Recommend a trip on the cable car and walk downhill through the Botanical Gardens.
Groovy little city. Easy to get around. Great food and friendly people. The museum and art gallery are awesome.
The city is very compact and walkable, with lovely architecture and a great vibe. A walk along the harbourfront gives a very lovely view.
A getaway from busy city life. A very relaxing city to be in. Shop close generally very early. Only left with restaurant in the night.
Impressed with the number of local buses and how often they run. Impressed with the interest that local inhabitants show in wanting visitors to have a good time and to not miss any of Wellington's attractions.
If Lord of the ring is the tourist attraction, more information should be provided, such as the actual street nos and location for the GPS direction otherwise everyone could be got lost as we did, the promotion of restaurants is not enough too, no seafoods not fish market although we were at the coastal area.
I absolutely love Wellington! But keep a map with you just in case you get lost in the heart of the city.
Great city to visit,we had a wonderful morning at the Te Papa museum with free entry. There are many fantastic bars and restaurants all serving delicious food , we had an excellent meal at the General Practitioner in the Centre and the waterfront was a good place for a walk and a glass of wine.
I'm sold on the place. Far better night life than Auckland. Courtney Place is just a great area to spend a Fri or Sat night.
Beautiful and amazing there is so much to see, like I have been to the Botanic gardens 3 times, and I still haven't seen much of it, and it's right in the centre of the city.
It's Cold & Windy in the winter, It has a very interesting History and is great for sight seeing, eating lots of food, & drink.
A small city with a long history. Most dining and shopping are located within a small area in the middle of the city which you can cover by walking.
A beautiful old city. With many confusing alleyways. Because its a very hilly city there are lots of different levels to the city.
there were so many things to visit such as civic center, wellington train station, beehive parliament, church etc, most building was built long time ago so they look so old but antique.
We found Wellington great for walking around.Plenty of things to look at or buy, variety of shops to see and interesting cultural history at the museum.
I love Wgtn...born and bred in Lower Hutt...Welliwood rules. hate living in Auckland, but can't afford to move home.
Wellington is a nice compact city with much NZ history and culture to show. The harbour area is nice, and the sea view very beautiful.
Wellington city is pretty small, hence you could travel by foot (although there is extremely good taxi service for a comfortable ride).
Lovely clean city (except for Cuba Street). The transport system is excellent and there is really no need to hire a car.
Great city to base yourself for a few days to explore the bottom of the north island & the top of the sth islands.
Sight seeing around the harbour, parliament, zoo, art gallery, parks and a drive out to Petone to La Bella Italia for lunch, the best of the best.
Wellington, Movie town: Weta cave, Movie tours, and don't miss The Roxy Theater close to the airport.
