The Whitsundays is just one of those places you must visit whilst you are in Australia, there is so much to explore when it comes to visiting islands, doing a bit of diving or snorkeling or just having a swim in the clear water.
Airlie Beach, even though it is a nice place, is slightly overrated and is starting to look like it has pasted its prime days.
Whitsundays is accessed from Airlie and unless you are staying on Hamilton island (or other island in the Whitsundays) or staying overnight on a boat, you will need to either sail/fly in to appreciate it.
It is simply beautiful - aqua, clear water, beautiful fishes and white beaches, just gorgeous.
The Whitsundays are BEAUTIFUL. We went on a tour by Ocean Rafting (It cost roughly $130 each during offpeak season including stinger suits) and went snorkelling and sunbathed on Whitehaven beach.
Definitely have to see it!
Each island has unique facilities and they offer a good contrast to Proserpine and Airlie Beach. Lots of options for sightseeing and activities so do some research before you go.
Good local bus service on the mainland. Safe to walk at night. Easy and pleasant walk from Airlie Beach to local marinas but bus needed to get to Shute Harbour for boat trips. Take sea sickness tablets before you board the boat. We had no side effects and were able to enjoy the trip. Crews assist sea sick passengers very competently but better to be safe than sorry.
The main reason for a Whitsunday visit are the Islands and carefree attitude of the Tourists. The outdoor activities are many with most being connected to the sun and sea.
All of the Islands cater for whatever you choose to do, be it full on or lay back. As a holiday destination the Whitsundays have it all.
A beautiful part of Australia! We would all be doing Australia a great service if we spent our Aussie dollar & holiday time spent in this wonderful part of Australia.
I would definitely holiday here instead of going overseas.
The Whitsundays are AMAZING. But you can really overspend if you don't plan. I love to scuba dive but I have to confess that the Barrier Reef is best seen by air.
The trip to the pontoon on the outer reef was great but it was really a rip off. We paid $220 each there and back on a ferry and there are better ways to get out there. This is the only thing I wouldn't recommend. Try Fajitas at Cactus Jack's and the Sidewalk cafe both in Airlie Beach. Whitehaven beach is a must as is the Hilltop lookout on Whitsunday island. So is snorkelling. The fish at the outer reef are the same as those around Islands such as Hook Island. Avoid the really heavily marketed tourist stuff and go for some of the smaller tour providers to avoid paying more than you should. We stayed at Airlie apartments which was great value for money and really comfy bed.
Too much to see & do for everyone in every age group. Stunning, variety of everything to offer, with friendly & helpful locals.
The beauty is breath taking. I TOTALLY LOVE THE WHITSUNDAY'S!!
must visit dream island, whitsundays island and great reef barrier, better stay at hamilton island, more convenient.
Airlie Apartments to stay. Noodle House for a great meal in the open. Barefoot Cruises for a four day sailing trip.
Lovely lagoon to swim, picnic, walk around and sit on the many seats with plenty of shade. Great walks around the broadwalk.
Arlie beach and the Whitsundays are an outdoor paradise, and Arlie Beach is the perfect base to explore it from.
Wings Adventures is probably the best company to sail to the Reef and explore it
Backpacker heaven, plenty of places to stay in the center of town and talk to people from all over the world.
Dream place and worth a view in a people's life. We will never forget the nights and days we spent at here.
Whitsunday's is like being in paradise. It would have to be one of the most beautiful places I have seen.
I went ocean rafting, kayaking, jet skiing, yachting, went out to the Great Barrier Reef, snorkelling, bush walking and did have some spare time to just relax. There is so much to see and do up there.
Beautiful place. See it at is best on the sea plane and Derwent Hunter tall ship. Excellent experience
Make sure you are loaded up with food and groceries Food on the island are overpriced and very average.
Chips, oil, salt, steak, pasta, spam, soft drinks, alcohol, anything you could think of... Make sure you bring as much as you can
A beautiful area in central Queensland to spend time relaxing or even enjoying some adrenaline sports.
Lovely part of the great barrier reef to explore by sail boat or diving trips.
Lovely place for sightseeing and sense of away from the loud city life. Quiet, safe little island town
