Where to stay in York
York hotels & accommodations

I enjoy my stay at Hilton York Hotel. The reception staff is nice and helpful. Besides, I book it several months before the journey and so the price is quite good. The location of the hotel is close to the train station. Besides, it takes only 10 minutes to walk to the main tourist attractions. Besides, breakfast are prepared for all the guests here. The quality is goo...

Great location, right in the centre of town within the walls. All attractions within walking distance. Not the cheapest hotel in York, but well worth the money due to the location and also away from the bars so quiet at night. Overlooking one of the main attractions and easy to find, just follow signs to Cliffords tower, where there is a huge car park right next to bot...

Our booking was so easy and straight forward, the hotel very kindly upgraded us to the loft suite free of charge as it was a special weekend for us. The a suite was fantastic we had the best time, the sauna defiantly made it. The hotel was a beautiful building and had wonderful character . I can't stress how perfect the location was it took us 9 mins to walk to the ver...

We had had an unfortunate booking at another hotel which we decided not to stay. This was booked the day before. The room was beautiful. Well equipped. The lady who was cleaning the room was superb. Very helpful and friendley. I was on crutches and so asked if we would like to change room to A ground floor. Wish we had booked for the whole 3 days we stayed in york.

-Best location (very close to York station, city center) -Cheap but not comprosing quality -Spaceous room -Private space with individual bed-curtains and lamp - I loved it the most! -Quality breakfast for only 3.5 pound -Free luggage storage I would stay there if I visit York again and I wish other hostels in other cities are like Safestay york.

I loved everything about the Guy Fawkes Inn's location in Old York. Be advised that this part of York is for pedestrians only, so a cab is able to drop you off nearby, but there is no place to park at the inn. It is within walking distance of Yorkminster. My husband and I arrived by train and hailed a cab. Getting back to the train station to rent a car was more of a c...

The hotel is located on the bank of the river and is ideally situated for the station as its a quick stroll away and also a very short walk across the river to all that York has to offer. From the outside the hotel doesn't look classy as it was an office block but the inside it very stylish and finish is of high standard. The rooms are well presented and VERY clean f...

We enjoyed our stay at the Lamb and Lion very much. Wonderful staff (over and above the norm for service), nice variety for breakfasts. The room was comfortable and airy and not as small as I was led to believe from other reviews. The location in York was superb - right at a gate (bar) that leads to the city wall and within walking distance to everything in the old ci...

You must to booking this hostel. It is the best for everyone to travel in York. You have to spend a little time for walking to heritage e.g York Minster, The shambles, Betty's Afternoon tea. And you get 20% discount at Kennedy's bar and restaurant.

This hotel is a well equipped venue suited to business/conference travellers. It is located on a main road into York centre which is about three miles away. For a tourist there appeared frequent public transport to the city centre. On site car parking is outside and ample. The drive to York is straight forward but an early start would be a good idea to find parking....

We arrived to be welcomed by a plate of mince pies at reception, were given a quick tour of the hotel and shown right to our room. My daughter an i were staying in York to go Christmas shopping the next day and the hotel was conveniently close to the station (you can access it via the back gate from the car park which is only a 5 mins walk) and city centre. We booked a...

My room is a single room with shared bathroom on top of this building. The bathroom & toilet are very clean. Shared kitchen & living room are very nice too! You can cook and have laundry easily there. Since the lift can't reach the top floor, you need to climb sever1al staircase steps. But it's easy to manage. All staff are very nice, especially Phillp who moved m...

Good situation for York races. Room was spacious and towels and sheets spotless but could have done with the surfaces a bit cleaner, especially the window ledge which was filthy. Breakfast is fine, but no-one manning the egg station? Despite the couple of gripes we would stay again due to the location when visiting the racecourse.

I have stayed in York many times. Once I found this hotel ... well all I can say it I am now Glued to it. They take amazing care of you, their staff is ver kind and gracious! The lobby is to die for, you will want to just hang out and eat the incredible complimentary cookies that become an instant addiction. The location is everything, just across the street from ...

The reception was very welcoming. The breakfast staff was very patient as I got an one yr old with me. The room was large so baby could crawl. Most of facilities in the room are in good condition n all well organised. The bed was too soft to me but everyone is different pref. Bathroom was spacious too that was handy with young kids. I highly recommend this hotel. I'll ...

We arrived before the usual 2pm check-in time but they allowed us to check in early. Room was spacious and the bed was nice and comfy. The location of the hotel is excellent, just a short 10-minute walk to the city centre. The staff at the reception was very helpful too when we asked for tourist attractions in the city. She gave us a map of places of interest nearby. D...

Stayed at the queens hotel in york on fri december 2009.The hotel is only a short walk away from the centre and is brillant for shopping and nights out.The bars and clubs are only 5 mins away across the bridge. Its a shame the car parking at this hotel is not included in the price of your room.I had to drop my things off and park at the nearest N.C.P 5 mins away(£10.20 ...

All you need for a couple of nights clean tidy and the staff were lovely small rooms but all you need towels included! Tv and a small basin. Town is a wee bit away but buses are widely available I found no issue getting in and out of town definitely one of the nicest hostels I’ve stayed in beautiful outside area would be super nice in summer would stay again !

Having booked the Holiday Inn Express York purely because we wanted somewhere cheap to stay. I can honestly say I was so impressed. Location was excellent, hotel was clean, and the staff were exceptional. Unfortunately I was bitten by a dog while I was out in Thirsk during my stay, not sure what to do I drove back to the hotel, I asked the reception staff, they couldn'...

We booked this place last minute for a short break in York. Lovely hotel with only a handful of individual rooms. Ours had a big and comfortable four poster bed and lovely en-suite bathroom. Room was clean and well appointed with good sized bathroom. Decor was somewhat dated and bathroom in need of modernisation. We stayed at YHA York for 2 nights and had a nice experience. We booked a room for 2 people with a bunk bed. You might have to climb as there's no lift. The hostel is not far from the Y...

Had to pay for car park which was ~7min walk away from hotel which cost us extra £25 per our stay. If we would of knew...

I think it's a B&B rather than a hotel. Nice location, very close to York Minster and Bettys Cafe. The staff was very kind and welcoming. A map of York was provided during check-in which was kinda sweet. The size of the room was tiny as expected, yet cozy and clean. Do notice that the wifi signal was super weak that basically there was no signal during my stay. But I w...

The nice hotel is within 10-15 min walking distance to city center and York train station. The room is clean with heater to keep warm during night time in winter. I definitely recommend this...

very warm welcome from the staff when i check-in to the hotel. the room is decorated in old style fashion with a basin outside the bath room. the room condition is ok except unfortunately that the heater is not working so my wife got cold along the two night stays. a moment walk from the york rail station and the city to the hotel.

Staff were very friendly and helpful. After we checked out they asked if we wanted to leave our luggage there while we explored York. Breakfast was awesome! Location smack in the middle of town-cannot be better. Attractions were all accessible on foot so no need for the car. The Owners were extremely hospitable, gracious and accomodating. Great stay at this guest house. We arrived late but were met by the friendliest of owners, Nikki. She provides a spotless room with extra comfortable beds! The breakfast was amazing. Nikki spent time giving us a walking route for our visit to York. Couldn't have asked for more!

We originally booked a double room, but realised we had booked for the wrong date so we used the online booking amendment system to change to a later date. We then received a call saying that this date wasn't available, and changed again. If you are into smaller boutique hotels then this is the one for you. Welcomed by the owner, who couldn’t do enough for us and was extremely accommodating. Everything about 23 St Mary's was great! Before I arrived, I received an SMS from Fiona who runs the place, asking what time I would be arriving and if I needed a free parking permit. As I was arriving late, I had to do a self check-in, and very clear instructions were given by Fiona so everything went smoothly. I had also received a free upgrade as the room was availa...

This boutique hotel brand has expanded dramatically over the past few years. The York establishment is one of the smaller ones but still manages to combine old-world charm with brisk efficiency. Every property boasts a high-class bistro and so there is no need to search out a decent restaurant if you are only there for one night as the hotel bistro will usually offer s...

Grove House B&B is literally perfect! It offers relaxed, super comfortable accommodation in a beautiful area, ideally located to the historical city of York. Brilliant little location, the staff are great and the apartment has a few basics already there for you( milk, coffee, fruit) Parking could be explained before arriving, just to make things easier. Overall had a great stay, very quirky with lots of little surprises. Definitely would go again.

Mike the owner of DGH has taken care of his house in detail, from freshly cooked brekkie each morning, amenities & generous tea-coffee-chocolate pack in the room and nice accompanying chats - particularly valuable for me as a solo traveler. Our stay was just ok. The bed was comfortable, the large lounge room conveniently next door and the dining room just across the hall. This from beginning to end was a fabulous stay. Greeted by lovely staff. Shown around so that we knew where everything was. Taken to our rooms. Great rooms had everything you need. The staff were extremely helpful. The breakfast was lovely. Cant fault the place and would definitely recommend and stay here again.

We had a great stay at The Blue Bicycle Apartment. Everyday breakfast (self-catering) was amazing. Rooms are extremely comfortable, nice, clean and brand new. Location in the central of York which super convenient for everywhere. The Blue Bicycle Restaurant is also great, you must go. So much impressed, we would definitely come back. Thank you!

The York city is a place of leisure. A family with young children will enjoy it. Good food, good people!
Lovely town and full of attractive things to see and visiting. The shopping street is stuff with many shops and things to buy.
I can't tell you enough because I was only there for two days. I needed much more. One thing I would recommend to any one visiting York is joining English Heritage first.
York is an acient city with lots of historical buildings. A visit to Rowntrees Chocolate Factory and the Rail Museum is a must also keep your eye out for the Fudge Shop.
A very nice old town, clean, many mediaval attractions. Recommend Bettys tea shop, not the big one at the large square, but the small one in Stone street,
Beautiful city, it has been about 10years since we were there, why did we leave it so long. So much to do.
It was a nicer city than I expected. The Shambles was a nice place to check out the souvenirs and see the local market, also the Clifford Tower was a nice castle but it was closed due to strong wind and heavy rain.
This was our first but definitely not be our last visit to York City. The area is immaculate, full of shops of all sizes and denominations and has some of the finest restaurants I have ever has the pleasure to Dine In.
York is just a beautiful city with tons of culture. I could easily spend a week there with lots of museums and things to watch.
York is a friendly place. It is soaked in history, but modern as well. The many pubs and restaurants are superb, while York Minster, the River Ouse, the Roman walls and the old city are all well worth a look.
The city is not big and the attractions are close to each other, sightseeing can be made on foot. The environment makes you very relaxing.
This city is for anyone who is interested in history and/or architecture. Take the hop-on/hop-off bus to get an overview then walk to each of the attractions that interest you.
Lots to see, history and culture. York's a nice city in the North of England. Walk around the wall, go into the Minster and up the tower, visit the National Railway Museum, go on a Ghost Walk.
Don't miss it. It was one of the best places in the UK that we spent time. It was both interesting and educational, a must see on any trip if you are interested in HIstory, culture, shopping, ghosts, religion, books or walled cities so much to see and do.
Good place for a break: the city is compact, and there's lots to see: the Minster, the medieval walls etc.
