Attempted break in”
I will start by saying I have stayed at Cliff cottage 4 separate times and have never had a problem until this last stay. Staff, location, price etc are all good. However I was awoken at 3:30 a.m. by somebody entering my room, they had unlocked the door and opened it. When I shouted the person ran. Coincidentally it was my last night and I was leaving early that morning to go to an island that requires cash only.
Nice and quiet”
Hotel is lovely, if you want a quiet stay away from the party scene of lonely beach. We had a lovely bungalow for a week that was comfortable and you could hear the waves in the morning. Food was great too, great sunsets and a pool. The only reason I haven’t given it 5 stars was because of the owner. The way he talked to his staff was horrible to hear, telling the young thai girls who worked there how thai people are stupid etc. He gave a very negative energy to the place. When he told us that he wanted more bookings, we offered to help him with an Instagram etc, (for free), and he went off again about millennials being this and that. Oh well.
Best hotel staff in the kingdom”
After 2 months in thailand I can honestly say that the staff at this hotel are by far the most friendly, welcoming, and helpful of all. some of the hilltop bungalows have great sunset views and are a good value as well as having a great vibe. Shared bathrooms were always clean The owner is a great guy and very knowledgeable about recreation opportunities near and far. He was always willing to offer advice and very helpful with making arrangements for onward travel. These guys are really genuine and willing to help because they want you to have a good time, not cause there trying to sell you something. I can also recommend scuba diving with their in house dive shop as well. All the gear was new and the boat was really well outfitted. They have all the local knowledge and experience to make sure you have a good time in the water. If I were to go back to Koh Chang I would stay and dive with these guys again for sure. No need to look any where else.
Worth try a night stay at tent”
Pro: Exclusive, peaceful and quiet area on the cliff. Enjoy sunset and a sound of tidals at the night time. You might see heaps of stars at the nighttime if it's clear sky. Unfortunately, it's cloudy when I stayed there. Con: The place is located far from the main road. Difficult to travel if you don't have a car or a motorcycle. None of local restaurants or shops nearby. Only at the reception is available but with a higher cost. The tent is quite old. Deep cleaning is required. All mosquito nets around the tent were broken and the zips were locked by the cables. Really hard to get an air flow from the outside unless you open the main gate.
Bad experience ”
We stay 6 nights and didn’t clean the room. The toilet was smelling like a rotten egg and they didn’t replace the basket full of dirty toilet paper. The price is very expensive for what you get. The structure is in very bad condition. The food is very expensive. The staff always was always upset never smiling and never useful. Apart from long air guy. The pool is dirty.
Wonderful location, basic accomodation but value for money”
We booked 2 nights but extended to 7 nights. Great quiet location away from the loud bars and resorts further north of the island, although we needed to kayak to nearby beaches to enjoy a few days sitting on tropical beaches with bars/restaurants, but it was worth it. A short walk away from the fisherman's village and pier which has loads of good restaurants and shops. The accommodation was basic and in need of reformation, but reflected fairly in the price. Great to have daily visits from completely fearless monkeys! The resort restaurant was good, a little more expensive than local Thai restaurants, but well stocked. Staf can only be described as 'timid', perfectly nice but not very welcoming initially, but eventually became 'friendlier' the longer we were there.
Had a great stay here in the tent and bungalow waking up to monkeys is amazing and will visit this place again if on the island
To the tent cliff there are 40 steep stairs and up there is no wi-fi and no toilet. To get a towel you have to pay extra 40 Bht. The restaurant is quite expensive. But the place is beautiful, if you don ´t mind previously mentioned facts.
I was here for a jungle marathon. A passenger took my luggage from the bus, so I lost my gear, clothes and everything else. Luckily the manager Naiyana brought me to the village centre to buy things. She also drove me to the race site at 2am in the morning - it was a 3hr round trip for her, if not I would have to pay a fortune for a taxi at that time. The other staff at the hotel was also very friendly and helpful. View here is superb. Sea is only 10m from my cottage. Dining area overlooks the sea. The sunset and sunrise here is fantastic. Very quiet and peaceful, it is very conducive for a rural getawag. Also, there is a diving centre here so patrons can do watersports here too. The water is very clear, perfect for diving and snorkeling. There are also family friendly activities like kayaking. Extremely value for money resort!
place was good but not well maintained”
the location was deserted , and no street lights. But the view is good so in case you just want to relax and read books , you might like it. Tents are not maintained and they have problem with monkeys. Also the restroom was not clean :(
Good snorkeling and clean rooms. The manager was helpful with sorting things out with a local guide that were taking us out on a trek. Quit. On the bas side was that the kitchen was closed at certain hours during the day. The breakfast was very slow in the morning due to parallell preparations for the dive boat. They tried to rush it one morning which resulted in a pancake that was loose in the middle.
Do it for the view.”
Did the tent and bungalow. Both were wonderful, and had a great view for sunrise/sunset. The female staff did not seem friendly, but the man was cheerful, nice and helpful. Facilities were cleaned many times throughout the day, and the restaurant is very convenient. Without a motorcycle, you will be restrained to just that Bay and a nearby market. Highly suggest to do some snorkeling or kayaking while here.
We stayed in the tent, perfect sunset view from the top of a mountain. And if you go down you have a perfect sunrise view. Excellent pool in from of the beach, snorkel rental, free kayak, staff very nice. Restaurant good but a bit expensive. Loved it, will definetelt come back
Great place to do ocean activities with family”
I booked 2 family size & one 2 person for our group of 9, kids infant, 2, 5, 9, 12, 14, +1 friend. The tents are huge, our whole family could have fit in one of them. The mattresses were nice and thick, firm, like Thais like them, but comfortable for me. The bedding in one tent seemed to have been sitting for a few days and was quite mildewed smelling, as happens quickly near the ocean. The staff were great. They offered me an upgrade to one of the air conditioned rooms. I opted for a smaller tent instead because we loved the tents. Let me tell you about these tents. From the bathroom you climb 74 uneven steps to reach them. From the top you can choose which way to look. On one side, sunrise over bangbao bay, on the other, two little coves and the sound of crashing waves to lull you to sleep at night. My tent faced the bay and we didn't even need a fan in the middle of the night if the flap was open because the sea breeze cooled us. This was in hot season mind you, the rest of the country was experiencing super high temps. Things you should know if with kids: The laundry service mentioned is not at the location, but down the road a short way and cost 40baht/kilo. The pool is deep. Too deep for our 5 year old to stand in the shallow end. Swimmers only in there. The restaurant is reasonable compared to others in the area, expensive if you're used to mainland non tourist prices. The food is great though. There's a little Thai place in the fishing village at the end of the pier that's super cheap. You could borrow a free kayak, go over in about 10 minutes, dock at the pier, and come back with cheap dinner. Our older kids loved the kayaking and the snorkeling, super clear water, lots of marine life, and the little walks around the area. If you want to sit on a beautiful sandy beach, don't come here. If you Iike to get in the water, and love natural beauty and rocky shores, this is your place. Bonus, I lost 10 lbs in 3 days hauling up and down those stairs.
Great for a mellow, relaxing vacation”
I stayed in one of the "glamping tents", which was a nice change from your typical guest house. Staff is friendly, and there's some amazing snorkeling right in front of the restaurant. Great place if you want to hang out with chill people, snorkel and/or scuba dive. Not a great place if you came to Koh Chang to party. Per their website, they are located away from the party scene so just make sure you take that into consideration.
Perfect Island Week ”
I spent 5 nights at Cliff Cottage, and they went by far too quickly. It is located in a private bay to the side of Bangbao, so it's extremely quiet and isolated. Spent many hours relaxing in the hammocks in the communal area and enjoying the delicious food (especially recommend the curries and pad thai). But it's also close enough to walk to the Bangbao pier in a few minutes, and they will facilitate diving, snorkeling, kayaking etc - the owner also owns Scubadawgs diving in Bangbao. So all in all it's the best of both worlds - relaxation and activities. I stayed in one of the new glamping tents, and would highly recommend trying them out! The front-most tents have amazing views over the cliff, and it's so good to go to sleep and wake up to the sound of the sea below.
Clean, great view, friendly staff”
We stayed in a tent - style accommodation and it was such a great experience. The tents are very new and maintained clean - no bugs can come in unless you let your zip opened! The view was simply amazing every morning/sunset, sleeping to the sounds of wave, waking up with a bright sunrise above the sea. Toilet/shower facilities get cleaned very often so they're like new whenever you use them. Food was good, coffee in the morning was good, a couple of hammocks to chill out, and generally the place is very relaxed and beautiful. The only thing is the location, obviously it's right at the cliff so its a bit far from restaurants, 7/11, etc (10-15 mins walk in dark if at night) but you can easily rent a motorbike from the cottage and the problem is solved! Shaun, the owner, was very helpful and kind enough to give us a ride to another place as well - thank you so much for your kind gesture Shaun! Koh Chang is an absolutely stunning place, and I'm sure I'll be back and choose to stay at the cliff cottage!
little heaven ”
It's the perfect place for people/couples who prefer a relax and quiet environment. This tents are spacious and make you feel closer to the nature. Better to have a scooter to go around as it's not close from shops and restaurants. Very nice for snorkeling and kayaking.
Amazing stay at Cliff Cottages! I have stayed here several times before and will stay here again. The lounge is a great place to chill in a hammock with a cold beer after a day of awesome diving at the nearby; wrecks, local dive sites and, marine park. If you're lucky you may get to see a whale shark! The staff at cliff cottage very pleasant and helpful and give the resort a great family feel.
A stop in paradise ”
I had a great stay here for a week so great that I'm coming back for another three days now. Friendly staff, great chilled out location, good food, amazing views, great snorkelling just in the bay and the basic huts were much nicer than I expected from reading other reviews. They are basic but also clean with comfy beds and incredible views.
