Quiet and Uplifting Retreat”

Quiet, Very responsive and friendly staff and Far from the Madding Crowd

We stayed at the Settler's Cottage. It's pretty luxurious so we were happy with it. It's a quaint little place with beautifully kept gardens, a lot of different farm animals to amuse yourself with and a great view of the wind farm in the distance. Location wise, it is about 15-20 mins away from Port Fairy, which is not too far to go out for meals if you want to. I like the convenience of this place where you can choose to have your breakfast and/or dinner there, if you order in advance. You can then have it in their very cosy and artfully decorated dining hall (the proprietress is a painter). But we were most impressed with how responsive the proprietor and his wife were when we complained about a strange smell coming out from the bedding. The moment we came back to the cottage, all the bedding was changed and the place was aired, etc. They were truly concerned about our stay. For which, we would like to thank them very much. We enjoyed our stay very much.

Unique and one of its kind experience”

The hotel design, the heater bed and the ample space

We were intrigued with the hotel reserving and maintaining the original train cable cars outlook and interior!! it is definitely a unique experience as our rooms are actually in the train cable itself. we took lots of photographs. The gardens around the hotel is beautiful and the owner has domestic animals for guests to interact with. However, bad points are: it is 20 mins drive from port fairy, toilet is small for its size, the pipe are rusty hence the water from the tap is not fit for drinking, even when we boil the water it still has a rusty taste, there is no amenities around the hotel , the closest is 20 mins drive to port fairy.

Cute as a button!”

Awesome place. Don't expect a "normal" B&B (the Breakfast bit is optional; not included). This is a great place to see some quirky train carriages and animals, and immerse yourself in a different overnight stay. About 20 minutes outside of Port Fairy, easy to find.

Somewhere unique to stay”

Unique, clean, cosy, 2 bedrooms, separate lounge area

I recently stayed here overnight with my sister. I chose the Bondi Express train as it was something different and had separate bedrooms, which many hotels don't. The bedrooms were spacious and beautifully decorated and quaint. The beds were comfortable and clean as were the other rooms. There was a separate lounge up a few stairs with 2 sofas, coffee table and tv. There is a bathroom and small kitchen (no stove or microwave but there is a cute little community kitchen nearby) there is also a. cafe/restaurant if you don't want to cook. We loved it and our only complaint was that we couldn't stay longer and enjoy the peaceful surrounds & animals- we said hello quickly to the alpacas and sheep and I met cockie the cockatoo who is a sweetie and sat on my shoulder, dancing and giving me kisses. Your cats and dogs are welcome too. Mobile phone reception is limited as is Internet if that is important to you! I hope to return and spend some time relaxing here and meeting all the animals and grabbing a meal or two.

BEST OF THE BEST”

Stayed in 6 different hotels during my trip. This is the cheapest, yet the best! Great concept. Rooms are all train carriages. We have animals roaming around freely outside your carriage. Enjoy the view of sky full of stars at night. Despite the concept, rooms are clean. Did not see any insect. Breakfast was great! Simple English breakfast - this is also the best breakfast I had during my trip. Will definitely return to this.

What a magical train ride! :)”

Once greeted by the kind hosts and their cute alpacas Coco, Kaluah and Champagne you will instantly fall in love with this place. Surrounded by picturesque farmland and a lush garden full of raspberries and other fruits, you can let all sorrows behind and embark on the beautifully restored train carriages. Staying here is like day dreaming! You can really feel all the meticulous effort and love the owners Geoff and Yuan have put into every detail of this magical place, from the romantic lookout porch in the back to the stuccoed ceiling in the train waggons. Staying here was certainly a highlight of our trip on the Great Ocean Road! :)

Location”

The cottage was good, the quietness and the roaming peacocks.

The Codrington Gardens B&B is about 25 kms outside Port Fairy and is totally isolated from everywhere. The are no shops or eateries close by. It needs to be more clearly explained what type of accommodation and location is being offered. Go fully stocked as if camping!

GOOD”

Quiet, food on site, friendly owner

Quiet & peaceful location. Dinner menu over priced for quantity & quality. Gardens neglected and not stated as per brochure. Train carriage accommodation good but not suited to hot summer days. Would be best suited to spring/autumn travellers. Male owner very nice and attentive but always seemed hurried during meal times.

Disappointing”

Gardens, animals, linen was clean

Unsure how a place can be stated "Bed and Breakfast" when breakfast is not automatically included in price. The standard & quality of accommodation was far from 4 star in my experience. Accom needs a major refresh & uplift to be charging these prices. Also location is misleading and is quite remote from "Port Fairy" as stated.

Loved the placed. Was pleasantly surprised to find animals on site alpacas and ponies were behind fences and many peacocks free roaming around. Had a cute cockatoo and numerous other birds around too. Very friendly staff as well. Had a mix up with agoda in terms of booking and he sorted it all out for us. That was a life saver, otherwise we would of had no where to stay. If you are expecting a fancy hotel, this is not it, but compared to when compared to a motel, this place is full of character and was truly a surprise. We loved it.

Acceptable”

My partner and I had a rare weekend off from working and decided to hit the road around the coast and we were drawn to the idea of staying in old train carriages. I read the reviews most were positive, some weren't. I take it all in stride when booking and I accept that everyone has varying needs when traveling. We arrived at 615pm to an unnatended office and knocked on the door. A woman answered and barely said a word. Walked us towards the carriage, pointed and walked off. She gave us no information regarding breakfast, no information regarding anything for that matter. She just walked off. We got through the cobwebs, carefully removed a couple of huntsmen spiders then went to town for dinner. In the morning we awoke and there was still nothing in regards to breakfast, so we left without a word from the venue. Needless to say, we are very disappointed in this lack of service. It was downright rude. Save your money and go elsewhere. Apparently it's a Bed & Breakfast. Nope. Just bed.
