We booked a room at the Penthouse Above Sea on a whim and because it seemed good. Nothing that you read online will prepare you for how good it is, how spectacular the view is, how wonderfully warm and friendly Chitra is, how much thought has gone into conceptualising and designing the spaces and how blissfully you will sleep at night. Situated on the 15th and 16th Floors of the building, the Penthouse Above Sea takes the best of serviced rooms/apartments and 5-star hotels and offers up a unique experience. Some rooms have a sea view, and being that high up, you'll get a fantastic view of the coast for miles, and with that a view of Colombo city. That there is a train station right across the road means you can take a train trip down the coast if that's appealing to you, although it seemed like the trains are incredibly slow. The charm of the place though is Chitra. She is absolutely wonderful, with an amazingly warm and welcoming energy, something that she has infused into the entire space. She's always smiling and so are the staff. The rooms are spotless, well laid out and the mattress is just so comfortable and cozy, you'll fall asleep in seconds. Bathrooms are just as spotless, and I'm saying that even though my expectations of a bathroom are extremely high. Their food is simple yet excellent, with the option of eating with other guests at a large long table or at one of many cozy tables located on the balcony. All in all, I would happily stay here over and over, and definitely see myself going back to Colombo to stay here, and also see the city. You cannot go wrong if you book here. In fact I would encourage you to book here over a hotel, you won't be disappointed; I know I wasn't.

We really enjoyed our stay! Having travelled by train from Galle, we got off at Mt. Lavinia and took a tuk tuk to the hotel which was far easier than going into central Colombo. On arrival, the staff were extremely friendly to the point where we ended up chatting to them for almost half an hour. The hotel was the cleanest we stayed in during our stay in Sri Lanka. The proximity to the beach is also a big plus and is worth visiting if you book here. We took the bus between the hotel and central Colombo and is an experience in itself, plus it only costs 20 rupees for the trip. Highly recommend booking here as it seems to be far greater value for money than the hotels closer to the city centre.

I stayed here for 5 days and 5 nights. The staff was very courteous, polite and co-operative. Special thanks to Guest Relations Executive, Ms. Priyangika, and Mr.Shenal, for providing good, useful inputs about the places to visit in Colombo and the most convenient modes of travel available. The Breakfast was very good and complimentary, the Hotel is equipped with all the modern amenities and caters to all kind of visitors, I.e. Solo travellers to large families. I would definitely recommend this Hotel for a cost-effective holiday in Colombo.

We had a very good experience staying in this hotel (apartment). It was very quiet and parking (temporarily) was not a problem. The staff was very friendly, specially front desk staff who checked in us (I think his name was Niranjan) was very helpful. Very efficient A/C in the bedroom but when I was doing some work in the computer in the living room of the apartment and A/C didn't reach the living room that well. The king bed we had in the bedroom was very comfortable, soft and sturdy. The bathroom was also very good with hotwater, but sometimes some bad sewer smell came, I don't know whether it was through the drains or the open window in the bathroom. We had an electric kettle, cups, plates and nice tea bags and sugar, and I would have preferred if they had provided milk powder packets also. Overall we liked the stay and definitely we will stay there when we go back to Wellawatte.

The staff at this hotel treated us like family. They went out of their way to accommodate us. Whether we needed help with rides, places to eat, booking trips or internet access, they did everything they could to keep us safe and prices fair. And it was all done with a smile and kindness. The breakfast view is fantastic, the hotel restaurant convenient in the evenings. The facilities are kept clean and cameras provide excellent security. This is the second time I have chosen to stay here.

I have never been able to stay in this place though payment was released. When I reached the apartment, someone appeared and said, there is no apartment available it is a mistake to mention apartment is vacant. One of the staff tried to refund my money with $200 less than what I paid for 9days. Finally, I had to fight and then they said, again it is a mistake and refunded my full amount. If I haven't been tough on them, I am would be refunded less than what I paid. The apartment owners left me and my family on the street. Pls be cautious before you book this apartment.

We stayed at Seaview for a total of 9 nights and we enjoyed the place very much. It's very close to the train station, we went between Dehiwala and Fort often, as well as to Bambalapitiya to apply and wait for our Indian visas. As backpackers, Seaview was the cheapest option in Colombo area and very comfortable. Very clean, and the lady who runs the place is so so so friendly and warm! She is lovely. There is a simple toast and boiled egg breakfast included and just down the street a cheap place called New Star has good local eats. Highly recommend Seaview as a place to stay and meet other travelers!

The Mirage Colombo was perfect for me to spend a few days at the end of a Sri Lankan tour. My room with a sea view was clean and spacious. The chairs by the window provided a lovely place to people watch (especially the people hanging onto the outside of the passing trains at peak hour) and see the beautiful sunsets. The train line does run parallel with the hotel but the noises did not concern me. It was some distance from the main bazaar but tuk tuks were quite cheap. As it was the end of my holiday, I was content with less chaos and happily wandered through the local shops one block back from the sea.

Raja house is a lovely place to stay, just one minute from the beach, and away from the hustle and bustle of Colombo (which is merely a short taxi ride away) the rooms were clean, shower hot, but best of all was the receptionist Premod, who was the friendliest person I met in Sri Lanka, always willing to help book transport or dinner or give advice on Sri Lanka. I would happily recommend this hotel!

We stayed in a spacious 2-bedroom apartment for 3 nights. There were 4 of us but the apt could accommodate up to 6 adults. Clean, with good location - close to the main road the Galle Road and close to the beach. The staff/owner were very helpful, willing to entertain our request at any time. It is also better to get help for car rental from the staff as they can advise on the places and pricing. We were a little disappointed with the car & driver /tour package that we had booked at the airport as they seemed to be interested in taking us to the places where they can get commission and not the places we wanted to go.

before i arrived at Colombo the boss communicated with me to confirm our time of approval and he got his manager to wait for us.He check us in and was very helpful and he helped me get some information that I needed. he recommended us where to go shopping and his wifi is good and he allowed me to extend till 5 pm without any additional charges. the only problem was there was low water pressure at the kitchen due to a problem from the building and the owner was very concerned about his service and i would definitely come and stay again.

We arrived at the location on the map at about 8pm and were then taken on a 5-10 minute ride to another complex. At first, being led down an alleyway, we thought we were getting mugged but then we pulled into a modern garage. The room was a full apartment with three bathrooms, three bedrooms, a full kitchen and a full sitting/tv room. We were very surprised, especially seeing as we only paid for a double room. Very good value for money. No air conditioning and the wifi is unusable.
