On arriving at Flames, i got signed in by the receptionist. She was a lovely lady and very good at her job. She showed me where the stairs were to get to our room, also the door to the carport, showed me the security door that gets locked. We had a delicious meal delivered by room service. Our stay was great and would certainly stay again many thanks...Beryl

This Hotel is great the staff were excellent...being 81 years old they helped me with my bags to our room....nothing was any trouble. The situation of the Hotel was great....Onerahi shops were a stone throw away for anything you had forgotten to pack, this was our second stay here and will certainly be back.....Regards Beryl

excellent staff food beds and a large bath and room actually has sky and a sea view with a balcony ,best so far in Whangarei excellent room service love the uniforms .nice bar area and private and quiet loved our stay here will come again nice garden and viewing platform to waterfall

Comfortable Family Hotel”
We thoroughly enjoyed our time at the Flames - up there for the Colgate Athletics games, so the Pool was used in between events to cool down on the hot competition days! About 10min from Central Whangarei, but in a lovely quiet area with the local stores across the road and a bar/restaurant also available. Easy to locate, and handy to the aiport, day trips galore to be had within the Whangarei region. A great place for the family to base themselves at.

Beach holiday”
A great location for entry to the Whangarei Heads & beaches. The hotel is old, 1970s era and will probably need a major upgrade in a few years. Booked a family room which was a large twin room with queen bed, single and a rollaway (which wasn't setup). Deck with great view across the valley and pool below. Room was quiet due to concrete block walls between rooms and included aircon to keep cool. Bathroom was clean but the shower mixer needed a university degree to operate and far too hot. No safe and only 1 key. Booked for 4 and only 3 towels provided. Pool safe for kids at only 1m deep and also a spa pool in corner although have to get key from reception (ignore room guide which advises $10 to use spa). Breakfast is available but go early as it starts to disappear around 9am. Continental is basic with standard cereals, fresh & canned fruit, yogurt and TipTop bread for toast.

Good place, but WiFi internet is poor”
Our stay here was fine. The rooms were decent, but the hotel feels a little dated. The rooms are supposed to have WiFi connections in all the rooms, but we could only get a very flaky connection while standing near the door. We got slightly better connections if we stood in the hall way.

The heater does not work correctly it switches off too early, thermostat faulty. The scope heater is a very good heater probably little outdated, I was selling & fixing them as an electrician over 35 years ago, same model. I was impressed with your hotel, has a lot of potential.Looks good. I was told on Friday night when I arrived that here was no breakfast in restaurant which was a little disappointing, maybe don't advertise it. I was told only two guests so no breaky, sorry that's your problem not ours if you cant afford to pay staff, that's not how it works. Otherwise very clean good staff etc etc.

Great location, but old fashioned lappliances”
The Hotel was clean and quite the two nights we stayed. However there was no cooked breakfast option - continental only, There was no easy access to wireless or broadband connection,and an old fashioned very small TV on a trolly in the room. When I think of an international hotel I think modern applicaes, like flat screen TV with chanel options, easy wireless or broadband connections per room. When we checked in, reception took a while. However i suppose you get waht you pay for, the room was clean and quiet, lovely surroundings.

Nice comfortable room with nice view”
We found it to be very good value. The quiet location with a view over the pool and palm trees to the distant harbour gave a resort feel. the black out curtains gave us a nice sleep in til check out. The bed was a bit soft for my liking and made us roll together into the middle, however overall we really enjoyed our stay and recommend it to others.
