stayed in this capsule hostel before, first thing that came to my mind was to rebook this hostel again. awesome location, very near to subway station and right in the middle of restaurants and eateries. bed is very cozy and shower room is safe for ladies
Amazing facilities inside!”
We loved very much our stays here. Very complete facilities inside, especially the shower area. Refill drinks and soups can be gotten for ur reading time. Though The hotel was a bit unsure from its outside appearancd because it was inside market complex which is very crowded. But overAll was very satifying.

For Manga Lovers, An Excellent Stay!”
In Kyoto, there is a place hidden among all gems of a place to stay. Comics & Capsule Hotel provides that gem. Its not hard to find this place but right near the Shinkyogoku Street Market, its a wonderful place to be. Manga lovers will want to spend a long time in this place. There's a Standard Room and a Deluxe Room to choose from. For me, the Standard Room is like a library of mangas, except with beds. You can bring any manga to read at your own comfort. There's a lounge where you can eat and drink while reading. There is a comfortable sofa where you can bring your drinks and lie down at your own comfort. Their facilities is a dream - laundromat, shower stall, toiletries worthy, free Wi-Fi and more! The staff is super friendly, and yes, they speak minimal English and that's okay because talk to them with simple and basic English, they can help you in many ways. My stay at this place is the best I have ever experience.
Excellent accomodation near Kyoto attractions.”
Very accomodating staff, well supplied amenities, and a huge library of manga (Japanese) for your perusal. Nishiki Market is a few minutes walk away so be careful with spending too much if you stay here.
Exceed my expectation!”
Super great location, the hotel is located at Shinkyogoku Shopping Street with a lot of restaurants and shops. Walking distance to Nishiki market and kawaramachi shopping area. The hotel is full of comic and the common area is so comfy to chill in. Clean shower room and toilet. Free drinks are provided 24 hours. I am impressed by the amazing shower room for ladies. Definitely will come back again.
Best experience ever!!!”
This is the best hostel I have ever stayed!! Friendly staff and great location, 2 mins walk from Hankyu line. I would definitely choose COMICAP if I have the chance to visit Kyoto again. Thank you so much for the great experience. すごくおすすめ！
Hotel that misses the basics”
While the hotel seems to have all the bells and whistles, vital parts of a stay are missing and led us to leave a day early. The staff doesn't make eye contact, they don't engage. When there is a problem or you have a question, they use a translator machine and you go back and forth instead of trying to have a human interaction. It's frustrating but also sad, especially after staying in rural areas where staff are much more willing to try to communicate even if they don't speak English. Having said that, in a hostel that is charging nearly $40 per night, you expect someone to be able to communicate in English. We had a medical emergency and never felt confident in asking for their help. The other glaring issue with this hostel, which they don't advertise, is that you have to pay to use the common area between 10am-3pm, and that you are kicked out of your bedroom during those same hours for cleaning. If you are sick or if you need to work, there's no space to do so.
A gem dorm. Clean and sparkling”
The deluxe dorm has more privacy, as there is no Manga racks beside your bed, although it is also rare for people to look for Manga in the dorm area. The reading area is super cozy, with lie down beds and beanbags! Not to mention unlimited drinks n some alcohol all day. The only downside of the hotel is that you are given 3 keys to juggle with. 1 for your shoebox, 1 for your luggage storage locker, and 1 for your shower locker. Was overwhelmed by that. Shld have remove the need for the shoe box keys, or made electronic. Overall very satisfied.
Long stay not recommended ”
The hostel deserves a lot of nice things to say and is perfect to stay for a couple of days as you can read in the reviews but if you want to stay longer read this: I first stayed for one night and then made a one week booking- it was a good deal. However between 11 am and 3 pm they kick you out, you can’t stay in the hostel, maybe in your bed yes but no use of common areas. There is no kitchen, only microwave so is not convenient for long stay. The staff doesn’t speak any English and look like unhappy and stressed ( of course they are polite), you will never know that there is a 24h free drinks bar downstairs unless you ask for filling your water bottle. Forget about getting any info about getting around in Kyoto. And if you want to meet people this is not the place, everyone chills out in the comfy lounge area and no words are spoken nowhere. I totally stayed for 12 days, l don’t regret because it was also comfortable, central and clean.
Very clean, very good facilities and utilities ”
Japan hostel is the most clean compared with many Europe hostels that I have ever stayed. This one is also very clean and offer many utilities, almost everything u need for bath, fresh up. surrounded by lots of comics books, it is a heaven for comics lovers
Spot-on location ”
The location of this hotel is spot on. Shinkyogoku and Teramachi are wonderful shopping streets for traditional crafts like sensu fans, kanzashi and vintage kimono. And don't forget to grab a beer and have dinner at Nishiki Market.
Super clean, quite, cozy, the atmosphere is super comfy, and the sofas and chairs are all very comfy! Of course also the bed! The cost and performance is super good! I enjoyed my stay very much and I definitely would like to use it again! :)
Please note that during the day you are not allowed to sit in the common area as they are cleaning the facility.
Well stocked amenities. Quiet and cozy. Great location with the Nishi Market right outside for all the strange and delicious food you want.
For a relaxing time....”
This is not a party hostel. If you want a nice quiet place to relax and read or plan the next few days this is the place for you. There are a lot of manga readers and you could start conversations with them but mostly people keep to themselves. The staff is really good at their job and the place is super clean with all the amenities provided.
I felt very relaxed and comfortable during my stay at Comicap. Convenient facilities and friendly staff make me feel at home. I enjoyed reading the books at the lounge. Btw the makeup room here is amazingly considerate for ladies.
If you like comic books and can read Japanese this is the place for you! As with most Japanese hostels the place is clean. This is not really the kind of hostel you go to make friends and chat in the common spaces. Most guests are super quiet and keep to their own reading comic books. There isn't a fridge for you to keep anything, but with the market being so close and many other food options nearby it's not that big of a deal. The bathrooms have a lot of amenities so you really don't have to bring much. If you aren't keep on climbing small ladders to get to a top bunk ask for a bottom bunk.
The place is so lovely!”
This place is near downtown and there r a lot of restaurants n shops around. Inside of the place is also very cute, they really got so many comic books,n I like the shower, they got anything u need, towels, hair dryer, lotion, etc. I would like to command to friends.
