Superb Mid-Winter Break in the Sun”
Our four week holiday at Coral Sands was one of the best that we can remember. Opening the bedroom curtains, our view was over the well maintained gardens then onward across the clean sands to the welcoming sea and coral reef. The people of Sri Lanka are warm and friendly, and the hotel staff were similarly attentive, caring and efficient. Our room was mainained to a good clean standard, though the decor was a little tired and dated. The restaurant offered a good selection of food to suit most tastes; however if you do hate curry, then your choices would inevitably be reduced. Service was buffet style, with staff on hand to assist you and clear any empty dishes promptly. The restaurant staff were particularly attentive. This is a privately owned hotel, and it shows. There is good attention to detail in all areas of service. Over the years we have travelled the world, but never stayed at any hotel more than once; Coral Sands could well be that exception
Exceptional Stay! ”
Visited the Coral sands right after a tiring trip to Yala. We were booked on Deluxe but on arrival was upgraded to Super Deluxe a room with VIP treatment plus a Jacuzzi. From the moment we stepped into this place everything was awesome. The friendliness and hospitality of the staff was amazing. I was at 1st reluctant to travel to this place because of the bad reviews but was shocked at how they have improved themselves. To sum all up I would definitely give them a 5* review and wod live to come back once again with my kids. The location is the best in the area with the rooms facing the ocean and excellent for scuba diving, snorkeling and glass bottom boats. Sadly there were not many fish or corals due to the environmental pollution. But its a great place to enjoy your 1st dive😊 Awesome getaway and will be back sooner than we thought we would👍
A great beach experience”
Our experience at the Coral sands hotel was highly memorable mainly because of the facilities available, proximity to the beach & amicable staff. Despite the hotel being overbooked, the staff was quite efficient in giving us a very smooth check-in. The welcome drink was refreshing, the pools great and the staff very well-informed & helpful. The cherry on the cake was the special Valentine's Day dinner. All in all, a highly recommended hotel in all respects!
Great hotel - caring and hospitable staff”
I was a little apprehensive about staying in Hikkadua as there do not seem to be any 5 star hotels in the area as the main attraction is travellers and surfers. Coral Sands is on a great beach where snorkelling was fun with a large green turtle that was in the shallow waters every day. The staff are very friendly and helpful. Sanjaya at reception was particularly helpful and knowledgeable about the island. The refurbished rooms are comfortable and spacious, the food was great and the service excellent. Free wifi in public areas was working throughout my 7 day stay and should probably be extended to the rooms. Room service was not available and again, something that could be implemented in the future.
Simply Awesome Holiday”
Simply awesome place. We had a fantastic holiday after a long time with thanks to the amazing team at Coral Sands Hotel. It was a beautiful experience from my first call to the Hotel, to the point of check out. Dining experience was excellent with good food, exceptional customer service, and totally relaxing atmosphere. Pool was clean and the environment was calm making it a perfect place for a holiday. Friendliness and helpful nature of all the staff, and individualized care, made us feel that we were staying in one of the world's best hotels. Great value for the money and the time spent there.
One of Best Hotels i have been in Sri Lanka”
This Hotel is stunning and right on the beach and the main road (other side). Staff is friendly and helpfull the even printed my boardingpasses for me when i asked and gave i booked an extra night with the same condition as booked on Agoda at the reception. Everything is well organized maybe best hotel i have been in Sri Lanka. I recommend this hotel if you go to Hikkaduwa ;)
Nice hotel on the beach”
The hotel is nicely situated on the beach of Hikkaduwa within walking distance of shops and restaurants. Nice rooms overlooking the ocean. Friendly staff en varied food for breakfast. We only tried the buffet in the evening, as there are so many other places you can have lunch and dinner. The hotel offers 2 swimming pools and enough sun beds. The xl-rooms even have a private terrace with sun beds and an umbrella.
Hikkaduwa, we'll be back!”
The stay at the hotel was superb, I'm glad that I settled on this hotel versus the other options. During my stay in Hikkaduwa I realised it was the best hotel around. The rooms were clean, the pools brilliantly located, the ocean view was breath taking and the staff was beyond kind! Yes, there was an issue with the wifi because it was only available in one spot, ideally it should be accessible in all rooms. But, overall nothing to complain about. A mist visit!
"I would recommend Coral Sands Hotel as it has a super location with coral reef just in front of rooms with great sea view. The structure of the hotel and rooms are well planned so that every guest has their own privacy and also enjoy the view of pool and sea! Very good service and facilities, including food made our stay a most memorable one."
Perfect in every way”
The Hotel is a 2 hour drive from the airport and cost us £40 for a luxury mini bus with air conditioning. The drive is pleasant and lots to see along the way. The rooms are clean and beds comfortable. Bathrooms basic but again clean and always plenty of hot water. Clean bedding & towels daily, they even provide an evening turn down service. Breakfast & dinner offered plenty of choice and varied daily. We stayed for the Christmas period and on Christmas eve, the gala dinner really was amazing, so much effort was made with staff working extra hard with the preparations for this event. The staff here are all happy and make every effort to make your stay enjoyable, nothing was too much trouble. The location is perfect, just on the beach. Security guards on the gate to the beach and at the front of Hotel, for 24hrs a day. You're not pestered by locals apart from the odd coconut seller or someone selling souvenirs, all very cheap prices, they are happy to barter too. Lunchtime snacks are available in the poolside bar as well as hot & cold drinks, all of which are cheap. Plenty of bars along the beach, again prices are cheap, an average lunchtime meal with a drink is around £2 to £3 per person. Beach is clean and glorious swimming and very safe. Snorkelling is amazing, the dive centres along the beach offer a package deal which is very good. We saw the giant turtles every day, they are so tame and will eat from your hand. Night life is good in the local bars which all back onto the beach, good music and great atmosphere. Tuk tuks whiz up and down the road all day & night, these cost £1 to take you from one end of the town to the other. We exchanged our currency at the airport and found that our money went a long way. If you want a rustic, un-commercial & relaxing holiday this Hotel is highly recommended. The Sri-Lankans are so welcoming and friendly, no frills, just a chilled out holiday destination with lots to see and do.
Superb. Staff were genuinely friendly and interested in each and every guest and were always ready to help or advise.Rooms were very good and 'on the whole' the food was very good (remember the saying ...'you can please all the people some of the time, and some of the people all the time - you can't please all the people all of the time.' That sums it up. In my humble opinion this hotel would be hard to beat unless you paid several times the cost and went 5 star. (and on that, the grounds 5 star up the road looked completely worn out and neglected. Take my advice - book the Coral Sands.
Great hotel, easy access to all things hikkaduwa ”
my sister and i stayed here for the weekend. very comfortable, great location on the beach, a great pool, access to snorkeling, atm across the road, ayeruvedic doctor also across the road. bfast and dinner were included in the rate, with a great variety served each night, with entertainment. the separate bar is also good fun.....i recommend the coral sands special cocktail! free wifi in public areas, but decent connection. all in all, easy and friendly staff, can come and go as needed a great hotel with amazing views of the sunset from most locations!
Hotel located just in the Hikkaduwa beach. we had a pleasant stay . rooms are little old but clean. swimming pool is maintained very well. buffet breakfast was excellent with lot of varieties and tasty food. ( Sri lankan/western ).
Warm and beautiful - inside and outside”
Overall extremely positive experience. One evening dinner cast a sour note on the whole experience. We had ordered some seafood noodles a la carte instead of having the dinner buffet and it took forever to come and when it came it was overcooked with a bad taste. We could not eat at all and ended up going to bed hungry as restaurants close down early at Hikkaduwa. However, the next day, the hotel staff apologized for the experience and made up for the same during the lunch. We were also informed that it would be easier if we had ordered the special non-buffet items early on over the phone so that they would have time to prepare instead of waiting at the restaurant.
Good base in Hikkaduwa”
Hikkaduwa's beaches can get swamped by masses of foreign tourists and the crowds generally overwhelm the natural wonders they have to offer, so it's essential to have good base; the Coral Sands Hotel is a good place to find this. Pool and bar are great spots to chill out and the staff make everything very easy for guests. Breakfast (included) is the best meal on offer with the best range of Sri Lanken and western food on offer. Dinner is decent but not as exciting as the surrounding restaurants. Rooms are perfectly quiet and spacious, cool and a great place for respite. Clean bathrooms, hot showers and room service is prompt by local standards.
Old, but Charming”
Coral Sands is an old property, but has the premier location for off-the-beach snorkeling in Hikkaduwa. If you want easy access to this snorkeling area filled with tons of fish several turtles, this is the place to stay. The food was quite good and the staff friendly. Thank you for a nice stay.
Awesome hotel & definitely recommended!”
I'll definitely go back to Coral Sands if I'm returning to Hikkadawa. Such friendly staff and great services. Staff had ensure our comfortability during our stay, and even during breakfast. Highly recommended!! All rooms have a very nice view over the beach & sunset. Nature lovers would be awed.
Nothing to rave about”
As I was traveling solo, I was recommended by a local tour agent in Sri Lanka to stay at Coral Sands Hotel versus the smaller establishments which I was looking at. I spent about SGD100/night. It is less than 5min away by tuk tuk from Hikkaduwa train station & the cost was about LKR70. The first impression at the hotel lobby was good. I could see the pool & the garden area dotted with deck chairs. There was a large sitting area for guests to lounge at, watch TV or use the wifi. Pros: The really big garden which runs parallel to the hotel & the beach. It is within walking distance to many eateries like Abbas which has the best Sri Lankan curry in my books. Further ones like Thambili Café could be reached by tuk tuk in 5min & cost about LKR 300. Cons: The really awful toilet. The pictures by other guests are as bad as it really is. Tiles had holes. I was visited by a huge cockroach in the night. The hotel staff who came to assist me initially could not find the roach even though I told him that I saw it escaping under the sink after I my poor attempt at killing it. He searched & searched to no avail then insisted that I must have been dreaming. I was kind of peeved by that comment. Who was he to doubt me? I insisted that it was there. Finally he agreed to return with an insect spray. After the spraying, the large roach must have suffocated in a hole in a tile & dropped onto the floor. I was able to go to bed in peace. The story continues though. I woke up the next morning & found another roach under the table! It was dying. So it must have been under the sink too! There were a couple of blackouts. That said, it might not be the hotel’s fault entirely. I experienced blackouts Abbas & walking along the streets. A good idea to bring along a small torch light just in case.
Great Stay, lovely location, good value”
We had a great stay at Coral Sands. We thought for the price it was excellent value. Rooms vary quite a bit, we stayed in X004 and it was one of the best rooms in the resort.
At the end of our tour in Sri Lanka we decided to spend some days near the sea and Hikkaduwa seemed a good place to stay. We spent 2 nights here in half board treatment and our opinion is absolutely positive. once arrived they provided us a wet towel to clean hands and a welcome fresh juice....very good! The pool area and the garden are well manteined and nice to see...and they give you immediately feeling of relax and peace. The restaurant is also good...breakfast and dinner are buffet style with a good choice of meals....meat, vegetable, fish, rice&curry, noodles and last but not least a grill area where to find sausages, fried vegetables bacon and homelettes just cooked...of course to finish fruit and desserts. A good place to stay at all. Good value for money.
