We had a perfect vacation and Corto del Mar Hotel is one of the major reasons. The feel of the hotel is classy and elegant. The Asian statues mesh well with the European architecture. The location is perfect, in the heart of the town. The hotel is accessible to church, plaza, market and tricycle terminal. It is walking distance from souvenir shops and other restaurants. The staff are very helpful and knowledgeable. Joseph, the receptionist, gave us sound recommendations on restaurants to try, souvenir shops to go to and directions to DIY Mt. Tapyas and Maquinit hot spring. The hotel also has a very good taste to recommend Calamian Tours and Travels that gave us superb island hopping experience. The hotel also has options if guests opt not to take the organized tour. The hotel has information about private boat rentals and entrance fees. We're really happy that we chose Corto del Mar Hotel. Other items... Transfers to and from the airport is free. They have free fast wifi! in rooms and common area. The room is spacious enough and the bed and pillows are comfy. The toilet has bidet. The soap is sweet scented oatmeal soap and the shower has hot and cold water. All rooms face the swimming pool. Pool temperature's just right and deepest is 8ft. There's a bridge over the pool (where I stayed when the sun's high up). The food is good, too, especially the pizza. We enjoyed breakfast too, especially sausage and scrambled eggs with bread, butter, jam. The hotel provided us beach towels to carry for our island tours. The staff are always courteous and accommodating.
Bottom Line Upfront: When we return to Coron, the Corto Del Mar will be our home away from home. The Corto Del Mar met our needs starting with airport arrival. Being this was our first visit to Coron, we were unaware that the normal trikes wouldn't be at the airport. Imagine our surprise and satisfaction to discover the hotel sent a car and driver to meet us and transport us to the hotel. Once we arrived, we were warmly greeted and expeditiously checked in. The hotel offers a variety of tours and we made use of the service. Tours were great and well organized and operated. The staff was exceptional and really contributed to the positive atmosphere of the hotel. Physically the hotel is great. Well constructed with great ambiance highlighted by antiques scattered throughout. The only negative things were the water pressure in the bathroom and the bath towels. The water pressure was up and down with the consequence being the hot water took over when the pressure dropped. You had to step out of the shower stream and wait for the pressure to rebuild before stepping back in to the shower stream or risk getting scalded. The issue with the bath towels is a minor one. The hotel is such a first rate facility yet the management scrimped on the quality of the bath towels. That was the one disappointment. The bath towels didn't convey the same level of comfort as the rest of the hotel. Again, when we travel back to Coron, the Corto Del Mar will be our home away from home.
Lovely Stay In Coron”
My friend and I really enjoyed our stay at Corto del Mar. The staff were very accommodating, the grounds were beautiful (pool, landscaping, decor, etc.) and we thought the food was great. Though the hotel is situated next to a very poor section of the town (dare I say, slums?) we loved being able to walk to all of the restaurants, shops, pier, etc. The room was spacious and clean. Watch out for opening the doors, though, as the mosquitos love to get in! The only thing that was bothersome and highly inconvenient was the lack of wifi. You could only get wifi in the lobby, and even that wasn't consistent. While it's good to "disconnect" on vacation, it's also pretty much a necessity to check your email, get flight information, text family members, and the like. My friend and I had to resort fo coffee shops (and even a nail salon) to get good wifi, which is something that should be fixed. Other than that, I would definitely stay at Corto del Mar once again. Palawan was truly amazing.
Very nice hotel - watch the roosters”
Corto del Mar is a very nice hotel. They provide shuttle from the airport, included with your rate. Breakfast was also included in the rate, there is a Continental, American, and Filipino option. They have pretty good pizza and a reasonable international menu. Pool was very nice, with lots of seating and a nice cocktail menu. Staff was very attentive and helpful. They have a connection with Calamian Tours and were able to provide many touring options. We took both the Coron Town Tour and the private Island tour and were very happy with the sights and the value. The only issue we had is not necessarily an issue with Corto del Mar, but a general problem with staying in urban areas in the Philippines. Get ready to wake up early! The blinds were worthless at keeping out sunlight and the roosters and dogs were screaming at 5 AM. I would recommend bringing an eye mask and ear plugs if you want to try to sleep past 6 AM.
Amazingly Fulfilling Stay”
Everything was well taken cared of. We had free transfers from airport to hotel. Their van is new and the drivers were accomodating. In the hotel, we were amazed by the wonderful interiors. The wood, materials and furnitures were really of high quality. We were welcomed by a very friendly staff. The welcome drink was mango juice which was so refreshing. Our room was also amazing. The only downside was the electricity was not on for 24hrs because of the typhoon Haiyan. But I heard everything is back to normal already since Dec 6. The swimming pool was beautiful especially at night. Our free breakfast isa complete. We get so full even if it isn't buffet! And oh, their mango-honey jam was heaven! Also, there is a tricycle always just steps away from the hotel. Most of the restaurants, the church and even the port are walking distance only, if you're up for it. They even have some recreational activities like a beautiful chess board and foosball! All in all we had an amazing getaway. Coron is one of the best places to be and Corto del Mar will complete your Coron vacation! =)
Great Retreat from Coron Town”
This hotel was a very welcome place of relaxation when arriving in Coron Town. The pool and grounds are beautiful and the restaurant was great. The bed and shower were the best we came across on Palawan! One thing I would recommend is booking a tour ahead of time for the day of arrival. We arrived around 10 and wanted to go to a beach but there are no nice beaches in driving distance from Coron Town and there were no boats available. Still, I would definitely recommend Corto del Mar if staying in Coron Town.
Secluded spot close to the action”
Corto del Mar was quiet enough to feel secluded but close enough to the activity of Coron Town so that there was plenty to do. The room was comfortable, spacious and had everything we needed. There was a shortage of hot water (but that's everywhere on Palawan) and the street directly outside the hotel could have done with some cleaning up. Also, the area around the pool wasn't the most comfortable to laze around in as it was quite dusty in places and the deck chairs were directly in front of other patron's rooms. Other than that, I would recommend the hotel for convenience and comfort. I would certainly stay here again.
First time to Coron and chose the hotel as we stayed, the location is not in center of town, but it doesn't matter cause the town is small and walk to sea dive around 7-8 Mins. The hotel is new one opened in last Dec and everything fits our requests. The staffs are very friendly and helpful, my wife got stomachache at hotel and they paid high attention on that, and even can call doctor if my wife gets worse. I appreciate and Corto Del Mar hotel will be my only stay in Coron!
High standard hotel”
We stayed at this hotel for three nights. Coron was the first destination of our trip in The Philippines, and the Corto del Mar was just perfect to recover from the jet lag and enjoy our first moments in Palawan. The pool is amazing, and the restaurant met all our demands both for breakfast (included) and dinner. This is definitely a high standard hotel, worth the money. Recommended!
Staff was highly attentive to all our needs and extremely friendly. They gave us a sense of family and we never wanted for anything even after we checked out they still took care of us. Easy to setup transportation and trips all over the island. The rooms were in great condition and kept clean. Aircon was quiet and worked flawlessly. The restaurant staff and food were great. Fast service and friendly atmosphere. All together the hotel is excellent giving you the feel of a five stat hotel im a quaint little location. Thank you Corto Del Mar for a pleasant experience in Coron
Brand New, Beautiful Character and Friendly Staff”
Shuttle from the airport was on time, and included in the price of the room. I was travelling with my parents and grandmother who were over visiting me in the Philippines. I chose Corto del Mar Hotel because it seemed to have some of the comforts my parents would appreciate without being as pricy or hard to get to as some of the island resort accomodation. It was in Coron Town, thus giving us flexibility with boat tours, options for eating and proximity to the main attraction - Coron Island itself. The first impression upon entering is very good. Beautiful stone arches, dark, natural timber, a courtyard swimming pool as the centre piece, which, once the grass and trees get going, will be quite a place to relax. Unfortunately upon being shown to our lodgings, I found there was only one queen size bed in the room I was to share with my grandmother, even though I had requested when booking that one of the rooms have two single beds. After politley turning down a noisier room near the generators (needed to keep the Hotel in power during the daily scheduled "brown-outs"), a darker ground floor room that didn't do it for me, a matress on the floor, and even offering to help them lift a timber bed from one room into mine, the Hotel kindly upgraded us to the more spacious Juniour Suite. We gladly accepted! A queen size and single bed, a lounge area with beautiful cane furniture and a large balcony giving views over a ramshackle water village to jagged Coron Island. My parents noticed the lack of a bar fridge (due to power restrictions apparently) and coffee and tea making facilities. I didn't expect it in the Philippines to be honest anyway. The Hotel gladly let us use their towels for our boat trips during the day and gave us fresh ones for our bathroom at no extra cost. Typical of the Philippines, the staff are kind and friendly. If something wasn't as you'd expect just a kind request or reminder was all that was needed for them to oblige.
Efficient staff, wonderful location and design”
This was my second time at Corto del Mar Hotel and I was pleased to see that they have maintained the great service and standards they set when they opened last year. Food is still great and the staff friendly and efficient. Their quick response to emails etc. was what primarily got me to continue my trip to Coron even after Yolanda. Aside from the lack of wifi and generator power (meaning no power from 12mn-6pm), the hotel did not even seem to be affected by the typhoon. Will definitely go back!
A perfect way to complete the paradise experience of Coron within Coron town proper”
On our last day in Coron, my boyfriend and I decided to treat ourselves with a higher end accomodation, and Corto del Mar did not disappoint. The fine architecture and furnishings gave it a rustic and homey feel, and although it was at a higher price point, the level of comfort you get from the room and the services (included: airport transfer, free breakfast, etc.) made it quite worth it! A perfect way to complete the paradise experience of Coron within Coron town proper.
Coron is a simple town but Corto del Mar is a beautiful hotel with a great staff that make you feel very welcome from the moment you arrive. Pros: Nice pool, view of the ocean, walkable to town, clean new hotel with A/C and generator power. Free shuttle to airport. Hotel has great connections for scuba diving and island tours. Cons: Roosters crow at 6am all around the hotel. Wifi slow and only in lobby. No refrig in the rooms. Overall would definitely stay here again!
Very good location”
Located just at the city area. Walking distance to church, nearby eating places & commercial places. You can even walk to the docking areas to get your boat rides to the islands. Hotel has few rooms so its quiet. Rooms are clean and well maintained esp the bathrooms. Staff very accommodating. Breakfast was good too. Will definitely choose Corto del Mar if I go back to Coron.
Great place for diving and snorkeling”
We stayed 5 nights at Corto del Mar Hotel in Coron, first of all, the free shuttle van did not appeared while we arrived airport, it should be the reason of the delay of flight, no welcome board or staff who are waiting to pick up us, however, we were so lucky to meet another hotel Van driver to send us to the hotel in free charge. About our stay, the shower water are extremely unstable, either no hot water or it changed to boiled water in another second, we called to front desk about this issue for 3 times during our stay... Also, the air-conditioner was unstable, no cool wind but fan, which made our room's temperature kept in always 26-28 degree, and it was showing ERROR code, staff helped to fix it for 2-3 times too (maybe we were unlucky for that), however, staff are nice and with effective action after our request, only the machine and water control should improve. The breakfast is not in buffet style but by a la carte menu, no much choice, we almost having same breakfast in 5 days... No refrigerator and boiling machine in room. However, the hotel should be the most modern in Coron Town or at least top 3, about 10 mins walk from main street but very good, because quite quiet while night time. The room is clean and furniture are new instead, and staffs are quite nice.
Pretty hotel in the midst of a charming island ”
It was a very pleasant stay from my family and I. The pool provided a great place to lounge and relax. The rooms were comfortable and had both air conditioning and a ceiling fan. Cable TV had most international channels. The front desk had very helpful staff - Annie and Joanne who help with everything from arranging local tours to airport transfers. The bar/restaurant was well stocked with drinks and had a good range of cuisine - however the price is on the high side. The staff at the restaurant is a wonderful bunch, led by the manager Aries and two staff stands out for great service - Abegail and Maryjane. Overall a very welcoming, comfortable, relaxing and family friendly stay at Corto del Mar.
Best hotel in Coron”
We were Corto del Mar's #1 fans after staying here back in January which is why we returned back for a second visit this month. We stand behind our feelings that it is the best hotel in Coron, however, there were some issues that need to be worked out in order for it to be a true top of the line hotel. We were without internet for a few days which we all know isn't acceptable in this day and age. 2-3 days with no wifi is not ok, even if you should be disconnected from the world while you're enjoying the beauty of Coron. And they seemed to be out of a lot of things in the kitchen. Numerous drinks we ordered were not available because they did not have the ingredients (and I'm not talking about out of season fruit, they didn't have peanut butter). We understood we were here during the off season but there should be a separate menu if supplies are short on hand. And the bartender didn't really seem to know how to make the drinks well which is unfortunate given the drinks aren't cheap. The food was great! The pizzas are delicious! And the staff is really kind and attentive. So all in all we will stay here again when we come back and we hope that these issues get worked out before that day comes.
Still good but......”
I have stayed at Corto del Mar several times and would certainly recommend it as the best in Coron. Having said that, I was a little disappointed this time because many things were "out of stock" as far as the menu was concerned. The staff also, whilst very friendly as always, did not seem so attentive as though they were mainly trainees. Don't be put off by this it is still the best you will get in Coron town and without having to pay a fortune.
Me and my wife had a nice stay at Corto del Mar while having our holiday in Coron. The hotel is a bit expensive but it has a good location, near town and all the places you need to go. The rooms are comfortable, although the room we stayed in had a broken shower head, water was flowing like a hose
