Namibia hotels & accommodations

I was doing a tour of Southern Africa (highly recommended, by the way) and I had a day in Windhoek before I got my tour to the Namib desert started. It was a great choice. Great staff and nice amenities. The room was awesome. I just wish I would have brought my golf clubs.

one of the best hotels I've been to in Namibia! Bedroom, livingroom and toilet are luxuriously spacious, and well-furnished. Hot water with good pressure, and great view of the sea. Very well situated next to the beach and restaurants. Staff also very helpful. Will definitely stay here when I return to Swakopmund!

Hotel is located in Kleine Kuppe. Will need transport to go to town area for meeting. Take about 15 minutes to reach the CBD area in Independence Avenue. Surrounding hotel have Lady Pohamba hospital and shopping mall such as Grove Mall. Hotel staff is friendly and hotel breakfast is not bad.

The Swakopmund hotel is my preferred hotel in Swakopmund, where I have visited more than 20 times in the last 3 years. My client generally makes my reservation, this time I did, through Agoda, and got a better rate! It is nice, clean, comfortable, with good facilities and location. The in-room Wi-Fi generally works very well, there was a slight glitch this time as they...

Forget the brand hotels, this place offers spacious clean modern apartments right in the heart of Livingstone. The staff is friendly and helpful, easy walking distance to mall/markets/restaurants, we couldn't ask for anything more. There is a full kitchen with pots/pans/dishes/utensils so good for longer stay as well as a one night hop.

I simply wanted a decent place to stay for 2 nights over a weekend. The Agoda special price was a steal. The hotel is all as described in the review heading. There is no restaurant or bar, they are not needed because plenty of outside options nearby, and who patronizes hotel bars and restaurants anyway? That said, the breakfast was very good and plentiful. The rooms ar...

We were a group of 6 all over 60 and upon arrival, one of our toilets was leaking. The staff was accommodating and made a change of cabins and all was well. We would have liked an individual kettle and cups in each cabin, however, we were given a kettle to use in the bama - problem solved. We enjoyed the festive bar-b-que evening planned by the Lodge and the breakfa...

good , nice vieuw on th bay , the vieuw of the flamingo's , by the hunderd birds , the sea lions , and all to see from the terras , also nearby the harbour , with some nice restaurants ,and with the car only five minutes from the town center. not a big breakfast , but more than enough

The hotel was excellent value for money and exceeded all expectations. The bedroom and bathroom were spacious and the bed was extremely comfortable. The staff are extremely friendly and accommodating. The let us check in early and upgraded us to a room with a view when we arrived. The breakfast set up is fantastic with so much delicious food and great service. All...

On our recent trip to Namibia we stayed for two nights an Pension Steiner, both at the beginning and at the end of our stay. It is a quiet, pleasant small hotel tucked away at the end of a quiet street in the central city. It is easy to walk to other central attractions and one of the main shopping malls is literally opposite the hotel. The staff were very helpful, bot...

My husband and me spent two good nights at Beach Lodge. Because it was a rather short notice booking, we had to accept a standard room, as all the suites were fully booked. As a standard room, it pleasantly surprised us ! It had a lovely private balcony and the totally unspoilt views of the beach was utterly beautiful, both from the balcony and our bed alike ! The bath...

I was pleasantly surprised by the welcoming reception and very efficient staff who booked me in for my overnight stay, pre and again post my 6 day tour of Namibia. The room I slept in on my first visit was neat and welcoming. There was a slight leak from the shower which wet the bathroom floor and staff were most appreciative when informed about this. I was given a gro...

Reaching the lodge we were very excited, a lot of wildlife on the way and a beautiful reception area. The chalets were another story all together, a bit outdated and surely more suitable for families that solo travelers. But the worst was the dinner !! As the lodge is far from the city no choice but to eat there. Food was over priced, not enticing and surely not what t...

This is an amazing place to stay if you plan on staying in the same place for a few days. Very central. Walking distance to the jetty and the town and restaurants. Coffee shops close by. The rooms are spotless with the best linen and extra luxuries. I would recommend this to a friend as well as stay here again.

Needed to have a hotel on the way to the airport. Trans Kalahari Inn is situated at about 15 minutes drive to Hosea Kutako airport. The rooms were spacious and clean. The hotel has a nice terrace with spectacular view. The organisation was a little bit chaotic since they had a hard time finding my booking. They worked for about an hour searching their email to find the...

Very flexible ! (Unlike the car-rental company Aloe.) Our flight was delayed for over 48 hours and we were afraid we lost our booking. We were very happy that they were willing to alter the dates to the end of our journey instead of the beginning. Than we were back in Windhoek 1 day early and again no problem. We enjoyed the quiet place and friendly hosting! Don't do...

the accommodation was spotless and perfect. It bothered us that you had to go and collect your crockery and and other utensils from reception. Also we felt a bit degraded with the quality of the items. we would certainly not even have items in such condition in our house let alone eat from them and use them but not having other at our disposal we had to make do. we bel...

Liked the place and the location. They didn’t have my reservation in their system when I arrived and tried to charge me for a more expensive room. I had proof of my reservation on my phone and was able to get a room for the price I had booked after some convincing. The worst experience was when the staff called me a taxi back to Windhoek when I checked out of the hoste...

The location is really bad. It is far away from city center and you have to wait at least 30 mins for a taxi. And most drivers don;t know this place. There is no food/breakfast served and there is no restaurant nearby. If you want a breakfast, try your luck with a taxi. The room is clean but there is no other facilities in the hotel there is no public area for you to...

Very nice, unusual and originally designed lodge with German-speaking management between Windhoek and Etosha. The dinner on the terrace overlooking the waterhole is great. Also the breakfast was excellent. The staff was very helpful, printed out the boarding passes for the return flight and washed our car. Our room was very large, with its own terrace, from which you c...

My wife and I traveled down from Swakopmund to Noordoewer and stopped at Savanna Guest Farm on the way. We absolutely loved being in the middle of nowhere (we live in the hustle and bustle in Seoul, South Korea). We loved the hospitality we received - we were warmly welcomed, shown the walking trail on the farm and we sat down to a home cooked meal. The milky way is so...

A one night stay after arriving late into Windhoek. After a little confusion about my booking the manager was extremely helpful and accommodating. Unfortunately the B&B had suffered a lighting strike that knocked out WiFi but otherwise the room was comfortable and very clean. For a longer stay there is a very nice garden area and pool. Breakfast was very good with a go...

Hettie and husband Rean run this gem, in the middle of virtually nowhere. We arrived at sunset, after having to change a shredded tyre just kms from the village close-by. Rean heard of our ordeal and without asking he was on the phone calling suppliers so we could get a new spare tyre the next morning, this on a Sunday evening. Dinner was delicious country fare, roast ...

We stayed at Maison Ambre guest house for one night at the beginning of a two week driving tour of Namibia. Maison Ambre is conveniently located within safe walking distance of the center of Windhoek. On arrival we were met by the owners and shown to our wonderful suite. The compound is very secure and the villa/guest house is very comfortable. We had just come fro...

I stayed here for one night. I enjoyed basic service. The garden is well maintained. It is a little far from Oshakati Engen Service station. So I needed to take a taxi. Unfortunately, there are many mosquitoes in my room. It was summertime. Although mosquito nets have been already installed above the beds, I should find another way to repel them.

Very average accommodation. Stove didnt work and had no braai in the unit we had so it was hard to cook, chipped crockery and insufficient utensils supplied. Don't expect any help with carrying your luggage on arrival/departure, also note that there are no elevators available. Situated against a busy road so noisy. No key supplied to balcony. Linen and towels clean.

When we arrive there are many tourists and not enough staff. So nobody shows you where your room is, nobody comes to carry your luggage. I had the impression of being in a factory with people everywhere and I don't enjoy. But i liked the diner outside. It was great and good.

More about Namibia
Discover the Wonders of Namibia
Namibia is a land of striking contrasts and breathtaking beauty, where vast deserts meet rugged mountains and wildlife roams freely across expansive savannahs. From the iconic red dunes of Sossusvlei to the hauntingly beautiful Skeleton Coast, every corner of this country offers a unique experience that leaves travelers in awe. As you venture through Namibia, you'll encounter a rich tapestry of cultures, with indigenous tribes such as the Himba and San people, each contributing to the vibrant heritage of the nation.
One of the highlights of visiting Namibia is the opportunity to witness its incredible wildlife. The country is home to some of Africa's most diverse ecosystems, making it a prime destination for safari enthusiasts. Explore the renowned Etosha National Park, where you can see elephants, lions, and rhinos in their natural habitat. The park's unique salt pans provide a stunning backdrop for wildlife photography, especially during the dry season when animals gather around waterholes.
For those seeking adventure, Namibia offers a plethora of outdoor activities. Whether you're hiking through the Fish River Canyon, the second-largest canyon in the world, or sandboarding down the towering dunes at Swakopmund, there's no shortage of thrills to be had. With its vast open spaces and stunning landscapes, Namibia is a haven for nature lovers and adventure seekers alike. Be prepared to be captivated by the country's natural wonders, making it a must-visit destination on your travel list.
When to Experience Namibia's Beauty
The best time to visit Namibia largely depends on what you want to experience during your trip. Generally, the dry season, which runs from May to October, is considered the ideal time for wildlife viewing. During these months, animals congregate around water sources, making them easier to spot. The cooler temperatures also make it more comfortable for outdoor activities like hiking and exploring the national parks.
For those interested in photography, the months of late June to September offer exceptional lighting conditions, with clear skies and vibrant colors that enhance the stunning landscapes. However, if you prefer a more tranquil experience with fewer tourists, visiting during the shoulder seasons of April and November can be rewarding. The landscape is still beautiful, and you may find better deals on accommodations.
Another factor to consider is the rainy season, which typically occurs from November to March. While this period brings lush greenery and blooming flora, it can also lead to road closures in some areas and make wildlife viewing more challenging. However, the rains attract migratory birds and create a different kind of beauty, making it a fascinating time for birdwatchers and photographers. Planning your visit around these seasonal variations will ensure you experience Namibia at its best.
Essential Travel Tips for Namibia Adventures
Traveling in Namibia can be an exhilarating experience, but it's essential to be prepared. One of the first things to keep in mind is the vast distances between attractions, so renting a car is often the best way to explore. Opt for a 4x4 vehicle if you plan to venture into remote areas or national parks, as some roads can be rough. Always carry plenty of water, snacks, and a detailed map or GPS, as cell service may be limited in rural regions.
Understanding local customs can also enhance your travel experience. Namibians are known for their hospitality, and a friendly greeting goes a long way. Learning a few phrases in local languages, such as _Khoekhoegowab_ or _Oshiwambo_, can be appreciated by the locals. Additionally, dressing modestly is recommended, especially in rural areas, to show respect for the culture.
Safety is another important consideration. While Namibia is generally safe for tourists, it's wise to stay vigilant, especially in urban areas. Avoid walking alone at night and keep your belongings secure. Travel insurance is highly recommended to cover any unexpected incidents. Lastly, don’t forget to pack essentials like sunscreen, a hat, and insect repellent, as the sun can be intense, and some areas may have mosquitoes. Being well-prepared will ensure a smooth and enjoyable adventure in this remarkable country.

Don't hesitate to haggle a little; it's a common practice in many markets and can lead to a fun and engaging shopping experience.

Transportation Details for Smooth Travels in Namibia
Getting around Namibia requires some planning due to the vast distances between attractions. Renting a car is the most popular option, offering the freedom to explore at your own pace. Many rental agencies provide 4x4 vehicles, which are ideal for navigating the rugged terrain of national parks and remote areas. It's advisable to book your vehicle in advance, especially during peak tourist seasons, to ensure availability.
If driving isn’t your preference, consider joining a guided tour. Numerous operators offer comprehensive packages that include transportation, accommodation, and guided experiences. This option is excellent for those who want to delve deeper into Namibia's culture and wildlife without the hassle of planning every detail. Tours can range from day trips to multi-day adventures, catering to various interests and budgets.
Public transport is available but can be limited, especially in rural areas. Buses connect major towns, but schedules may not always align with tourist itineraries. For short distances, taxis and shuttle services are available in cities like Windhoek and Swakopmund. Engaging with local transport options can add to the adventure, but planning ahead is key to ensuring a smooth travel experience.
Practical Travel Information for Namibia Explorers
Before setting off on your Namibian adventure, it’s essential to gather practical travel information. Visa requirements can vary based on nationality, so checking in advance is crucial. Many travelers can enter Namibia visa-free for short stays, but it’s always best to confirm current regulations before booking your trip.
Health precautions are also important. While Namibia is generally safe for travelers, it’s advisable to consult with a healthcare provider about vaccinations and health recommendations specific to the region. Malaria is present in some areas, particularly in the north, so taking preventive measures is wise. Additionally, travel insurance is highly recommended to cover any unexpected medical needs or trip cancellations.
Lastly, familiarize yourself with the local currency, the Namibian Dollar (NAD), which is pegged to the South African Rand. Credit cards are widely accepted in urban areas, but it’s wise to carry cash for remote locations. Understanding these practical aspects will help ensure your trip to Namibia is enjoyable and stress-free.
Crafting Your Perfect Namibia Travel Itinerary
Planning your itinerary in Namibia can be an exciting process, given the wealth of attractions and experiences available. Start by identifying your interests—whether they lie in wildlife, culture, or adventure. Popular routes often include a combination of national parks, such as Etosha and Namib-Naukluft, along with cultural experiences in towns like Windhoek and Swakopmund.
For a well-rounded experience, consider spending a few days in Etosha National Park for wildlife viewing, then head to Sossusvlei to explore the stunning dunes. A stop in Swakopmund allows for beach relaxation and adventure activities, such as sandboarding or quad biking. Don’t forget to allocate some time for cultural experiences, like visiting local markets or engaging with indigenous communities.
Be sure to factor in travel times, as distances can be deceivingly long. It’s advisable to allow for some flexibility in your schedule to accommodate spontaneous adventures or rest days. Creating a balanced itinerary that includes both exploration and relaxation will make for a fulfilling Namibian journey.
