Racing trip”

This place is ideal if u drive, but a little out of the way. Stayed here for the races. Not much to do around about the hotel. Rooms are lovely and comfortable. There was a wedding on whilst we were staying g and it was very noisy. Had we known in advance we wouldn't have booked. No sleep the night of the wedding.

Good pool, sauna and steam room. The room was spotless. Staff were really helpful

One night stop over ”

We stayed at this hotel for one night with our 2 year old. Booked a suite and had plenty of room. Bathroom looked a bit sorry for itself and had a leaky tap. But pleasant otherwise. Hotel restaurant seemed overly priced so ate elsewhere.

Home from home...bring your pet”

What an absolutely gorgeous stay! We brought our dog Smudge...who was made to feel just as welcome (if not more than us) 😂. There was a welcome pack for him and he even had his own bed for just £15 per night...he has loved every minute of it. Our stay was just perfect for us...so relaxing but a lively atmosphere in the bar if you fancy that...you can take your pet too. The only place they cannot go is the pool/gym and the restaurant. The whole staff team cannot do enough for you and seem to do everything with a smile..I did not speak to one person who seemed like they didn't want to be here... The rooms were spotless, perhaps not ultra modern but the decor works well across the whole hotel...also cleaned each day if required. We were enjoying ourselves so much, we booked an extra night 🙈 The pool is also really nice, when we visited it was nice and quiet and again very clean. Breakfast was also lovely with lots of quality produce and choice...the team set us a table up in the bar so Smudge could have breakfast with us 😍 We have signed up for membership whilst here and will definitely be back..

Room we had was standard. Was cleaned but not clean. The edges and corners of the carpets had build up of dust and dirt. Attention to detail throughout the hotel was lacking with basic painting and masticing needed. On the first night it rained and we was woken around midnight to the rainwater coming though the ceiling next to the bed and had to move rooms. It was cheaper for us to get a taxi to the town and have a meal followed by drinks in a local pub for the night, than to just have drinks in the hotel. On the plus side, the staff are extremely nice and helpful and did move our room quickly during the leaky roof. The spa , pool and gym facilities are small but used at the right time are more than adequate. The food on offer for breakfast, the quality and presentation gets a 5*. Lower prices for room and drinks, and a general manager with an eye for detail could make the stay a lot more enjoyable for guests.

Mercure is a nice, clean hotel with good facilities. The openning times of wellness centre are very convenient. Staff at the reception could be more informative.

From arrival to departure this hotel was an absolute pleasure to stay at. The staff were the best I've ever experienced! They go that extra mile to assist - they are an incredible team, I wish I could thank them all personally, but I've realised I'm not actually the Queen.. haha. The rooms are amazing and for the price we paid, we are all in awe. Those that stayed for breakfast next day said it was unbelievable value for money. Honestly, I could not fault it in any way. We had the time of our lives. Thank you all at Haydock Mercure. You're all an asset to this hotel, I hope the bosses appreciate your hard work!

First but not last!”

This was the first time we had stayed at The Thistle and booking online got us a good deal - well worth the money. The room was very comfortable and all amenities first class. Once we realised the heating was controlled from the bedroom wall (!!) we dropped it to a more comfortable setting! Certainly will be staying again especially after picking up one of the leaflets from reception!! The staff were very friendly and nothing too much trouble.

Great service and an enjoyable stay ”

We only stayed in the hotel for 1 night so didn't have a chance to use the gym or the swimming pool on site, although they did look very nice. We ate in the hotel and ordered room service and both were very good service and good quality. The hotel is very well kept and always looks clean, however it is slightly out dated. It's the perfect place to stay if you plan a trip to haydock racecourse as its walkable from the hotel. Would recommend
