It would be hard to find a better location and the harbor view room we had was lovely and comfortable., if convoluted to get to (elevator up, stairs down, hallway, stairs up), so definitely ask for help with your luggage. Also, front desk is not 24/7, so make arrangements ahead of time if you want to check in late or check out early.
Staff was great. Nice sized room. Parking can be difficult. Breakfast from menu and limited to one drink (do coffee in your room and juice at breakfast). Local area is party central.
Great location but..”
Clean rooms, great staff, great breakfast, but our room was too loud and we could hear every come and go in the halls and lift, as well as Street noise. Wifi was sketchy at times, depending on where you are in the building.
Had a lovely 2 night stay for Valentines Day - we came down from Brisbane, so the location was perfect. We were right on the waterfront, close to all the cruise options, roma mona ferry etc not to mention the restaurants. Easy walking distance to the city shops, hop on/off bus, info centre. The hotel has great dinning options (breakfast was included and were ample servings), and is a lively pub on Friday nights. So close to Salamanca as well. The rooms are clean and comfortable and made up daily. Honestly couldn't fault anything during our stay - would definitely recommend and return.
Value for money and good location. ”
Overall is good. But the bathroom facilities are not as user friendly. I can’t managed to fill up my kettle from the water taps. Because the basin was too shallow. And the water from the shower head was too fine and less pressure.
Great location but little parking. Nice reception staff.”
Noisy water front area. Expensive area in an expensive country.
Great location, great breakfast, super clean”
Love the location that is just across the port, even though our room was above the bar, it was quite during the night. The breakfast selection and presentation was amazing! The room and the hotel is very clean. Great value!
You cannot think of other hotel when it comes to location other than Customs House Hotel Hobart. It is in the heart of Hobart in front of the sea. If you want to go to Salamanca Market it is just 3-5 mins walk. It is located in the very corner of Murray st. The receptionist is very nice I forgot to ask her name but I think she is Asian. The food in the restaurant is really really good. It's not buffet but when it comes to hotel food I can rate their food as 5-star. Very classy ambiance of the restaurant and nice staffs as well. The hotel room is not that good as it is an old hotel I think. Our room doesnt have aircon but it is cold that time so that is okay. Overall experience was great and I would definitely recommend this hotel to my friends and relatives who wants to visit Hobart Tasmania.
Excellent hotel and the best staff”
We were lucky enough to secure a room for $206 for a night including breakfast. We found this to be a fantastic price for the quality of hotel and the excellent service provided. Special mention for staff member ‘Crystal’ for some great advice and going the extra mile.
Nearest hotel to Salamanca Market”
Nearest hotel to Salamanca Market. Consider opt for hotel taxi to & fro airport as the price is almost the same for airport transfer company. But airport transfer company do not stop outside the hotel. Breakfast is good! You have many choices everyday. Room is clean. Staff is helpful. Overall is good! Will stay again. Thanks
Good location, noisy on weekend, stairs”
Really good location but be aware that there are many stairs (in addition to the lift) so not suitable potentially for someone with mobility issues. Noisy on the weekend. Limited car spaces which you must book in advance to secure.
We stayed in Hobart for a wedding in October 2018. Location was awesome, close to pier, Salamanca Markets and city. Pity that they do not have access to parking but we survived. When we booked they warned that it might be noisy but it was not the case. Included breakfast was very good value for money and tasty as well.
Great Location and Value”
Great location and the manager and his staffs were very accomodating. Breakfast is included in all rates and the choice certainly great value too! One thing thou the shower head could be better. Lots of water but wrong direction of spraying.
Excellent all rounder - great location close to Salamanca and the wharf area, cooked breakfast included in tariff, friendly staff and spotless, well appointed rooms. Saying that, this is a heritage location with all the building quirks included.
our room was quite large and comfortable. Unfortunately it took a long time to check in, needed to wait for the manager. the rooms are above a pub with nice meals but the kitchen is closed by 9 - and it stays light in tassie later so you can easily lose track of time. Staff in the bar and kitchen were very friendly. windows dont open in the room.
In the heart of the action ”
Ideally situated near Salamanca place and over a bar, this hotel is a great place to stay when you plan to stay out late. It can be quiet noisy due to the pub and the proximity to other bars. The room was quite hot and a bit tiny but comfortable.
The room was clean and comfortable and in a great.”
My only con was it was a little noisy due to beinf on the front corner next to traffic lights. I had to close windows due to beeping of walk signals for pedestrians.
Perfect location, helpful staff, surprisingly quiet”
The Customs House Hotel was a bit older than I had expected from the online pics, but I really enjoyed my stay there. My room was at the back so no waterfront view but it meant it was much quieter than the average centrally located, still active pub. It also meant I had to get the lift up two floors, then walk down some stairs, through a passage and up more stairs to my room, which was a deterrent to retreating for a nap in the afternoon between performances at the wonderful Festival of Voices. Breakfast (included) was generous, with an a la carte option plus drink. I'd happily stay there again. Oh and the wicked Daci & Daci bakery is virtually next door on Murray St.
Brilliant location, super-helpful staff”
For a combination of comfort and character, really enjoyed week-long stay. A tip: the sandstone walls and double glazing conceal any noise from the street, but the same can't be said for noise from the restaurant and pub band, especially on the 1st floor. If you're after a quiet sleep, ask for a room on an upper floor. Staff were very accommodating and swapped my room. Views of waterfront from front rooms are lovely.
