Sadly I requested on booking.com that I needed twin beds, but waste of time as the Hotel does not bother to read or contact you before the stay that they didn't have that option. Not offer of a small credit for the inconvenience of having to share a double bed with a friend instead of single beds. The spa pool area is terrible, paint coming off the walls. We had to request for soap pump to be refilled. there is no complimentary shampoo, conditioner or moisturizers.
Would have been great if there was 24/7 service. Previous tenant pushed lock button on the inside of the bathroom door. Wife couldn't sleep as there was the sound of running water, got up and closed the bathroom door, thus locking it - Not the owner's fault. Couldn't use the loo during the nigh, rang "0" on phone at 3.30am, then knocked on office door. Had to relieve myself outside under a tree. Wife wanted to go to the Loo at 5.15am. Once again rang the office and knocked on the office door. Ended up driving to McDonalds to use the Loo. Room was clean and tidy. Bathroom door was unlocked at 7.45am. I would still recommend this motel to others, as I have stayed here previously on a number of occasions. A couple of hiccups this time.
Great place to stay in Taupo”
Very nice hotel with a great spa private room if you are a couple and want to relax. Nice also for the family as the lake is just near.
Good value and good mineral spa pool”
The motel is old and a bit worn out. But the studio unit we stayed in was spacious. It had a mineral spa pool in it. The Venetian Blinds didn't work properly, so you needed to keep the light off if you didn't want the neighbours to see you.
Thermal hot tub worth it”
We got a ground floor unit with a private thermal hot tub. Being able to fill up your own thermal pool with hot mineral water from 30-40m under the ground is pretty cool and you feel amazing when you get out. If you can overlook the dated and worn rooms/bathroom, then its worth just for the hot tub.
Not sure why I have to give my review a title”
We used 8 B&Bs for 10 nights, and 6 hotels/motels for 7 nights of our trip around New Zealand. We stayed at the Karaka Tree for two nights and it was clearly the best hotel/motel within our budget range.
Friendly and helpful staff would revisit again”
It was overnight and suited us perfectly, we enjoyed the private spa and attentive and helpful staff would certainly visit again We had a late checking and staff made it very easy to accomadate to our needs
Enjoy the mineral spa pool”
Enjoying good mineral spa pool that can fit 4 adults in our own room. For the ground floor, the spa pool is outside the room and the second floor, the spa pool is inside the room. During winter, it is too cold to have spa outside.
Great location, the hotel just in front of taupo e”
The room we stay is for 4 persons, one queen size bed inside the bedroom and 2 single sofa bed in the room. there have a private Jacuzzi in our room's balcony. The most wonderful is the hotel just in front of Taupo lake, that is so beutiful lake~
a very good sea view from hotel, nice place with the jacuzzi pool inside our room your children gonna love this room! and also the friendly staff who really want to show your where should you go around their place. However, wifi-internet is not free.
An awful stay with children and friends”
Family with children for 1 night stay. The owner (Ben) is reasonable and well mannered. The facility is very old and ran down. The rooms were not clean with dust easily found around wall, tables, doors. There were broken lights in our room, the tap in the kitchen was falling off. The motel is far out from town, so it's not convenient. you will need a car to get into town. The most shocking part of the stay, was that our children during play accidentally broken one of the windows in the bed room next to the outdoor spa baths. This absolute scared the crap out of us, as the glass was old fashion thin sharp glass. Family with children be very careful! We were very fortunate that our son did not get injured. The cost of repair was NZ289, as the new law insist you can only replace with new shatter glass. We tried to argue we should only pay partial as the old dangerous glass we broke is much cheaper than the new shatter glass. Not successful of course! Good luck staying here!
Affordable mineral bath motel ”
Our stay was great.
Cheap personal mineral spa”
Is ok for an overnight stay only (male traveller)”
Greeting was very good. No Milk in fridge. No soap / shampoo in bathroom. The Spa room was in a poor general condition and not particularly clean.
Staff were lovely and polite. Room and grounds were clean. Only down fall was there’s no air conditioning and the room can get quite hot and stuffy
Rooms don't have air con - stinking hot. Leak in the ceiling in bathroom Big leak in the outdoor pool
A little further out of Taupo town centre than we expected, we did a bit of driving back and forth because of this. Room itself was fine but looks better in pictures. It's old with a bit of paint to freshen it up but it's still old. Loved the spa bath but not the gurgling noises through the night as other apartments drained theirs! Needed some more hooks to hang clothes, towels etc in bathroom and spa room. Thought the step up into the shower was a little dangerous and the bathroom was very small considering the size of the overall room.
Noisy but ok”
The mineral spa was noisy for some reason without even having it on. There was a sound that came out of the spa holes periodically. Soap dispenser was empty. Noisy group of people kept us up until 2pm. The wardrobe had no Drawers to put our clothes, only hanging space. Location was convenient. Reception was helpful. Kitchen was well fitted out. Overall it was fine but I wouldn't stay there again.
This was ok to stay at for one night but certainly no longer. Both TVs didn't work properly. The tap in the kitchenette was hard to turn off, the shower screen was broken and I thought there should have been more kitchen utensils.
Nice at first glance but staying longer would reveal cons.”
Price was quite affordable. So I would say your getting what you're paying for. Stayed with my friends on a 4 bed suite with Mineral Hot Pool for 3 nights. 1st night: we were amazed at how clean it was and a cute kitchenette was there. 2nd day: House keeping was terrible. 1 bed was not made. Then the another bed still had old tissues placed under the linens 3rd day: House keeping was terrible again. Planned to use the Mineral pool only to find out that it was soiled. When we informed the receptionist, she said they couldn't clean that out and didn't do anything about it. We were thrilled about the mineral pool but then them claiming it's cleaned everyday (posted on the signage in the room), and seeing that soiled pool, made us realize the "Hot mineral pool" is only for description purposes to entice people to book in. But it's not sanitary to use at all. Receptionist was also rude when she asked for additional payment for our extra guest. Overall, I rate it a 2.
