“Very nice hotel”

“The hotel itself was brilliant; but the staff...”
The gorgeous ocean, the amazing rooms, the spa
Our Stay at Melia Zanzibar was quite amazing, the hotel, the rooms and the food were excellent. The staff however need more training or experience to cater to the hospitality industry. Asking them for anything was a mission, something as simple as rescheduling a booking was a 15 minute conversation on the phone; if you tried to leave a message for someone, thats another 30 minute ordeal or passing phones from one person to the other... it seems they never grasped the idea of a leaving a message for someone. At one of the restaurants when we asked for a side plate to butter our breads; the waitress repeated "plate" back to me with a blank stare as if I was asking her to get the moon! Worst of all, when my husband and I were in the bath, we had a staff walk into our room without a door bell or a knock on the door, and suffice to say he blatantly lied when we confronted him with the manager. Yes we should have locked the door, but the idea of staying in a hotel is that you dont expect staff to barge into your room especially because the system would advise that the room is occupied; and even more so without a knock on the door or a doorbell. But he walks in saying "i am here to fix the locks" The F&B manager made it a point to reverse this travesty amongst many others by offering a full board service and were particularly looked after Chef on the Jetty restaurant. Hotel is great, location, room, and food are all great; but please make sure you carry your weight in patience while trying to communicate with the staff.

“Good size”
Clean, very friendly staff
Great hotel with excellent service. However it was in middle of nowhere and there was nothing to do apart from stay in hotel. Didn't feel like we were even in Africa. Could only eat at the buffet restaurant as there was a dress code for other restaurants in hotel

“5 star hotel”
Clean, reliable, comfortable, relatively efficient
for african standards its a great hotel. we went their for our honey moon. you pay a bit more and you get solid service. if you are searching for a no mess no fuss hotel then its great. i can imagine its a good place if you have small children i personally was not overly impressed. it lacks authenticity and soul. its a sterile typical corporate hotel / resort. the type of place for those who lack imagination. if you're traveling to africa and want an authentic experience then this is not the place for you. the service at times can be sloppy, but this is typical for africa. you don't travel to africa if you want american service. stay in the us for that. but if you're paying a little more then you would expect a little bit better service. the biggest issue for the hotel is the beach. not a good beach at all. from morning until 4pm the tide is out and you cannot swim at the beach! disaster. cleanliess can be improved.

“Wonderful hotel, great staff, good location”
The staff was very nice, the rooms were very clean. A happy place to be
We only had 2 nights to stay there, but we really enjoyed our stay. Very professional and attentive staff in all areas. I look forward to coming back, to spend a little more time there

“Oui, mais... non !”
très bel hôtel, très beaux jardins parfaitement entretenus, très belle chambre petit déjeuner varié et de qualité pour le dîner, 2 possibilités : -restaurant buffet assez cher (45 usd/pers.) et pas renversant - restaurant à la carte ("aqua") mais il faut réserver avant 15h. rétrospectivement, la formule "all inclusive" (50 usd/jour/pers.) est sans doute la meilleure solution mais très mal expliquée à notre arrivée un point négatif, rédhibitoire, la qualité du service : épouvantable 1) erreur lors du check in : notre chambre a été facturée 2 fois. plus d'une semaine après, nous attendons encore le remboursement (un peu plus de 1300 usd !). aucun dédommagement ne nous a par ailleurs été proposé... car la direction de l'hôtel a considéré que nous n'avions subi aucun préjudice 2) fuite d'eau au plafond de notre salle de bain déclarée le 2e jour : à notre départ, le 4e jour, rien n'avait, semble-t-il, été fait 3) réservation du restaurant "aqua" pour le dîner : à notre arrivée, la réservation avait été mystérieusement annulée ... pas d'excuse et nécessité de s'énerver pour obtenir finalement une table personnel très inégal en termes d'amabilité et de prise en charge. globalement, une expérience client tres décevante pour un hôtel de ce standing
