Beautiful old home, friendly hosts, clean & spacious
The most relaxed I felt on our whole trip through Tassie. Felt like home, to be honest. Beautiful high ceilings, wonderful experience overall. Couldn't imagine booking anywhere else in Strahan if we go back.
Old fashioned hospitality and a beautiful venue”
Ormiston House is a beautifully maintained building, offering first-class hospitality and stunning surroundings. The rooms are sympathetically decorated to the history of the house and comfortably furnished with all the mod-cons. The continental breakfast was simple but delicious and provided a great variety. Peter, the Manager, was very hands-on and up for a chat anytime. The 5pm drinks was a great way to meet other guests and we ended up meeting some of them after dinner for a chat and drinks. Overall a great stay and would definitely stay there again and recommend to anyone wanting a step back in time with outstanding service.
History and charm of "to the manor born" and hosts exuding genuine warmth to boot ”
The warmth, hospitality and friendliness of the host coupled with the charm of Ormiston House itself really made Strahan a fantastic place to launch our forays into local attractions and activities including Hogarth Falls, a cruise on the Gordon River and a journey on the West Coast Wilderness Railway (to celebrate our 24 wedding anniversary) as well as the surrounding areas such as Queenstown, Zeehan and Rosebury. The history available surrounding Ormiston House and the work the hosts are doing on the grounds really added to the old world ambience of our stay. In addition, the information pack provided by the hosts on places of interest to see whilst travelling either from Hobart or Launceston was extremely useful. Thank you for everything as our stay at Ormiston House was a great way to finish off our two week nostalgic tour of Tassie.
Quite comfortable but the property needs painting and maintenance, so not really up to scratch
Gracious Old World Charm”
A simply delightful property with equally delightful hosts. From warm muffins shortly after arrival to lovely breakfasts along with a magnificent library cum cocktail lounge for a spot to relax. Large rooms are beautifully furnished in period pieces and delightfully comfortable - among the best in our opinion of world travel. A must for visitors to Strahan.
Fabulous stay in Strahan”
Was an absolutely fabulous place to stay! on my arrival to a wet cold rainy Strahan I was greeted with a warm raspberry muffin. The bed was really comfy, the bar is a quaint cosy place to sit & the proprietors are delightful. Continental Breakfast was also wonderful 😊
Ormiston - a must stay in Strahan”
We booked two nights for two rooms. The historic building has its charm and style. Rooms are spacious and clean. Most importantly, the landlady Carolyn has been very helpful and we are grateful to her hospitality. She would tell you where to go and where to eat along all possible routes getting into Strahan. Her home-made muffins/cookies are just so yummy and you would like to have more of it. The coffee packs they put in the room are also very good. Unfortunately, there are only five rooms in the complex and you have to be quick to get one if you are going to Strahan.
Comfortable and friendly”
It was nice to stay in such a historic house. We were met at the front door with a friendly greeting and shown around the house. Host was friendly and welcoming. All in all a good experience.
Beautiful home with character and wonderful hosts”
This home is lovely, it is inviting and almost transports you back in time with it's furnishings and atmosphere. Good location and access to attractions and restaurants. The hosts are lovely, welcome and departure muffins were a great treat :) Only issue is the room was very cold as previous guests had removed the remote for the heating system. Breakfast was continental, good choices and again wonderful service. Would definitely recommend this property.
Quality caring Staff”
Host was a genuine warm person who was lovely and looked after us. When we arrived Caroline had baked us cupcake on arrival and had some for us to take the next day when we left. Outstanding attention to details and making a guest feel valued
Great Stay..Good Host”
Amazing Location, very welcoming”
A very welcoming stay, warm and comfortable. A really enjoyable visit. Nothing was too much trouble. We would certainly recommend Ormiston House to travelers of all types.
Fantastic bed and breakfast”
Staff were very nice and helpful. We loved the muffins and croissants. Awesome water views from the attic.
Well, there were some reviews complaining about outdated facilities, but to me that where the charm was. Old furniture, brick-a-brack, old style fixtures. For the continental breakfast excellent jams were served. We had to ask for cheese, which however was promptly brought. The highlight however were croissants, freshly baked! The best I've had outside Paris. If you do not have a car it is a bit of a walk to the centre. Risby Cove is quite a good restaurant, BTW
Relaxing and cultural”
Beautiful old home and attentive service from host carolyn.
Accomodation beyond expectation”
Good in every way. From the greeting hello to the wave good bye you could not fault Ormiston House.
It was comfortable and friendly ”
It was lovely. Nice hostess. Helpful host. Clean. Lots of lovely little touches that made a difference. Followed up on things or us.
Nice decorations,, free wifi, not good value ”
Nice staff to introduce the hotel. Free wifi. Free parking. Free breakfast but only contential breakfast is provided. However, not good value for money with the old equipped hotel.
