The Convent Hunter Valley
Favourite place to stay love it everything was perfect
Bad management ”
A nasty experience in the hotel and was not properly managed by the hotel management. A racism incident against Asian by the local guests from the hotel.
The bathrooms should be updated. They were very spacious but the shower is incorporated into the bathtub and it would be virtually impossible for anyone who was elderly or disabled to use. We travelled with my elderly mother who was unable to have a shower. As it was only a one night stay it didn't matter that much but is less than ideal. The rooms were otherwise clean and large but given the price so they should be.
Beautiful building full of character with stunning gardens. ”
Loved the character of this former convent building. The huge verandas overlooking the gardens were to die for. Staff were wonderful and had no problem taking care of special requirements that one of our party had. Walking distance to Prpoer Tree Wines was also a plus. The only negative was that because it is an older building it could be a little bit noisy at times. Highly recommended for a special occasion.
Pretty hotel but Sad breakfast ”
It was not cheap but the brekkie on saturday was not what i hoped for. 4 main menu options were ok, but there was a cereal table and one fruit platter apart from it. No pastries or cakes. I've stayed at hotels with bigger rooms and heaps better breakfasts. I liked the outside look of the building. And i liked the fact that the varandah was shared only by the 2 rooms which we stayed at. That's about it.
English Country Charm”
We enjoyed our stay in the cosy ground floor room allocated to us. Being at a wedding, we felt like part of a big household including the wedding party. The best part of our stay included having a lovely bath after the festivities in the big, old tub and enjoying the delicious buffet breakfast with the wedding guests, including the bride and groom. The verandas and gardens are stunning.
Agoda didn't send our booking alteration through so no record of our booking on arrival..allocated their last room after half hour of phonecalls, which was a 'premier' room. Too close to reception (no privacy) & the noise from room above was ridiculous (bride from next day's wedding & her kids). Only possibility for sleep was 12pm -5am when room above were finally quiet (kids jumping around & other guests pacing around for hours. Checked out early on Saturday as room above was stomping around from 5am which wasn't relaxing at all. Price way too high for lack of sound proofing. Staff at desk could hear the noise clearly also but didn't do anything about it. Not worth 4.5 stars or $350 upwards a night. Waiting at reception to see if we could be allocated their only available room was frustrating & embarrassing. Really disappointed as I'd wanted to stay there for such a long time, & time away from kids with my husband is rare.
I will NEVER book The Convent or use Agoda for future bookings. I had booked for a family wedding but in the week beforehand I was empanelled on a jury for a criminal trial which meant I was unable to stay overnight. Their cancellation policy was completely inflexible in all ways and did not allow me to cancel the booking. Absolutely no goodwill or compensation was offered. I have reported them to the Fair Trading Dept because it is illegal to take a person's money and offer nothing for it. Very disappointed Wendy Hitchcock
This was as beautiful as I had imagined. So much room, such amazing pillows, a lovely bathroom, fantastic verandahs, relaxing view, tea and coffee in the room. The pool was a welcome break I. The 35+ heat, but a few more loungers would be nice. Easy parking and free wifi.
Nice boutique hotel but could do with an upgrade ”
Quaint hotel with lots of charm. Ideally located for exploring the region. Bathroom could do with updating and large bathtub, although charming is totally impracticable for most people particularly if elderly or with mobility issues. Breakfast was included in our booking but it was disappointing with little range to pick from.
Birthday celebration weekend”
The Convent Staff were fantastic!! especially Nathan our waiter at Circa 1876. Wonderful property and fantastic staff made our weekend very memorable. Thanks !!!
If you need reliable wifi, dont go there”
On the positive side very nice vietnamese staff and nice location. Their attitude towards the customer is ridiculous. The offer wifi for a fee. The free one is not usable and after a few minutes we get a message that we are unfair to them in wifi usage. We neither down or uploaded anything. Also the rooms are in need of renovation, a bit on the expensive side for what you get.

Signifies everything the Hunter Valley has to offer!!!
Beatifil Venue Central to the Hunter Valley”
Stunning drive up to the Convent is followed by by friendly and professional service and stunning rooms.
Facility was in a great location but the service and food (breakfast) were very disappointing.
Beautiful place, lovely rooms, amazing setting.
Too much money for what it is”
Nothing wrong with the property or staff, however, like anything else in the Hunter Valley, it's too much money for it is actually on offer. Check in is pretty late (3pm), check out pretty early (10am). It's a clean property, staff is friendly, however the room was pretty average and some services that I consider basic for any 3 star or above hotel - like room service, for example - are not available. Service can be slow at meal times as the receptionist is also the waiter or waitress serving at the restaurant. Again, it's not bad, but it's far worth the money they charge. In one word, over rated.
Very special place, great staff, great location...has historical restaurant as part of it but bookings must be made well in advance
Over priced ”
It is a very beautiful property however not what I would call value for money. A particular point of note, only allowed 1 cup of coffee for breakfast in pricing and no juice.
We had a most enjoyable stay”
