Truly a home away from home”
my friends were super glad to stay in this hostel. since we only had 2 days to tour surabaya and visit mt. bromo, we had a hard time deciding how to catch our flight back to kl if we commute our way from surabaya to cemoro lawang. good thing dyana, the hostess from da rifi, offered us a brilliant plan and even arranged the private car rental for us which took us from the airport at 12 midnight and brought us straight to tengger semeru national park in 3 hours, just in time for us to catch the sunrise at mt. penanjakan, overlooking mt. bromo. da rifi also sent an english-speaking tour guide with us, anang, who was very helpful in negotiating our 4x4 jeep rental fee. in fact, he did all the talking for us from paying for the park entrance fee to talking to the jeep driver. he even climbed with us to the peak of penanjakan using a trail that not so many tourists would have known. anang also gladly helped us arrange our car rental for a city tour the next day. he accompanied us to all the tourist spots we wanted to visit. super helpful staff and very comfy hostel with a homey feel. we were surprised to know that they offer free laundry. we can even cook our own meal! they also had options for meal delivery (especially for our case where we were too tired to go out to eat lunch after a gruelling hike from bromo). truly a home away from home!

Home away from home. Go above and beyond.”
I had a wonderful stay at Da Rifi. They went above and beyond my expectations to make me feel welcome. Ricky escorted me and two other guests to a neighborhood restaurant and we enjoyed a great meal. He was very patient and helpful as we tried to navigate the menu and meet everyone's dietary restrictions. Also, I left a valuable at the hostel and was not allowed to leave the airport. They made sure my item arrived safely and in time for me to catch my flight. Will definitely stay again and recommend to anyone stopping in Surabaya. Thank you, Da Rifi.

Close to the Airport, nice neighborhood”
Good location, since we were looking for something close to the airport. Owner of the house could speak fluent English, however, she wasn't present some of the time and the other staff could not understand us. Still, she helped us find an inexpensive ride to the airport. Rooms are OK, with fan and very much like other hostels. Bathrooms are OK, too, the rest of the house seems to be in renovation and is a little messy. Attention: Don't use the address given in Google Maps if you search for "Da Rifi Hostel" - Use the Street Address provided by agoda and search for that.

Feels right at home, has everything we need”
Our one night stay after going to Bromo was great. We only needed a place to rest before heading to Surabaya airport so the location is wonderful. The hostel provides all the essentials - wifi, towels, toiletries and breakfast included. There are plenty of mosquitoes here - though I think it's not unique to this hostel. Just wear long pants and/or put in plenty of repellent and you'll be alright. Best part is that the price is really affordable. If you are looking for hotel-style comfort, this is not the place for you, be prepared to pay more elsewhere too. But for a no-frills backpacker-style pit stop, it's perfect.

Treat you as a family member”
I just don't know the location is so isolated so i booked this hotel but seems i have do a right thing. The female owner, whow also is the only stuff,is so hospitable that always make a lot of snacks and share with the guest. All the materials were planted by herself in a little garden. So the food were fresh and organic and of course delicious. Free laundry, free coffee and bread, free medicines for mosquitoes, the owner really treat you as a member of her family. Knowing me wanted to go to the city central, she even bring me to her young neighbour and asked if he could send me to there with his motorbike. Fortunately, he was free the next day so it came true. Otherwise it may take me lot of time to get to the central because of there is rare public transpotarion near the hotel and even i got some,it will still take me a long time sicnce the traffic jam is such a general phenomenon in surabaya. Overall, except the location, i can give full marks to Da Rifill. Included the location, i still love to recommend to the one who want to spend only one night before go to the ariport, for it might be the nearest hostel of the ariport with a bargain price.

Simply Hostel”
I stayed at Da Rifi Hostel for one night, since I had arrived in Surabaya almost midnight. The location was near from the Juanda airport, to get there you can use airport taxi around IDR 50,000 (It supposed to be cheaper, since it is only about 5km from the airport) Anyway, it was not too easy to find the location but if you follow the map and little bit asking you will find the place with small signage number. Clean, no AC, basic indonesian breakfast, self service :) and the owner and the officer are kind. It is quite enough for backpackers to stay.

More like a homestay rather den a hostel”
Da Rifi Hostel/Homestay is situated in a residential area close to both the Juanda International airport and Purabaya Bus Terminal. Taxi Ride from either place to the hostel cost 50k or less, so beware for those taxi drivers that may overcharge or going rounds in metered taxi. First impression of the place is not good, as it is low season and I arrived there late in the day around 4pm but my room and bed is not even prepared and ready for the arrival of new guest. The place is also abit untidy and things are lying everywhere. Pros: 1) Close proximity to airport and bus terminal, easy to move on to other places of Java. 2) Plenty of beds and rooms. 3) Hot showers is available. 4) Friendly Host 5) Nearest Minimart is just 5 mins walk away. 6) Free Wifi Cons: 1) Secluded Area, may be hard to find 2) A lot of mosquitoes 3) Windows are not sealed and water can be seen splashing in during heavy rain. 4) Not as clean as I expected. 5) House can be abit untidy and dirty. Overall, its a cheap but average stay, its good if you are just looking for a bed for a night or 2 to serve as a transit point for other areas in east Java.

Friendly staff , Perfect location”
Nevertheless Surabaya city is not a tourist spot. But the friendly owner Miss Dyana may help us as much as she can , give us useful directions , treat us like a family member. You will feel like staying in home, sweet home. The location is nearby the airport so its easy to reach there, if any question you may ask the owner or the staff, they will show you the way to solve it.

House turned into hostel”
The owner is a wonderful person always smiling and full of information for the traveller to explore Surabaya and Malang.I would like to suggest that she should turn her spacious front yard into a sitting area for relaxation and comfort. Otherwise I am happy to stay at her place and would surely come back again.

Excellent”
Diana the hostel owner is a wonderful and helpful lady. She provides tour information, travelling tips. free laundry, towel and (delicious) breakfast. The location is a little far from the center of the city but it's in a beautiful neighborhood which is nice for a walk. Highly recommend!

Nice and considerate owner”
I booked two nights stay at this hostel but then I did not manage to get the train ticket to Surabaya on the first day so I asked for a free motorcycle transfer from the hostel to the airport as a replacement for the one night that I cancelled. was very kind and considerate to agree to my request. Thanks so much, I really appreciate!

Laid back hostel close to the airport”
This hostel is really close to the airport but a little far from most things in Surabaya. It's one of the few places that offer a dorm to stay in. They offer a decent breakfast of fried noodles, toast, coffee, and tea. The owner is nice and helpful.

Super-friendly family homestay.”
We had some difficulty getting a taxi to find this place, as with most of Indonesia, when we asked the taxi driver if he knew where it was, he gave us the default answer (yes - meaning 'I don't understand'). It was definitely worth it when we got there and the staff were ready for us, waiting to invite us in and offer us a drink. We were shown into a dorm which we could have to ourselves, but they moved us to a room upstairs after we asked to be put into a smaller room. They just aqcuiesced with a smile. The staff will do all they can to help and we sat and watched a dvd on their TV in the evening. Breakfast is toast, as most Western visitors don't like to eat rice or noodles for breakfast, but we requested a normal Indonesian breakfast and were treated to an absolute feast when we awoke. The location is perfect for the airport but not so great for city sightseeing. I would highly recommend this place to anyone.

A warm and cosy guest house”
I arrived there at almost 10.30pm. A nice lady showed me my room. I could choose any room/bed on the second floor as no one else was there. Of course I chose the room with a queen sized bed. Although there were some mosquitoes in the room, the wall fan helped to keep them from going near me. There was a portable air-conditioner too but it was making a rattling noise when turned on. I woke up early in the morning hearing some noises from the food peddlers outside but it was ok. There is an open-air bathroom on the third floor but I didn't try it. Apart from bread and french toast, they also serve nice, hot breakfast such as fried noodles and omelette in the morning.

Great location”
I was on a business trip. The hotel was available and near to the location that i want. My trip wasn't that long. It is a fair hotel price. The room was OK, hot water available, clean towels available, and breakfast available.

Friendly welcome & nice extras but bed not great”
This place is near the airport and they can help organise lots of things including pick up. The woman who runs the place was very friendly, chatty and helpful while offering lots of stuff like tea and biscuits and the chance to order food in from the local restaurants (you aren't really in a tourist area here, although you could argue that is true of Surabaya in general and it didn't bother me..) The downside with the place is that first of all it is infested with mosquitos, they provide cream which is fairly effective but I still got bitten a bit. Also, the beds are really not comfortable and I woke up very early because the large window in my room did not really have a curtain and let in a lot of light early morning. I wouldn't have wanted to stay longer than one night for that reason.
