Lovely house with interesting facts about General Cheng Ho and Masjid Kampung Kling”
I booked Da Som Inn last minute with 1 night stay. I checked in quite late. However I met one Uncle. He is very knowledgeable about local history and shared a lot of interesting story with me. I did not expect that General Cheng Ho is a muslim and visited Cheng Ho Cultural Museum to find out more. I also visited Masjid Kampung Kling just opposite Da Som Inn. The mosque is unique with Chinese, Malay and Sumatera design . The location is very strategic with walking distance to a lot of tourist spot. I like the house too. Although it is very long, but it has some design which let the sun 'shine' / lighting. In order to preserve the house they can not do a lot of alternation. This may explain why the toilet are shared. They also ask whether are you a vegetarian before they prepare the breakfast. They also serve unlimited coffee and toast. Thank you Da Som Inn.
So far the best budget and strategic location htel”
Good: 1. Breakfast: Their American breakfast and local fried beehoon is yet so far the that I have taken, the standard can compare to those restaurant standards. 2. Location: The location of the hotel is over strategic just located behind the Jonker street, I have travel to Malacca for countless time and countless hotel i have been stayed, this is so far the best location that i have ever stayed. 3. Staff: Staffs are extremely kind and helpful. Bad: 1. Hygienic: Four of us stayed in the family room. There are four bath towels, each with smell, I don't think it was the detergent smell, so do my fellow friends felt. Asked to change the towels but ends up another weird smell on it. To be honest, this is also one of the most disgusting bath towel that we have use among all.
Spacious, clean, superb location”
We stayed with Da Som for 3 nights, and was allocated Room 6. Noise level: We read about the morning mosque prayer, Room 6 is the second last room on the level two, and we could not hear the morning prayers at all. Wifi: Wifi signal is weak, but lying at the foot of the bed seems to help. And standing up helps too. Don't ask me why. Wifi still functional though, if slow. Cleanliness: Bathroom is so clean, even the plug chain is spotless. The sheets feel freshly laundered too. Provided in the room: two towels, a small square of soap and two packets of shampoo. Definitely bring your own toiletries. I didn't expect otherwise, and no issue with that for the price of the room. Location: Just one street behind Jonker Street, perfect location of 3 min walk from Jonker. Perfect proximity to Jalan Hang Jebat, Tun Tan Cheng Lock, no lack of food, provision shops, little knickknacks and things to explore. Jonker is really alive only on the weekend, week nights are quiet, though there are still dinner places to be had. Da Som is also right next to the famous dim sum place selling the famous big pau and lotus leaf rice.
Comfortable, central and clean”
We booked a double but were given a twin which didn't bother us too much. The room had an AC and a fan, as well as fridge (not stocked). The shower was not separate from the toilet so you take a shower in what feels like the bathroom floor, however you get used to it very quickly, minus a few stray splashes. The room we were in was on the first floor and was quite warm, however the AC worked fine. You will hear morning prayers as the hotel is on "Harmony Street" and positioned right opposite the mosque. It wasn't an issue for us as we were tired each night and headed to bed early, so the wake up call was fine with us. This hotel is in a fantastic location for exploring the area. Try to get a map before your arrival (or research the area online) as there are a lot of hidden gems! There are a couple of modern shopping centres with good deals on clothes, however the best part of Melaka is walking around the old town. Our hosts provided us with wireless internet access and recommended eateries. We caught a taxi from the bus station to the hotel for 15 RM Ringitt.
The owner greeted us when we arrived and even entertained my husband to coffee and great chat, while the rest of us headed up to the room to rest. VERY EXCELLENT SERVICE !! Always friendly and ready to help at any time. The room is clean and bed is so comfortable. This would be our destination again on our next holiday in Jonker Walk. Keep it up Da Som Inn !!
Location: Very accessible to Jonker Street. Just a couple of minutes walk away. Stay there on Fri - Sun. Thus, we visit Jonker everynight. Value for money: Location is good, price is reasonably cheap and cleanliness if alright. What else can be a better deal ? It is definitely value for money. Staff: Able to recommend good restaurant with tasty food to dine in, helping us call for GrabTaxi. Facilities: There is a common area on ground level that provide free flow of drinks like coffee, tea or chocolate drinks 24/7. Cleanliness: This is a old vintage building in those peranakan days. Building is abit old but still comfortable. Pillow is abit too thick. Room is very simple but without soap.
i was looking for a place to stay with my family consisting of my wife, two kids, their godpa & my helper. as we did not want to walk so far, but wanted to see the sights at jonker street during our short weekend trip, we found da som inn to be the perfect place for us. to start off, the rooms are spacious & clean. nothing too fanciful, but definately well maintain & not dilapidated like some other hotels which we have stayed at in melaka. the location of the hotel was also fantastic as we were at the heart of jonker street. i strongly recommend this hotel should you need a ight or two for a short trip to melaka.
Da Som Inn”
This hotel is located in the historic area of Malacca. We had a 2 night booking at the Da Som Inn which we extended by one night as we did like the hotel and also the easy going atmosphere of Malacca. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The room was clean and large with refridgerator and we had three nights good sleep. This hotel does not provide food, but this is no problem as it can be found a few steps away in the many food outlets nearby.
Great hotel, awesome staff, perfect location”
This place was great. You couldn’t ask for a better location. Right on harmony street and next to Jonker. Lots of great food and shopping nearby. The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful. Probably the best service we’ve had in our travels. The room was large and clean and the washroom/shower were above average. (And there’s a cappuccino machine that’s free to use all day long) I highly recommend you stay here while visiting Melaka.
Good location with great quietness”
Da Som Inn enjoys the proximity to Jonker Walk and countryside quietness at the same time. Extremely convenient. We always returned to the inn to take some rest or when our bags were becoming full. Staff members were friendly and helpful. Once we bought two durians from the market and the man with a pony tail actively helped with packing the durians up into my luggage :D He also told us where we could get a taxi to Sentral with patience. Wifi connection was very good. The room was a little bit simple with one or two small bugs but it was no big deal. The electric water heater meant we had to wait a few minutes before taking a warm shower. The boss of the inn is Korean and there was a little Korean restaurant on the ground floor, but we were a little bit disappointed that it was never open. As a budget hotel Da Som Inn was more than OK and we would definitely make a return if we visit Melaka again.
I will be back”
this is my second visit to the da som inn. i like the loction of the inn in the historical part of malacca. the da som in has large rooms with comfortable beds. just opposit the hotel you find a mosque calling prayers in the evening and morning. just a few meters down the road from the mosque is a hindu temple and a bit further again a chinese temple ; a real display of religious tolerance in malaysia. the staff is friendly and one feels comfortable and relaxed at this place. i can recommend the da som inn to any traveller.
It's difficult to drive around Jonker street due to the jam. Therefore, we prefer to park our car somewhere else and stay near to the Jonker. Da Som inn is the best location that I have to say. Just 2 min walk and i can reach the Jonker street. Suitable for elderly and children. Value for money. The staffs are friendly and helpful. Keep it up!
Great Location , Clean and spotless Room”
Nice location, nearby to the heart of Jonker Street. Took a RM1 Panorama Bus / Bus 17 from Melaka Sentral ( Coach / Bus interchange ) , alighted at the Christ Church stop, and a 10 mins walk to this Inn. Along the way alot of gift shops and eatery There is a Chinese Dim Sum (Cantonese pastry, breakfast ) 2 shops away. The only drawback is, this Inn faced the Muslim Mosque, and there are the 5 times daily prayers. Some may be put off by the noise at 5am , other timing for prayers, not affected.
Really really perfect We are backpacker and we never still in a same place as long as we stay in this hotel Staff amazing Breakfast included, they preapared a little buffet really nice Coffee tea free 24 hours and qualitie Bedroom super clean We took the share bathroom that we shared only with one bedroom very very clean as well And lot of informations (maps and book about malacca ) and nice place around Lots of local people came take a coffe the morning you can exchange with them about the culture tradition Malaysian Honestly everything perfect for a price really reasonable !! We loved Thank you for everything Elisa Simone
Very Close To Jonker Street”
Overall had a pretty good stay at Da Som Inn. Conveniently close to Jonker Street. It's clean, airy and the people working there are friendly. Also within walking distance to most attractions near and around Jonker. The Inn is located right opposite a mosque so if you don't want to be woken by the morning prayer perhaps can request for a room in the back. The lighting in the room can be improve coz I feel it's a bit dimmed. Otherwise no complaints
Nice & clean, but light sleeper take note...”
Da Som Inn is operated by Koreans.. Just behind Jonker Street. Since everyone has mentioned the cleanliness and location of the Inn, I will not go further. One thing I wanna highlight is that it is located right in front of a Mosque. If you are a light sleeper, i suggest you to request for a room at the back of the Inn, which is more quiet. Because they usually broadcast their prayers very early in the morning that may disturb your sleep. However, if you are a internet person... the wifi will be weaker at the back... I stayed at the second storey and right at the back of the Inn. Room 7. I need to come out of my room and connect to the wifi due to weak frequency. Else, everything is up to our standard of comfort. Last but not least, the Chinese Resturant next to the hotel serves good morning tim sum.
Great location and friendly owner”
the location of this guesthouse is unbeatable. it's a stone's throw from jonker street, but separated by a row of buildings so it's calm and quiet, even on weekend nights. the rooms are large and comfortable for two people. very clean and tidily kept too. only quibble is the bright pink/red bedsheets, which i found kind of glaring on the eye. owner of this place is wonderfully friendly and polite. very patient in giving directions and information about the place too. would definitely go back to this guest house for short trips in melaka.
A night stay was superb. The hotel located in the heritage spots itself. opposite to the temple sreets.., just a block away from jonker walk and others heritage site.
Lovely customer service and big comfy room”
Staff in Da Som Inn is very helpful and sweet. They answered all my questions and showed me lots of places to visit
Great place to stay”
Nice hotel, located beside Jonker Street, without the hassle and noise of Jonker Street. Booked 2 rooms, both v spacious, and come with bathroom. One room is deluxe double on first floor. Quiet and beside a small courtyard. The second room is deluxe triple, located on 2nd floor. It is along the road, opposite the mosque. Be prepared to be woken up early in the morning by prayers, otherwise ask for rooms away from the road. Will definitely book this hotel if I am back in Malacca again.
