me and my wife arrived quite late and despite that fact the owners daughter (forgot her name) that received us made us feel very welcome and ordered food for us and called the restaurant several times cause they were late with the order. Very friendly people running this guesthouse.

    Superb homestay with great host”

Helpful host, convenient/quiet location, local flavour, near the beach

We are very grateful and lucky to have found such a great host and home-stay. Dhammika was particularly helpful when we had a crisis with our visas for India. Our room turned out to be a large suite (albeit sparsely furnished), including kitchen and a large drawing room. Rooms are well maintained and fairly clean. The price is unbeatable in Sri Lanka, at least in our 1 week experience. We enjoyed our stay and definitely will recommend the place.

    Warm welcome”

    The owner

Although the room is rather bare, it is clean and more than adequate for a short stay. The owner more than makes up for any shortcomings, in any case. His welcome was lovely, he was always on hand to give advice and ideas and he made a lovely breakfast each morning with copious cups of tea and slices of toast. I would recommend Dammika to those who want a genuine Sri Lankan welcome and a stay in a house rather than a hotel.

Good value for money and wonderful host”

Excellent option for budget travelers, good value for money, easy to find if you have Google Maps and only a few minutes walk from the very nice beach and restaurants. The host, Dammika, was really wonderful and good to talk to, very hospitable over breakfast and saved me a lot of money but showing me which buses to take! Highly recommended.

Apart from the owner and breakfast which was average;the bathroom was filthy and there was no hot water. At first I thought it was old but then I took a piece of tissue and wiped the tile clean. I cancelled my second night.

    Excellent Homestay”

    Staff, Location, Breakfast

It truly felt like we were at home. Mr Dammika treated us very well & was very helpful. The location is just a few minutes walk to the beach. 5 minutes walk to the street & all the restaurants & convenience stores are right there. Also, buses if you need to take public transport. The best part of our stay had to be the breakfast. It was a feast! He cooks very well & we were so appreciative. The wifi worked well also. Overall, we're very happy with our stay & would highly recommend.

Dammika himself is the best feature.

At first glance, I wanted to stay somewhere else. But please give this place a chance. Stay one night and make up your mind then. It's only a 5 minute walk from the beach and a 10 minute walk up to the shops and restaurants. I had a lovely 2 hours just sitting on the veranda watching the chipmunks, birds I'd never seen before and lizards on the trees. It was so relaxing - which is what I wanted.

    A host unlike any other”

Dammika is always happy to help & go the extra mile

We booked for one night and ended up staying for 3. Dammika is the perfect host with many interesting stories & speaks numerous languages. If you are looking for the real Sri Lankan experience look no further. This cheap and cheerful place is clean & tidy with the beach a 2 minute walk away & shops the same distance in the opposite direction. I would recommend booking in advance as with only 5 rooms at the moment it gets full quickly with many people staying on to enjoy Dammika's company. We will definitely be returning.

The best possible start to Sri Lanka”

Value for money, breakfast included, social atmosphere, good location

Dammika Home was the first stop on our (my girlfriend and I) year-long world tour and we couldn't be happier with our stay here. Colombo is a very busy city but Dammika's is set back from the main drag of Galle Road where it's nice and quiet. It's a short, cheap bus ride to what appears to be the main hub in the area (Bambalapitiya), and don't let the fact that you have to take a bus put you off; everything along Galle Road is about the same density so you're not going to gain much by staying in Bambalapitiya, in fact if anything it's too busy there. Dammika's is a 5 minute walk down to the beach where there are little bamboo restaurants and bars, although they weren't really firing during my visit (July, the off-season). The guest house itself is clean (what you'd expect for the price), our room had air con and a shared bathroom (he was building new rooms with an ensuite while we were there which are probably done by now), has a lounge room and a front porch for socialising. Dammika himself is an amazing guy. Very friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. I think this is the perfect place to start your Sri Lankan adventure. If you're interested to know about Dammika I wrote about him on my personal blog at http://anexistentialcrisis.com/dam-the-man/

The most welcoming place we have ever stayed!”

Dammika was so helpful and friendly that we didn't want to leave!

Really enjoyed our stay here. The food was lovely and the company even more enjoyable. Dammika helped us arrange ongoing transport, gave us tips on where to go around town and his wife cooked for us numerous times plus he offered us the usual breakfast or a traditional Sri Lankan breakfast which was yummy! Dammika will help in any way he can so you make the most of your time. He also offers a really cheap airport transfer.

Simple, comfortable guest house, great location'.”

The location of the guest house was ideal. It was quiet, near the beach and within easy access to the city. Dammika himself was a wonderful host

we stayed at dammika’s guest house for 3 nights and it was an excellent choice. it is less than a 5 minute walk to the beach and easy (and very cheap) access by either bus or train to colombo centre (only 35 rupees each on the train and slightly more on the bus) our room, although basic and rather dark inside, was large, air conditioned and comfortable. our attached bathroom was clean and everything worked except there was no hot water in the shower. since it was very hot in colombo, this was not an issue for us. dammika himself was a wonderful host. he was interesting, helpful and gave us information that proved to be invaluable. he also provided us with a delicious freshly cooked and hearty breakfast each morning at whatever time we wanted. for all these reasons we highly recommend dammika’s and we would stay there again if we ever have the good fortune to return to colombo.

    Friendly guesthouse”

    Hospitality of dammika, owner

Although the guesthouse is very basic, and could be a little cleaner I would highly recommend to stay here because of the lovely, interesting and helpful owner. It is more like you are a visitor in his home and he is very welcoming. It was a very nice way to end our stay in Sri Lanka. The location is convenient too, with regular buses to Colombo (short 30 min ride) and the price of the guesthouse is great compared to all else we could fine.

    Great location, great host ”

Very friendly and helpful host, wi-fi, quiet environment, close to the beach and main street with restaurants

After I arrived in Sri Lanka I stayed at Dammika Home. The host is very friendly and is willing to help you with everything and able to answer all your questions. The location in Mount Lovinia is good if you just want to relax on the beach (the beach is not good for swimming or sun bathing) and stay in a quiet environment. There are many nice restaurants serving sea food on the beach. The main street with many restaurants, shops, and a couple of supermarkets is within walking distance. The breakfast and especially the sauce served is great. Buses or 3-wheelers can be used to go to Colombo city centre.

Dammika Home is like visiting an old friend.”

    Quiet and economic

This home stay is just what I needed after a sleepless night traveling to Sri Lanka and navigating the mine field of touts and tuk tuk drivers on arrival. Its was nice to be out of the centre in a quiet neighborhood and close to the beach. The house is around half an hour by train and then a short taxi ride from the Fort Station in Colombo. recommendations and advice.
