    Refurbishment impact”
    Staff, room and food
    I arrived at the hotel at 7.30pm but didn't get to my room until 8.20pm - the refurbishment was blamed on the delay as the reception desk had been mover. There were problems in locating my booking initially then there appeared to problemsin locating a key. Once I got to my room I was very happy with it, the bed was comfortable and the room was inviting. The bath taps needed a bit of work as they were loose as was the shower attachment. I went to the bar for dinner, which was lovely. The service was great, attentive but not overly so. I took my coffee outside and immedietly the heaters and lights were stitched on by staff, a nice touch. Unfortunately I had to leave at 4.30am and didn't have time to have breakfast. I would like to return once the refurb has been completed. The grounds are beautiful.

    very poor service from hotel management ”

    i drove nearly 500 miles to the hotel leaving at 06.00 and arrived at 14.00. i was meeting friends prior to going on a cruise the following day at 18.00 for a birthday dinner. however when i checked into my room there was no heating so i contacted reception to advise them of this and they informed me that they would get back to me. after one hour i contacted reception again to say that nothing had been done to resolve the problem with the heating. the receptionist advised me that she had tried to phone the room which was obviously a lie as the phone certainly did not ring. the receptionist advised me that they had no maintenance staff working on a sunday. she said that she would speak with the duty manager to advise her of the problem and she would get back to me asap. after a further 30 minutes i still had not heard back from the receptionist so i went down to the reception and after a further 30 minutes i eventually got to see the duty manager who said she would upgrade me to a suite. i moved in only to find there was no heating in that room either. after a further 30 minutes the duty manager brought an electric heater to the room which barely heated the room. at that stage i asked to speak with the general manager to be advised that he wasn't available. therefore i asked that he called me when he was available.this never happened even after asking a further 2 times. when i left the next day i gave the receptionist a letter for the general manager and at this date 2 weeks later i still have not had the courtesy of a reply. due to all the upheaval of being in rooms without heating which took 3 hours to resolve i was unable to go to the birthday dinner with my friends as i was too tired. but the thing that made me really upset was the lack of response from the general manager.

    Disappointed”
    cheap, good location, clean
    The hotel is run down but clean enough. The most disappointing thing for me was that although they had advertised Wifi in all rooms my room was at the far end of the hotel and the Wifi signal didn't reach that far. When I asked about it at reception the young man did try to move me but unfortunately the hotel was fully booked. He was apologetic but could only suggest I sit in the bar. As a woman alone in the evening I didn't feel that was ideal.
