Wonderful Stay”
We loved staying here. The rooms were clean. They each had a toilet (no shower). The baths were great. I went a couple of times and never shared with anyone. The breakfast was awesome. I’ve never had such a great meal from a hotel. The location is incredible. I wish we could have stayed longer.
Oozing ambience and history ”
If you are looking for traditional service and a Japanese Inn full of history and ambience look no further than Ryokan Tsurugata. Built 260 years ago but with modern amenities, the inn is delightful. The traditional breakfast and dinner were excellent The inn is located on the canal in the heart of the old town area just a few minutes to the Ohara art gallery. English is spoken if you need it. If you get a chance, ask to see the large dining area upstairs. Look up to see the amazingly huge timbers that were used in its construction. We certainly could have stayed longer in this delightful inn.
Amazing anniversary stay”
Our 20th wedding anniversary was made extra special due to the efforts of manager, Mr Kumamoto and the wonderful staff of Tsurugata. He made an extra effort to show us the historical significance and features of the ryokan which made the stay all the more memorable. The ryokan’s location is unbeatable at the centre of the Bikan historical quarter and facing the canal. This was our second stay and we will be back to this special venue.
Lovely ryokan ”
Typical ryokan size tatami room which the staff makeup, beautiful setting, exceptional staff, outstanding breakfast, perfect location on the canal, walking distance to everything. Staff arranged for a taxi to the port the next morning which was a lifesaver, getting us on time for the trip to Naoshima.
Bit dated”
This is my first time in ryokan in a long while so don't have much experience to compare with. Tsurugata seems a bit dated despite consideration of its 300 year of history. Kaiseki dinner is decent.
